Message: Cougar sighting! Did a little shopping at Target this evening and met Enrique Ramirez(HHS'07). When I told him I graduated 31 years before him his interest was piqued and he wanted to know what Hawthorne was like way back then! I started to tell him it was like "Leave it to Beaver" land but I realized he would not understand the analogy! We discussed Cougartown and I encouraged him to bring some classmates to Cruise night!
Hey Clark, thanks for the sighting and he Ctown plug.

Message: What a nice way to enjoy a Sunday morning. We are so fortunate to be able to visit with old friends and enjoy a terrific breakfast. The new chefs at the VFW must have been paying very close attention to Janny during his many years at the stove because they didn't miss a beat. Breakfast was as good as it's ever been...and that's GOOD! And what a great group of C-towners. Of the 80 or so people served yesterday, about 20 or so were HHS alum. If you're at all within driving distance of Hawthorne, do yourself a favor and mark the 3rd Sunday of the month on your calendar and come on out. You will be glad you did. See you in March.
Great breakfast for sure and yes, do not be strangers on VFW breakfast day. It's for a great cause too.

Message: I haven't posted for awhile. I've been ashamed to. I grievously sinned and sold my '65 Mustang. It was either keep the Mustang or keep the Harley I inherited from my son. I hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day. Today is a better day to celebrate. The chocolates are 50% off.
Hey Lar' glad you're back, man. Hope to see that harley on Cruise Night.

Message: John, the lines you're remembering come not long after what I typed, when Frank Howard bunted with bases loaded in the 9th. "Miller hollers Hiller, Hiller hollers Miller. Haller hollers Hiller, points to Miller with his fist. And that's the Miller Hiller Haller Hallelujah Twist."
There you go.

Message: Maury Wills at bat, hit it for me once, Stu Miller throws, Maury bunts. Cepeda runs to field the ball, Hiller covers first, Haller runs the back of Hiller, Hiller crashes into Miller, Miller falls, drops the ball, Conlan calls "Safe!" Yeah, Maury! Gilliam up, Miller grunts, Miller throws, Gilliam bunts. etc. Didn't you love this in '62? P.S. I remember the whole song, without Internet help! I'll bet many of you do too.
Danny Kaye doing something I don't remember the title but I do remember "Hiller hollers Haller, Haller hollers Hiller, (something something something) and that's how you do the Hiller Haller Hallelujah twist". That took me back Ken.

Message: I have to admit my first kiss was not with a Hawthorne Honey but an Inglewood Sentinel and my first Valentine. We both were five and in the same Kindergarten class. We would kiss behind the fence around the Kindergarten area as the second graders would walk by because we discovered it made them giggle. That was about the most fun you could imagine, making second graders giggle.
She IS a cutie, Jer'

Message: Sport's Update - Championship Soccer - Jeremiah Egujie kept the pressure on, Jason Santana struck first and Francisco Alvarez sealed it in dramatic fashion, as the Hawthorne boys soccer team captured its first Ocean League title since 2008 by defeating Santa Monica 2-0 on Thursday night at Hawthorne High. Hawthorne (17-2-3, 8-1-1), which shared the title with Inglewood in 2008, won the title outright by avenging an earlier loss to Santa Monica (13-3-5, 7-2-1).

Message: First kiss: Age 10 with Putt (Tommy) Lazio - underwater in his rubber pool. Then he gave me his Hopalong Cassidy silver bullet as a symbol of our going steady. He asked for it back after 2 days and it gave me my first taste of nothin' but heartache. First real love kiss was Danny Grimsley in high school. Asked to carry my books to class and kissed me in front of Mr. William's art class. I fell in love with him I still love the boy to this day and he and I still talk and laugh about it and end all our phone calls with "I love you." Last real love kiss was with the man in my living room that's growing a lousy painful beard. Lately I've only been blowing him a kiss, but I do love the snot outta him none-the-less. 14 years ago today, I sat on his lap (I could still do that back then ) and he gave me my engagement ring. He wants to recreate that moment but I'm afraid we'll pop a stitch or get seriously stuck in the chair. Back to blowing him a kiss. There you have it, my love life in a nutshell.
A Nutshell ??!! That was a nutshell?

Message: Clark so sorry to hear of Coach Bill Blewett's passing. I know how much he meant to you but even more how much you meant to him. You were truly a great friend to the coach with all you did for him. You are a great example to those you are coaching. Ronnie congrats on your recent nuptials may God bless you both, we are almost neighbors now. Best to you and Linda.

Message: So Google's banner, "First Kiss" (a Sweethart) has aroused my curiosity and a perfect query for CT Feedback. It's not that I would have then, I was too naive. And I can't now, it's simply a matter of age. I don't remember. But I bet some of you do. Hasn't the statute of limitations run out on that kind of disclosure? Share if you dare. First love, how grand.

Message: Relevant to all HHS track runners from the mid-70s and Bob Skrimshaw (71) The pole vault coach at HHS in that era was Coach Bill Blewett who also returned to HHS in the early 90s after a stint at USC. Coach Blewett has been my best friend since high school and coached at various schools in the South Bay. Coach Blewett passed away peacefully today(2/13) around noon from cancer at the age of 82. A great loss to the track & field community as Bill cached CIF and state champions , a world champion and numerous school record holders from Inglewood to Leuzinger, to eagle Rock and USC.
Tough to lose our mentors Clark. Rest in peace Coach Blewett

Message: OK, so this Sunday's VFW breakfast, I understand that the menu will be the same. Gobs of food and I will not be held responsible for limp bacon, gooey eggs or cold toast any longer!! I will, however, bring my baked goods as today I made my peanut butter meatballs. And just for the record, that Tutti a tavola lingo that Noodleman's been throwing around translates to either "don't quit your day job," or "I'd love to kiss you but I just washed my hair." He tries to speak Italian but it loses something in the translation. See you Sunday JB - save me a seat. Your former Friendly Juice Maiden.
OK you can sit next to me if I get extra pancakes.

Message: JB and CT...the Hawthorne VFW breakfast is back open and happening this Sunday, 9-11:30. Sharmyn, Roger and Ruben have assumed this Post event and will be serving up some great breakfast faire each month. Yours truly has needed to step back from chairing many Post events....I'm pooped out and need to regroup! Judy and I will be there - as paying customers - supporting our Post and hope to see many Cougars there. Tutti a tavola a mangiare!
We'll be there Jan and Tutti Frutti Taco and Mayonnaise to you too.

Message: My dad also got to carry the Olympic torch in 2002 as it came through L.A. on its way to Salt Lake City. A real highlight in the Merc Family history. Liked Clark Millman's story about Tom Hintnaus. Will Clark's school record last another 30 years? Janet and I also loved Ron Reinholdson's posting. Congrats!

Message: Okay! You can let the virgins out now. I got married this morning. I married Linda, my significant other of 24 years. (We didn't want to rush into something we might soon regret. I guess we finally decided it might last a while.) We are selling her house in Claremont--it is in escrow, and we will be moving to our house in Ventura in 2 or 3 months--it is also in escrow. No more two hour drives to surf C Street.
Hi Ron, Well congratulations man, and after 24 years you can finally, tonight, consumate the relationship. Have a great life together.
