Message: Well, Happy day after Thanksgiving. Had dinner with Miss Kathy Brooks, Rowdy Harry Plotkin, Butch and Daisy and John Baker and his Ma. I was so thankful that Ma Baker was in a good humor and complimented me by saying, "I'm delighted to see that you don't look as old old old as you did in your picture." (what pic was that Sidney!!) Anyway, she and I have plans for her to be at my house next Thanksgiving so that she can teach me how to make a turkey. She'll have all day to shoot me down and I'll have all day to open all the wine in the house. Thank you all for a beautiful dinner and a great night and 364 days will fly by fast and we'll do it again.
She can't teach you how to MAKE a turkey, can she? It was that picture where you are sitting on a boulder. I think she mistook you for the rock. Thanks to all who were there for the Turkey feast. Mom and I had a fun night, as always, with our special friends.

Message: Thanksgiving Eve, The Santa Claus Lane Parade on Hollywood Blvd. Many local celebrities and current TV stars were always a part of the parade. Mr. Nelson caught me ditching classes a few times. Three times the after school make up time was dust mopping the floors in the messy band room and lining up chairs and music stands. Don't beat the base drum was Mr. Morgans only rule. No matter how fast you completed the task, he kept you the full 45 minutes. In four years that was the only interaction I had with Mr. Morgan, but he always remembered my name. Thanks for posting that part of El Molino history.
Mr. Morgan: Loved by many, hated by many. Thanks Carl

Message: For anyone who was enrolled with the Target store school contribution program, I was just notified that the program is ending 5/14/2016. The site shows that there were 63 persons participating, and the contributions in their names totaled $15,798.39, with another $275.71 set to drop shortly. I'm sure the school was putting these funds to good use, and on their behalf, I'd like to thank those that were involved.
Great news Alan, thanks for the information. I had forgotten about that program.

Message: To Carl Rilling Well Carl, I heard that this loud girl is spending life in prison for murder. Seems she didn't like what some over sensitive cowboy said about her and she flogged him senseless with his own horse reins and then strangled him with her brazier. As for Colleen, she was an accomplice and is only doing 40 years. Ahhh... the good days.

Message: I talked to Eddie Williams, HHS '59. He does not do computers. I had mentioned it was the Trott twins birthday on the 18th. Eddie had dated their sister Francis. He recalled what a pesty pair these were. Eddie added "remember that neighbor girl that was there a lot, always loud". He added what an obnoxious loud bunch of girls always hanging around. Co was more quiet than the other two. I did mention that I thought the loud one was still around and had not changed. Happy birthday Mo and Co, daughters of Frank and Charlene.
Thanks Carl and hard to believe Coco was more quiet

Message: On rare occasions I still visit Rasputin's Records out of Berkeley, famous here in the Bay Area, but the staff affects a give-me-your- money-and-get-out attitude. Tower, Wherehouse and our own Melody Music were better experiences. Anyone who wishes to do the annual Great LA Walk should be at Clifton's, 648 S. Broadway LA, tomorrow at 9 a.m. to march 16 miles to the sea at the SM Pier!

Message: John, I miss The Licorice Pizza in Lawndale, Hawthorne Blvd and 163rd Street when it first opened up. The times I spent in there listening to music, reading the latest edition of Rolling Stone, buying albums and assorted goods, plus meeting all sorts of interesting people. KMET was the voice and sound of Southern California then and would do remote broadcasts from there on occasions. The Pizza had burlap bags on the walls, plus posters of all the artists, bands and concert events. The cantaloupe crates held the albums and one could buy these kits to have your own crate. In 1971 the albums went for $2.98 plus tax. Double LP's were $4.26 on up. I still have a cassette crate with the Licorice Pizza platter logo. "All those nights I spent inside the coliseum, dodging lions and wasting time"!!!

Message: "All Things Must Pass" is an interesting film analysis by Colin Hanks of the life and the death of Tower Records. The music of The Beach Boys is prominent at the start of the chain. For those of us who spent far too much time in record stores, and trying to park at Sunset and Horn, it's a worthwhile flashback.

Message: I was wondering if any classmates who attended in the late 60's knew a student by the name of Daniel Edward Faran from the class of 1968. I have a FB friend up in Fort Collins who lost his uncle, Dennis 'Mike" Skogerboe, in Vietnam on Aug. 24,1969. He died in battle that day with Daniel Faran. Scott Skogerboe has been searching for information on Daniel and his family for quite some time. Do any of you remember this young man or his sister Joette Faran (class of 66)? Any information would be helpful. Scott will be checking this page for information. Thank you!

Message: Just heard from Sean Ramey that the class of 70s Denise Laven passed away on November 11th. Her brother, John writes:
I'm sad to say that my sister, Denise, passed away today, November 11th. She had not been in the best of health for the last couple of years. I was fortunate enough to see her last month when I visited my Mom in California. She was my older sister and always the first one to do things. She was tough, sweet, a bitch and angel all at the same time. I thank her for sharing her life me and the many other friends and family she touched. I pray that she finds peace on the other side. I'll miss her.
Our sincerest condolences to you John, and all of Denise's family and friends

Message: Happy Birthday to my 16 year neighbor Susan Abraham. The sweetest thing to ever do an over the handle bars face plant on the Ramona Hill at 132nd. We still have pictures of the aftermath. Great recovery and Susan grew up to be one of the many 133 street beauties. On another note, I just spoke with Little Jimmy Schroeder who was trying to get his socks on (no easy feat, no pun intended) so he could depart the hospital and return to the comfortable confines of his palatial estate in beautiful Central Point. He was happy to report that after a minor tune-up and some hose replacements his motors idling with the precision of a Swiss watch. It's looking like Howie will be back in shape for the 2016 summer games, which for him will consist of Dominos and Parcheesi. Oh, and he's thinking about changing his email handle to something other than cheezwhiz. I suggested carrottop. Peace out, Hoody
Happy Birthday to Susan and glad to hear Jimmy's putting on his socks all by himself. Try a push up or two Jim, then you'll know you're healed.

Message: Checked in to see who is still active among 68 through 73 grad years. I was on football and wrestling teams and regular VB player at Marine Street in Manhatten Beach for several years. After graduation in 1970 I went to El Camino CC then accepted at UCLA and transferred to UCSB. Got degree there and more at San Diego State and University of Utah while working many part-time and temporary full-time jobs. Married and off to USAF then State Department for clinical psychology career that extended to nearly 30 years military and government service -- half in foreign countries. Now do consulting with small company. I would enjoy hearing from or about former friends and classmates. At Hawthorne I often hung out with Larry and Chris Ferguson. Loved entire time at Hawthorne and also had friends at Lawndale HS. Best wishes to all at Cougartown!
Hi Michael, You have been busy since graduation. Suggest you check the Alumni List for long lost HHS friends and thanks very much for letting your classmates know you are here. Message: Paco, Tops Records started in the late 40's and lasted until the early 60's. Most of their recordings weren't too good, but some of the doo wop vocal group songs were. The groups never got any credit though as just about all of the records listed the group as The Toppers. Used to get them in the 9c bin at Imperial Farms grocery store on Imperial and Prairie.
