Message: Blast from the past: I was going north on the 405 yesterday when I realized the vehicle next to me was very large and strange. I slowed down to get a good look and sure enough it was the Oscar-Mayer wiener mobile! little Oscar wasn't driving but I was tempted to take the afternoon off and follow them in the hopes of getting a new wiener whistle like the one I got from little Oscar in front of Boys Market in the 60s!
I wonder if they still give those out.

Message: Haven't been to CT in awhile but saw where everyone was talking about "sayings" that Grandparents used and it made me think of my Grandma Jenson and when she would get frustrated with us she would say "Lord A Massey killed a skunk". Whatever that meant?!? And John thanks again for the best alumni site on the web. Happy New Year to everyone out there. Hope to be able to make the cruise night in April.
Hi Terri, love the gramma quote. Hope to see you in April.

Message: Just when you think the "Cougar Stalker" has gone into winter hibernation, he pops back up! Ran into Josette Gumina (HHS 67) today. Anyone pre 1990 feels like a victory for me as I usually sight the young ones! I was in the Hawthorne area so I drove by Halcap to see what was going on. it was 4:30 p.m. and I was pleased to see both the baseball team and soccer teams hard at practice with no sign of finishing practice soon. I remember in the 70s I did not want to leave track practice until it got too dark to see the crossbar. Looks like Hawthorne is producing some dedicated athletes!
Hey Clark, I was wondering where you went. Good sighting man, thanks.

Message: Hey Tom, just saw your post of Jan. 4th and yep, depending on what day of April "Cruise Night" will be, I'll try and be there. We come out to SoCal every April for two weeks to see friends and family. We usually fly into Palm Springs and stay with old friend George Miller--been doing it for 47 years. Will be great to see you and Ray and others from our time (yes John your from our time). Judy and I hope to see Camille there but if not I'll try and see her later. I'll try and bring George Miller and Don Heikes and the Essners. Should be fun.
Hi Barney, April 5th is Cruise Night 30. Some of you received an errant date of the 6th but that is a Sunday (I have trouble reading calendars) and thanks to Richard Hansen for setting me straight on that. Hope to see 1000s of Cougars there.

Message: Happy New Year to all my CT friends. I hope the year keeps us all happy and healthy. So sorry to hear of the passing of Phil Everly. They were one of my favorite duos back then.
For those of you in the South Bay; my son-in-law Jim Kordan HHS '82 and my daughter Karen Shelley Kordan BMHS '82 have moved their salt water aquarium store and are selling a lot of the excess equipment out of their old store today and tomorrow. Lots of 25 & 30 gal. fish tanks; some decorative glass blocks, shelving units, etc. Cheap! go by and take a look. Aquatic Fantasy, 541 PCH, Redondo Beach. (Near Burl).
Time for me to get a fish tank. Thanks Tom

Message: I saw where Phil Everly, the youngest of the of the Everly Brothers pop duo passed Friday. Loved their songs... "All I Have to Do is Dream"... real belly rubbin' music. On a brighter note... Ginny & I spent New Years Eve at the California Musical Theatre in Sacramento watching "Buddy... The Buddy Holly Story"... Great story behind the legend... and of course the song that brought everyone to their feet was "Peggy Sue".
Sounds like a fun show, Mike.

Message: I recently heard from my old friend John Fredrickson (1961) that his younger brother Gary (1963) has passed away. If you remember Gary then you'll remember that "Gary Smile" like Cool Hand Luke. Very handsome guy and where Gary was there was always fun. He also did the Hully Gully and danced better than any boy I knew and played a mean bongo in 1961. His love in high school was Judy Woodard and they made the perfect couple. Hope all that brought back good memories and hope Gary is having a laugh on me. Loved you G. Hully Gully On and I'll miss your "Gary smile."
Sorry to hear the news on Gary. Thanks Judy for letting his friends know the news. Our sincere condolences to John and the rest of the Fredrickson family.

Message: For those of us fortunate enough to have had Cal Kappen as a friend, we were a lucky group. Always a smile on his face and enough Cougar tales to fill several pages of CT, we will all miss him dearly. Calvin was truly one of the "good guys". Rest in peace brother.
The word I have on Cal is from Rich Sloan via Kelly Kappen: Cal was in St. Louis visiting his family when he passed away. Cal hadn't been in the best of health for the last few years. Plans are to inter him there, with family.

Message: My mom is a saint and has never cursed in her life nor spanked us when we were kids. She left that all up to my dad. When we bad, she would order us "Go to the bathroom". That was our prison and we were sentenced for as long as she felt the punishment fit the crime. If it got closer to 5:30 p.m., when my dad would be arriving home, whoever the prisoner was, would beg for mercy and tell my mom they were sorry and would never do "the crime" again and asked to be let free before dad got home. Believe me, my brothers and I learned quickly never to have our dad find us in bathroom prison when he got home! Ouch!! It didn't take a lot of spankin' to teach you right from wrong real fast. I miss my dad, but to this day, I don't like being in bathrooms around 5:30 p.m. Ha ha

Message: Well! Asking about phrases our parents said! MOMMA MIA! My mother had a ton of them LOL! And some we still use today! Like : "OH LOUIE GO TAKE A PILL" (MY DADS NAME WAS LOUIE) She hardly dropped the F bomb LOL! But when she did .. You knew it was BAD!! Going out for the night my Mom would say " Make wise choices Jimmy! and keep that fly up! , there's plenty of fish in the sea" or my Dad would talk in Italian to tell Mom something he didn't want us kids to know. If my grandmother talked dirty, it was in Italian LOL! Because she didn't speak any english!!
