Message: It's me again, Margret. Anyone remember that song? You have nothing else to do John. I have no life. I'm all alone. Jim is doing Man of La Mancha at the Huntington Beach playhouse, so I'm all alone and feeling VERY needy. You're going to have to block me out. Believe it or not I have been giving you a break. I've posted so many time on FB tonight that they might close my account. Or, as the very least have friends take me off their Facebook page. Also, I took some of the meds the Dr. gave me and I'm wired for some reason and full of chai tea. Enough about me. Good night John. I promise not to post again tonight. Please fix any typos.

Message: Is that the Al Murphy? You used to do work on Saturday nights at the VFW. I think you knew may dad Chuck Moore and Carl Sylvester. At one time they were both post commanders. I have a question for you. Who was the officer who used to be called Blackie. I think you worked with him and Fred Moore once in a while. My dad was good friends with the Chief of Police, I think he was, who lived in Manhattan Beach. Is this your first time on this site? It is so great to see your name and picture on this page. I'm sure many of the racers to whom you gave tickets to are surprised too. LOL You were always really nice to me. Never gave me a ticket.

Message: John, I was A Baby Moon guy too! Ran a set on my 35 ford, also on a 41 ford. (wish I had the vehicles now!)LOL Gary Bickers: Man I loved Lake Elsinore during the sixtys! Kept a trailer on the north side of the lake and went there every chance we could! Great water skiing in the morning or late evening. (ran a 18ft. inboard, hallet hull flat bottom pushed by a built 427 ford, was one of the faster boats on the lake at the time) Name of the boat was "DRY FUZZ". O'Well, them were the days! John, what a great site you have here! Cougars feedback reminds me of the OLE days when Hawthorne was a "JUMPING TOWN" Later, MURPH.
Hey Murph, glad you're here as you add a lot of fun stuff to the site. I'll bet you didn't run that flat bottomed Hallet much when the wind was blowing but sounds like a fun ski boat. Thanks man.

Message: Gary Bickers, your story about the bar and the lights brought back memories of my childhood. When I was around 10-12 years old my dad would take me into bars with him while he had a beer. There were no laws regarding minors being in a bar back in the old days. I there were, the were not enforced in Hawthorne. I would sit there eating red pistachios and drinking Shirley Temples while my dad BS'd with his friends. Also when my mother was ill and unable to attend church, my dad would take me to church. Several times we never made it to the church, just the bar. My dad told me not to tell my mother. Now this was from the guy who told me never to lie. Hmmm? Anyway, my mother would find out we never went to church when Father English from St. Joe's would come by to visit her and give her communion. Also, he snitched on me my senior year of high school when I didn't show up for Christmas midnight mass and went cruising in my dad's car with my friends. Man priests and be real buzz kills. Thanks for the story Gary.

Message: Got a message from a friend that a Hawthorne police officer is going to be on Wheel of Fortune tonight.
At last night's Eagle concert they gave a huge salute to the Beach Boys and how much they influenced them. The best quote was, "the Beach Boys were pioneers, we were just settlers.". It was one awesome show.
Sorry I got this up so late, Karen.

It is really work to learn the routine in a few days, but I am keeping at it. Why in the heck am I doing this at my age, LOL?
Dunno but good luck, Pat.

Message: So I am cruising thru SoCal today on my way to Lake Elsinore with my brother, I say it's time for K-Earth 101, I hear Shotgun Tom Kelly say K-Eagles 101, then he says KRTH! What? Then it dawned on me, someone posted a picture on Facebook,(sorry JB) of the Forum with a huge Eagles record on the rooftop, Hotel California, put 2 and 2 together and figured the Eagles were having a concert. Later, and have a fine COUGAR day!
Yep, saw that giant record on top of the forum too. A little large for my Hi Fi turntable though.

Message: Sharon - Thank you for the birthday wishes. What a lovely thought. Going to the Fabulous Forum tonight for opening night and the Eagles concert. The first concert I ever attended was at the Forum. I think it was 1970 - I know it was Jimi Hendrix -
At the Forum, mine was Chicago. Sat in the front row as two people switched seats with us because it was too NOISY. Loved it. Have a great time Noreen and tell Glenn and Don, John says Hey.

Message: Hey Jan, sorry to hear that you are stepping down as "Head Cook and Bottle Washer" at the VFW. You've done a super job over the last couple of years. I know we can't fully appreciate the tremendous amount of work that goes into that job, but you have done it well. The next crew will have their hands full trying to keep up the standard that you have set. But it will be nice to be able to sit and visit with you and Tilly for a change. See you in Feb.

Message: To the Cougartown faithful... My involvement at the Hawthorne VFW has taken its toll and has finally caught up with me. I have decided to step back from several of my 'person in charge' events at the Hawthorne VFW, one of them being the monthly breakfast. That being said, there will not be a breakfast this coming Sunday but it will be back in February, just under new leadership and a downsized menu. I do not know what the new menu will be but I will keep CT informed when I hear more. Thank you all who have continued to support our veterans by supporting the Hawthorne VFW. See you next month at the breakfast - not as the head cook - but as a paying customer!
Hey Jan, Thank you for the great food and dedication you have shown. It's been a fun couple of years with you. Now come sit with us and enjoy whatever slop is being provided. Just kidding folks but it is REALLY about showing up and supporting a super organization, the VFW. See you next month.

Message: Happy Birthday to Sue Smith, one of the sweetest '62 Cougars out there. On another note, way back in the 50-somethings my mother worked for a plastic injection molding company that made those wienie whistles and Heinz dill pickle pins. She used to bring home bunches of them for my brother and I, but did we keep any.....NOOOOO! At least not that I remember, but I think I'll go call my brother Tom and see if he stashed any.
Happy Birthday Sue!! Yes, we need weenie whistles, Tom.

Message: Clark and John. The answer is Yes! Weiner Whistles are still being passed out and I got one today! The Oscar Mayer Weinermobile was on the corner of El Segundo and Hawthorne Blvd today and I just so happened to be driving by and saw it, took some pictures, talked to the driver and got me a whistle. He said there are six Weinermobiles driving the roads of America and his next stop after Hawthorne was Santa Barbara. I asked for a ride and if he could blow the horn, but he said no can do. Hey, no harm asking. Made me hungry for a hot dog and hummimg the "I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Weiner" song the rest of the day. Ha ha.
That was exactly where I saw "Little Oscar" the last time, El Segundo and Hawthorne in front of Roth Market (1953). Little Oscar has to be about 95 by now. Thanks Tom.
