Message: When I sailed off the coast of Redondo Beach and took dive boat trips to Catalina we would often see dozens of sharks, many Great Whites. They have always been there. The warm water from the effect of the El Nino is just bringing them closer to shore.

Message: Wow, doesn't seem like that long ago that we were hanging out after school on the steps of the old St. Joseph's church. Late 50's I guess. And who was I hanging out with? My good and long time friend, Mike Shay! My best to you on your b'day. Have a good one, amigo!
Happy Happy Birthday Mikey, seems like just a few years ago we were cruising the streets of Hawthorne and Inglewood together with the likes of Charlie Hunter and Harold Lanksbury. Remember the night when we were heading north on the Bl about 120th, you were driving your 57 Chevy and Harold reached over, turned the ignition off and tossed your keys out the window? Fun guy huh Have a great day, buddy.

Message: Hi, This is a long shot I am trying to find out who lived in 5148 West 131 Street, Hawthorne in September 1957. I have found an old letter with this address in Europe ...but no name on it. I have tried the city and the library but they don't know. Is there anyone who might know? I would very much appreciate your help Regards Mike
Good Luck Mike.

Message: Happy Birthday USA and Congratulations to the greatest American since Abraham Lincoln. Joey Chestnut won his 8th straight Nathan's Hotdog eating contest. 61 hotdogs in 10 minutes!!! There will be about 30 of us enjoying a BBQ at my brother Mike's (HHS '74) house today. Cougar count will be about 9 or 10. I don't think all of us combined will eat 61 hotdogs.
Hey Tom, Have a great 4th maaann!

Message: I just got a phone call from Gordon Bell. He said the big 4th of July event in Downieville is to roll out a three foot wide strip of bubble wrap down Main Street and have everyone do the happy dance. So much for small town celebrations when no one wants to burn down the town. My happiest Fourth remembrance is my dad launching tin cans in the street with some explosive device under them.
Sounds like a fun day in Hooterville for Gordon

Message: John, John, John. It's all about location, location, location. 120th and Freeman, though a lovely intersection, wouldn't be acceptable for a thriving lemonade stand. Fair amount of traffic, but a 4-way stop intersection would be preferable. Plus, that's fairly close to Frankie & Louis Dominick's house and they would likely want some "protection" money to make sure that your stand didn't burn down. And 49 cents would be a more attractive price than 50 cents. It's the psychology of selling. It (49) seems like a lot less, hence more sales. And a lot of people would be inclined to let you "keep the change" rather than dealing with a pesky penny. Better if you think this through John -- don't be too hasty with a start-up business. My consulting fee is 49 cents.
Sorry I lost the previous feedbacks in a hard drive crash on Tuesday morning. We were talking about Cougartown Tshirts and how we could get them for all who wanted them. Funny schtick there Jimbo and I do think I will drop the price of Ctown Tshirts from 21.50 to 21.49... It does sound and, in fact, is cheaper

Message: I keep hearing there will be an all-class picnic the day after the 50th 1964 class reunion, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the reunions page. It would really make it nice, because that turns it into a 3-day affair, with the Friday night get-together, the Saturday night reunion, and the Sunday picnic. There was even talk of going out dancing, maybe on the Thursday night, but I have heard no more on that. People like me who will be traveling should try to include as many of those days as possible, if they really are going to be having the "extra reunions".
Hi Pat, The all class picnic you are talking about will be the Cougartown picnic on the Sunday following your reunion. It will be at Recreation Park in El Segundo. The time is not yet set. Hope to see you there.

Message: Gosh, I'm not sure how to start this off. I was at lunch today at my golf club with a bunch of south bay guys. They were talking about a funeral they went to last week for a guy they all surfed with; named Toby. I understand coach Toby Erlinger passed away last week of a very aggressive stomach cancer. Coach was only at HHS for 3 years but he was brought in by coach Chauncey to change the culture at HHS along with coach Semon and some others. Because he was only there for a few years a lot of you might not know him. He was THE south bay guy, surfer, volleyball and basketball player, and mentor to us guys. Turns out we were only about 4-5 years younger than these new guys. We were so lucky to spend all those hours together with him. I am more proud than ever he spoke at Mykkanen's funeral. Bless your very larger, scarlet and gold heart.
Rest in Peace Coach Erlinger, you were one of the best of my generation.

Message: JB a quick question, why weren't The Boys put in that tribute at the top of the page? I think I have a good idea, but whats your opinion? MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU. Jake N Jude
Everyone is wondering why the Beach Boys weren't picked over Chris. I can't speak for everyone who voted but my opinion is Chris came before the Beach Boys by a couple of years and the Boys weren't all "Hawthorne Grown Entertainers", as the category specifies. I could actually see Brian Wilson or another individual Beach Boy who came from Hawthorne, but not the group because of the "Hawthorne Grown Entertainer" category. All or most of the categories will change from year to year. I'm sure they'll be in there sooner or later. Maybe next year a category will be "Best red headed wide receiver from Hawthorne High who graduated in 1960".
