However, call us and we'll get your tickets in and give you our mailing address. I know, I know..it's sort of like the religious ministers on TV say, "We'll contact God and pray for you, but send your checks to my address." I'm on my honor. Merry Christmas.

Message: John, Happy Holidays to all. This is another fundraising idea I have; an Alumni football game. Below is a blurb from the website of the program that I am aware of and I know the father of the president of this organization: Alumni Football USA has put on over 1,000 games in 24 states in the past 29 years. We have helped raise over $770,000 for local communities around the country. Everyone has a great time revisiting yesteryear. We are proud to be a part of this phenomenon. All these guys are so happy they get one last chance on the field. I have had plenty of guys, after the game, in tears just for the opportunity. In May 2012 there were fathers playing with sons and nephews, a high school football coach playing despite a prosthetic leg, a 50 year old who lost 68 pounds to play, a 19 year old coached the winning team, and a soldier flew in from Afghanistan to play- and that was just one game.

Message: It's been about 7 years since I posted this, so I think it's time for a re-run for all our new members. Merry Christmas to John and all his pet Cougars.
Twas the night before Christmas and all through CT
Not a creature was stirring, except for JB.
The T-shirts were packed in their boxes with care
With all hope that Fed Ex would get them all there.
The Cougars were nestled all snug in their beds
While old Beach Boys lyrics sang loud in their heads.
With John in his sweater, the letterman kind,
He checked into Feedback for what he would find.
When what to his wondrous eyes should appear,
But dozens of entries from friends far and near.
Greetings from Cougars across this great land,
Old students from Football and Chorus and Band.
Cheerleaders, Swimmers, and Wrestlers they were,
The Surfers and Hodads and Cruisers were here.
All those bringing wishes for John and this site,
Brought tears to his eyes on this glorious night.
The Biermans and Sloeys and Greasbys abound,
And Paco, El Rojo and the rest were around.
Others may read and not post, I would think,
Except when Dan Johnson promotes "Which One's Pink".
And let's not forget the Valencia 7
Who's friendship makes John feel like he's in Heaven.
Now some other Schools just remember their past,
But what JB's done is really a blast.
While other alumni might just feel down,
John Baker has blessed us with this CougarTown.
So remember your family and close friends, this Yule,
But just as important, "Be True To Your School"

Message: Cougar Sighting: (sorta) Sunday: So there I was in the kitchen making dinner, rinsing my shrimp and patting my snapper dry..and in walks Eric Putnam to buy some tickets for the VFW raffle to be drawn on January 2. Since our last posting extending the ticket pulling date, we've come up with a few more hundred dollars. Good thing I got the money from Eric in my hands because since he's now seen me with no make up - my extra baggy white shorts in need of a leg waxing and ripped t-shirt, I'll have to kill him. And now JB, you can make that nasty comment you've been holding in through this reading... you know the one...about rinsing my shrimp and patting my snapper. Call me for your tickets before it's too late. (310) 891-2375

Message: To our Cougartown family....the VFW fundraiser for roof repairs has been extended until January 1, 2015. We tried to push this fundraiser through on a short notice and a short selling period and found that we did not give ourselves enough time to make this happen successfully. Please understand our dilemma and please continue to support our efforts. Thanks to those who have already purchased tickets....the phone number we posted (310-891-2375) has helped to bring in much needed funds. We'll post the winners name once the drawing takes place. Our flyer has been updated and you can access it by clicking the link on the banner at the top of Cougartown. Thank you again for your continued support of the Hawthorne Veterans of Foreign Wars.
