Message: Thanks, Mary Ann, but I won't be going to Vegas while out in CA. I prefer the roller coaster on Hawthorne Blvd. too. More my speed. My son is visiting here from Oregon and he and his kids went to Coney Island yesterday and rode the Cyclone. He recommended against it, not because it was scary, but because it is a real spine-breaker. I think my chiropractor would advise against that one. I hear the Matterhorn at Disneyland is really bouncy like that too. Never went on that--it always seemed to be closed for repairs when I was there.

I had no idea if I would wind up on the cutting room floor or what, but I am actually in the movie in 2 different scenes, in close- ups. I went to a special preview but it will open in NY and LA on Friday. Don't blink or you will miss me. :) (The name of the film is Love is Strange, BTW. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but the stars, John Lithgow and Alfred Molina, are truly amazing).

My grandmother was amazing tho when I went to Hawthorne Intermediate, the restaurant was just across the street and me and my friends would sneak out and eat there for lunch growing up, eating the burgers every day you don't realize the impact my family had on the community well thank you all for remembering

Message: Yesterday, August 13th I had the privilege of 'touring' the HHS campus with three other graduates and led for a short time by Principal Newell who took the time on a busy 'sign-up' day to open doors and show us the new buildings being prepared for next weeks starting of the school year once again. After the nice tour, we split up as the ladies were going to leave but, I stayed to look at a few more places, buildings and such. I met one of the coaches (Hughes) when near the gym and he mentioned a Home Game coming up on September 5th at 7 p.m. He said they need all the support they can get and he would like ALL of the graduates to come on down and support this first game with Lynwood as the visiting team. It'll be on HALCAP Field starting at 7 pm. Easy to access since the R/R Crossing path is now 30' wide!

Message: Did not graduate from HHS as we moved from the area and I finished at another school but do check in now and then to revisit mostly through the pictures of old hangouts and areas that are such a part of forming my life. Like most in my age group I am a grandmother and great grandmother--the rewards of going through being a parent. Have learned of the passing of people who were important to my early years--Phyllis Adams and her sister Diana were a blow to hear about. Phyllis was a neighbor and the daughter of a widowed mother-dad was a test pilot who died in the service--and her mother supported them as an RN in a time when that was an unusual circumstance. I was very touched by the tribute payed to the talented Phyllis and remember very well the pink chiffon evening gown she designed with the balloon skirt over satin roses she had made her self with the satin underdress which was way ahead of its time. She also created the room she wanted for a bedroom out of a shoe box and I remember the beautifully drawn horses rampant above the head of the bed in a gorgeous mural also much ahead of her time and age. Thanks for maintaining this site
