Message: In Hawthorne news this morning, the mayor and the city council will meet tonight to discuss the building of a casino in the city! A new life for the old mall? The new buildings at HHS seem to be near completion, all red and white. This city of Westminster is something like what Hawthorne was in summer in days gone by, and the current population makes it like being back in Southeast Asia at times.

Message: Wow, got a kick out of reading the CT page this morning. It's been almost a year now since I was lucky enough to retire. I'm looking forward to (being able now) a Frosty Freeze or a reunion night coming up. Reunion being a year away, Don Di could you keep me up to date hint hint, maybe I could help from here. Oh, and that was funny while Clark was stalking, that he was buying stockings, or boots. A hike in Santa Monica? Come on up here Clark if you want to go hiking and use those boots, we have mountains, rivers, and lots of wild life to enjoy! This morning in between reading the page I was watching the Elk in my front yard. There were four baby's just a month old running and playing. That was something I've looked forward to seeing since I moved up here. I asked my wife Deb, (class of 75 also) if she could just imagine seeing these on our lawns in Hawthorne. Someone would have called the cops if things almost the size of a horse were wandering on our lawns. Yet alone 20 0f them. Last week I had to chase off two black bears that were getting into my trash. Here's a shout out, anyone that went to HHS, is welcome to bring their RV to my hook up here 30 minutes east of the Seahawks, oops, (Seattle.) John, I'm looking forward to a Cougar sighting, except up here as a precaution you might want to be armed, respectfully. Oh and I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to the web site, is there a place or a Fosters Freeze night coming up this year, I'll just need a couple weeks notice. I'd love to see everyone at our young ages again. For everyone reading this, I'll turn the computer on more often and be shorter from now on.

Message: Seems quite a conversation has started about that pool. Bob Jensen sent me a photograph of he and brother Bill in the pool when they were filling for the first time. I call Deb and talked to her for the first time in 52 years. I sent Bob her contact information and possibly by now he has too. It's NASCAR weekend here in Sonoma and I don't plan on going anywhere but to the back deck for a glass of wine. There are 58 signed up for the c/o '64 50th reunion and more to come.

Message: Paco----- we thought you bit the dust. How about some new Paco's pics, last ones were from Xmas 2012. Reminder that the Haw VFW will have the firework stand on Haw. Blvd and El Segundo on the north east side of the street - in front of Albertson's. There is a surprise for everyone that mentions they went to HHS if you buy there. No, I won't tell you what it is, you have to spend money to find out. Also, our 1964 reunion is still in the works. Girlies, go get your tickets now and plan ahead because it takes us a whole lot longer now to look 17 again than it did 10 years ago. As for the guys, just shave and buff that head and don't give it a thought, we know a toupe' when we see one.

Message: In the mid-60s I was a member of the Hawthorne Youth Center Board (Canteen). We worked at the drop-in dances and the Friday night dances. We had moved out of the Gunga Din and into the new Memorial Center. Erling Halverson and Dean Stafford were the paid directors and some of the other paid parks and rec leaders were Lynn Brooks, Char Trefz, Kathy Lawrence. On the board were Ruel Callahan, the Voss sisters, Tom DeMary, Corky Fish and so many others that I can't possibly name. Many of us went on to work for Parks and Rec. We had many activities but one was the Friday Night Casey Kasem dances. He would bring along bands that were just starting out. I remember The Association being there once. It was a great money maker for both the Canteen and Casey Kasem but as I recall it brought in a lot of "outside" people and we had to have a large police contingency to keep things in order. I think because of that the partnership didn't last much over a year. Casey Kasem was a nice man who was small in stature but big in life. RIP Casey.
