Message: Cougar sighting of sorts, Just had the best day with Sharon Bierman Branigan and her mother Beverly. She called this morning to say she was in town (haven't seen Sharon for about 3 years). We met at Hawthorne Historical which she hadn't seen. Took a tour of Hawthorne High and other local sites and ended up at the Pizza Show. What a great day with one of the funniest Cougars to ever walk the halls of good old HHS. Thank you Sharon and Bev for a fun fun day. I miss you already.

Message: My only recollection of the Wilsons is that of Brian, I think, rocketing up and down Hawthorne Boulevard several mornings in late '63 in an electric-blue Stingray when I was walking to Intermediate. The whole family may have decamped to Beverly Hills after that year. My older sister's friend Cookie Ames dated Al Jardine for a time. Cookie's father was a fixture at the VFW for years. I've been wondering how the band stayed out of the draft in the 60s. As for "Jurassic World", it may be another triumph of special-effects over any sort of plot, and a pastiche of every other sci-fi/horror film we've seen. Ron Howard's daughter looks good, but her acting is dubious, and she runs around all the mayhem in heels that appear and disappear. As is often true, the animals do the best acting.

Message: I haven't decided to see Love & Mercy, but it saddens me to think that people who didn't know Brian will probably not take home with them the image that a few of us continue to carry in our hearts. I knew him only through close friends and a class we shared in high school. The Brian I knew is a complete stranger to me when represented in movies or in books. I am always left to wonder how often this happens in biographical cinema. A former friend wants to write a script about a teacher with whom I was very close, I knew him well and there are so many things that could be said but I don't believe need to be shared. It would make an interesting movie or book but at whose expense? Had to vent!

Message: Good Morning Cougars, Went and saw Love and Mercy again last evening. Same as the first time, I enjoyed the movie, it is done very well. If it were to be a Story of the Beach Boys and all their history, It would be called a Band of Brothers From Different Mothers and I would still be in the theater. I felt the movie touched on a number of issues without going into a lot of detail, keeping the main focus on Brian at a turning point in his life. Also the theater goers were all over 60, Beach Boy Loyalists, and most expected more music! Have a great day one and all!!!

Message: Just in case anyone is interested: Finals for seniors at HHS were all of last week, finals for underclassmen are all of this week ending tomorrow. Graduation is tomorrow afternoon on Halcap. Boy that brings back some good memories, grad night, looking forward to college and savoring all those good days at HHS!! I remember at my brother Ray's graduation in '71, class president Gary Shambaugh shook everybody's hand as they marched onto Halcap. I liked the idea so I got Doug Long(first semester class president) and myself(second semester class president) took opposite ends of the field and congratulated all the graduates. One young lady(who will go unnamed) saw my outstretched hand and decided that was not acceptable so she proceeded to tackle me. It was all just graduation fun and I dated her that whole summer and am still good friends with her today! Good memories!

Message: That is a great moment when Brian Wilson and Mike Love start composing "Good Vibrations." I forgot to mention a fine, magazine- style book, "Music Icons: The Beatles", by Harris Publishing, which is available in most drugstores. I read every word, and it describes each album and every song, with many surprises on who did what and how they composed their work. I never knew that the vocals were often three-part harmonies, for example.

Message: I just saw "Love and Mercy." I would have preferred more exposition on how the Wilsons became such knowledgeable musicians, and less family melodrama, but it's pretty good. All the actors are first- rate, and even the two-actor thing seems to work. The final segment begins outside the Fred Segal store on Melrose and it ends some twelve miles away at Kornblum and 119th. Much like the Liverpool neighborhoods of The Beatles, so much came out of such an ordinary place.

Message: Thanks Doris, "Good Old HHS" brought back a flood of memories for me this morning. Some good, some not so good. The good is, John's creation of CT, thank you for your time and dedication. The not so good is the inevitable, losing high school friends and classmates. One that comes to mind is Don Allen. We shared many years of good times together. Our goal was to retire, then head for the hills, sit around a campfire by a stream, and like old folks do, reminisce about the "Good Old Days". I miss that guy. I walked off the campus of HHS 57 years ago this month, ready to set the world on fire. The fire never materialized, but I did have the opportunity to strike a couple of matches. Oh, and thanks Doris for the reminder about CT dues.. John I'll be sending mine in another 57 years.. Just kidding.... Ray
