Message: P.S. I went to view the images of the bat mobile and the one I saw didn't have any red coloring on it. It was all black and these huge wings on each side and the front of the car also huge almost design like a corvette. Perhaps I didn't get to see an original after all. LOL
There have been dozens if not hundreds of Batmobiles built by many different people, but George Barris had sold his last year, as I recall, for something like 4 to 6 million at a Barrett Jackson auction.

Message: I just saw the bat mobile in Escondido about a week ago; I couldn't believe my eyes what an awesome car. It was getting onto San Pasqual valley road from a private drive way in Escondido. I drove right in front of it. I wondered why it was in Escondido. Perhaps the owner lived in Escondido? Anyways I had the pleasure of seeing it in person. I drove very slowly so that I could get a good look at it. LOL
Great movie car for sure.

Message: Stephanie, you have made some valid points. The more affluent areas and their high schools have to some extent lost interest in football state wide. This is according to CIF and their research. I have been a baseball coach at Fountain Valley High School here in Orange County, the school has over 3500 students, the Varsity football team is down to 30+ players and the interest and attendance of the student body at the games is down. Two years ago FV, in the Sunset League, was in the BIG FIVE Conference. Due to the won/loss records and student participation, the Sunset League was dropped down to the next level. The demographics show this. Parents advocate their children today to prefer non contact sports, with less verbal instruction and injuries. New sports such as ice and roller hockey, although contact sports, along with lacrosse, and Ultimate are growing in popularity. There is a big rise in lacrosse, both in popularity and in participation throughout the state. Football is still popular in the inner cities and small towns. It is a social gathering place for the communities and still carries the prestige and a way out for some! The CIF is doing its best to keep football interesting, safer, and popular in the more affluent areas, but changes in the populations, the mind set, and the interests of the students are not helping the cause very well. The injury factor in football is high priority, and the long term effects that follow also lead to a lack of participation. I hope HHS remains competitive and continues to produce excellent student athletes who go on to bigger and better arenas.

Message: Yesterday I wrote response to Gary about Pen High and football and the Cougartown system would not let me send it and I did not think of copying it to save it..John has fixed that tech snag so the least I can do is try again..... .Poly is large now I think I remember reaching over 4000 but Pen is reaching around 2000 and there are many, many schools in LA County closer to Poly than Pen: Huntington Park, Bell, Fremont, El Camino Real, Banning lots more around 3000 in 2015 Pen high ranks 683 below the top in the states a few years back. So Pen is not a large school. It is not a small school either. It is a school that parents like because of its high academic ratings. And up here students can pick which of the 3 high schools they want to attend. Academics and sports programs are important. (You need it all to get into the universities.....) I know really nothing about football except that perhaps it is not the fav sport on the hill. Maybe not with parents either. Does MIT or Cal Tech have teams? I do know that cancelling the program was much discussed by the public up here. As a parent we want to protect our children from permanent injury. And we want our children to be fit and enjoy sports. Kids get hurt. Doing what they love. I have to assume the coach made his decision with the health of the students in mind. He probably knows their conditions well enough to know what to do. That is part of his job. Certainly he has given all of us, as well as the students, something to consider.
Good points Stephanie, and glad you got through.

Message: Congrats to the Mighty Cougars! As for Peninsula HS. There might be some apathy but my guess is the demographics of "the hill". Affluence has nothing to do with lack of participation. That would be saying middle class parents are not really concerned about their child's welfare. I remember years ago when San Marino HS dropped football. It simply made no sense to lace up 40 Al Jardine size kids to compete in a sport they had never played before. Soccer and LaCrosse was fine. Head injury is a deterrent but Demographics trumps everything else.

Message: John, Thanks for the score!!! Roll On You Cougars... Congrats and keep it going. My junior ('71) year we lost our first four games and then won five to go undefeated in Ocean League. Gary, It is a sign of the times for the kids on the hill. Their moms want them to be safe and not get hurt. Especially when they have to drive down to the Centinela Valley and play Hawthorne, Leuzinger, and Lawndale. (LOL) Football is fading in the Upper Class Neighborhoods throughout California,(CIF report June 2015) where as soccer and lacrosse are fast becoming the sports of choice. The same thing is happening in Orange County, schools are dropping their football programs because of the injury effect in favor of lacrosse. Stay tuned.

Message: The HHS football program might not be in great shape but consider this. Peninsula HS in Rolling Hills has cancelled the balance of their season due to lack of players and low attendence. I think PHS is the second largest school in the LA area next to Long Beach Poly and obviously one of the richest. I think its a sign of the Apocalypse.

Message: For those of you who have an Ancestry.com subscriptions, there are a few El Molino yearbooks available online. The ones I see are those from 1960, 1962, 1963, 1986, 1987 and 1988 and one from Richard Henry Dana for 1978. If you are interested, they are certainly less expensive than buying one from ClassMates.com. Some are indexed and they are searchable. From the main search screen click on Ancestry Card Catalog near the bottom on the right side and click on the link. Type in yearbooks in the Keyword box and click Search. Click on U.S., Yearbooks, 1880 -2012 at the top right. You can search with a first name or initial, last name and hawthorne, california in the School. This should provide most of the indexed names and keywords. You can also page thru by using the < and > arrows once on a page.

Message: Cougar sighting. Met Natalie Comacho HHS'14 Sunday night at 24 hour fitness on Rosecrans. Nice young lady who was a cheerleader and played soccer at HHS. She agreed that the cheerleaders are more "cheer performers" rather than cheerleaders involving the fans. She said no one is interested in going to the football games because they have not had a winning season in her lifetime. To top it off, her senior year she preferred to attend Venice Highs homecoming rather than HHS because Venice had fireworks, an exciting band and lots of excited alumnae!! Hey big John that's 2487 sightings, where's my cubie doll?
Geez Clark I wish you had reported that Hawthorne beat Beverly Hills on Homecoming night on Friday and beat Santa Monica the week before. As a member of the coaching staff at Hawthorne High I'd think you'd be a little more positive about the school and the programs. Just my 2 cents.
