Message: Oh my God, Jim. What flew through the air at noon to make that song jump up in both of our heads? Maybe it was Santa's Sleigh on a reconnaissance trip. I just got through posting the question, (Ok, so this is the time of year. Who remembers what the Magic Words were to send it on its Merry Way?) on FaceBook and wandered over to see what was going on in Cougartown. Lo and behold, there are you reciting the same jingle. Anyway, Merry Christmas to you too and to all of Cougartown. Could Santa riding a Norelco in the snow be far behind?
I just looked this up; the writer of the jingle was Gene Landis, uncle of director John Landis. I do not know what the Magic Words were unless they were "Mission Pack". Mission Pack also had a store in downtown LA.

Message: Seasonal Greetings: Say the magic word - say Mission Pack and it's on it's merry way. No gift so right, so gay, so bright, give the Mission pack something something something. What was in a Mission Pack? It's weird how you can remember a jingle from 50/60 years ago, and yet I can't remember where I left the remote 5 min. ago. How about the Dellarobia Wreath? Another faint memory of the day. Coming soon to a theatre or drive-in near you: HHS Class of 66 turns 66. Glad I made it. 20 degree's outside today. No school! Remember-- Santa's watching!
something something something = Magic Way. I think it was candied fruits and nuts plus ??

Message: Spent the T day holiday up in Wrightwood Ca, for a couple of days with my two sons and their families, And i was surprised to see that the Hawthorne camp is up and running! WOW!! That brought back a flood of memories! Sixth grade winter camp and walking on Jackson Lake. It was all locked up but kinda neat to walk around an area i haven't been to for such a long period of time. Also want to say good bye to Wayne Lebo, I enjoyed playing football with him. Your in peace now. Keep the bench warm my old amigo.
Hawthorne Youth Camp was a fun place. Was there the summer of 1956. Mike Hunter and Tommy Graves were camp counselors.

Message: I hope my first note didn't get sent as it just vanished. Lance! Good to see you! I thought about you a lot when we lost our great Gary Beaird. You and I hung out a lot doing football stuff. Your dad was the best! Last memory of Wayne Lebo was that I sat next to him at an awards banquet. I vividly remember the brown suit and crisp white collar as we watched a courageous Mr Thomas make his way up the aisle to accept a postumous award for his son, Tim Thomas. Mopping his tears with an open palm he bravely marched up to the podium where he was met by MC Coach Hal. The two fathers embraced while managing their respective watershed in a cafeteria filled suddenly stricken with dead silence. I was comforted somewhat when I noticed some dried mud on Wayne's right ear. Guess the shower after PE missed it. He was such a sweet kid I couldn't even mention it to him. :( I won a stuffed animal Cougar and that was the night. Tough for all watching Tim's dad while sitting next to another hero in Wayne Lebo. Our memories never die, do they? They sure last longer than us! Thanks again John for keeping us posted. Love you guys, Jim
Hey Jim, long time man.... great story too. Strange how the death of a good friend brings the rest together, if for just a short time. Never met Wayne but I can tell he was loved by you guys.

Message: Such a sad shock to see from Carl Johnson that Wayne Lebo died. I went all through grade school with him, played Little League with him, and did his paper route for him when he'd go on summer vacations. Since I recently was going through all the sports stories from my senior year that my parents had saved, I saw Wayne mentioned several times for football and baseball. I see here in the COUGAR of May 24, 1968 that he won Best Lineman for Bee Football.

Message: I guess I have been asleep since I went to bed Friday night. But I had some amazing dreams. One, that a football player, with no time left on the clock and the score tied, ran a field goal back 109 yards for a TD to win the game. And one VERY pleasant dream, that UCLA beat USC. Now that I'm awake, I guess I'll try to find out what really happened.
I guess dreams do come true, Ron

Message: Ken Mercurio - All my copies of the Cougar newspapers got lost in the shuffle over the years. How I would love to read some of the articles I wrote that year. My mother was so proud of me, as her dream was to be a journalist. It was my dream too - tho I ended up being a bookkeeper! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And John, I thank you for all these years of enjoyable reading. It has meant so much to me, and many, many others.
Thanks Betty, Happy Thanksgiving to you and thank you for sticking with us for the last decade plus.

Message: Hey JB Bakerman. I remember about 14 years ago around this time that you were hanging off of Janet Burkett's Palm tree putting up her Christmas lights..yes, hanging my your fingernails. I never got that visual out of my head. We'll probably see you and your mom at Hoff's today for Thanksgiving. You usually leave the table to use the restroom about the time that the check comes but it's ok, we're use to it. Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and remember that you can say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or nothing at all, all because of your earned freedom to do so. Give gap, get gap and don't settle for someone's greed to have it all their own way. That's not what freedom is about. Oh, come by as Jan will be hanging by his fingernails from our roof this weekend putting up our lights. I'll be giving him directions from the lounge chair and occasionally getting him a cold lemonade so he doesn't get dehydrated. XXXXX Til
Yes that was an experience I'm trying to forget thanks Til and see you at Hofs Hut.
