Message: Leo, Thank you for your birthday greetings and also the veteran greetings. I was in the US Navy during Viet Nam. Spent the day Saturday on the USS Hornet Museum in Oakland, California. I remember you as well and yes I was a golfer, but at high school I played baseball. Today, Paul Clark 67" and his wife Adel "68 came to the winery and we had a nice visit reliving the wonderful Hawthorne memories. I still keep in contact with Mike Flatten and Chuck Wigley.

Message: Betty, your post reminded me of another Cougar Veteran story and one that I have been wondering about lately. Years ago when my children were young, a woman who worked with my mother at Continental Airlines gave my kids a piano. She had bought the piano for her son when he was young. This young man died in Vietnam. She was moving because her house was right behind the Hawthorne Mall and it had become somewhat of a crime area. She couldn't take the piano with her so it was important to her that it go to a family with children so they could learn how to play. My three children did indeed learn piano and it has been in our front room until recently when I gave it to my neighbors whose four young children want to learn to play. I told my neighbor the story. Now I am curious about who this young man might have been. I know it wasn't Tim Thomas because I went to school with his sister and I would have remembered if it was him. All I know was that he was about my age and he grew up just east of the Blvd. I wish I could call my mom and ask her the name but she has been gone for several years. His mother could very well still be living and I would like her to know that children are still learning on his piano and also how much joy my family got from it.
Great story Linda, now to find out who this young Cougar was and as a start please check the Vietnam page for clues. If you do figure it out please let us know. Very interesting for sure.

Message: If indeed a fifty (50) year reunion were to occur in 2014, I would sincerely plan to attend such an event. Although I doubt many would remember me, I still have a vivid memory of my years at HHS amid the many familiar names that have continually appeared in the Hawthorne feedback section over several years. It's actually comforting to see that Mike Flatten, Leo Ainsworth, Chuck Wigley, Glenn Crist, Judy DeGrazia, Lee Ann Nixon, Patty Kavanaugh and Tom Buckingham et al contribute to this great site. A special "thank you" is extended to you, Mr. John Baker for having the good sense and presence of mind to indulge all HHS alumni in sharing thoughts, pictures and other media into this positive venue. Happy birthday fellow veterans and you, as well, Leo Ainsworth! I still remember you, Mike Flatten & Chuck Wigley exchanging dialogue from time to time. I thought that you belonged to the Golf Club, because you always donned a cardigan sweater. Notwithstanding I hope your special day was filled with festive celebration!
Hi Leo, thanks very much for the nice Cougartown thoughts and for letting friends know you're here. I'm sure more people than you think will remember you.
Yes it is looking very, very likely that the class of 64 will have a 50th reunion. Got a call from Glenn this morning and he's trying to decide on a weekend based on the feedback received from an email that was sent to all class of 64 alumni. BTW, if you are class of 64 and didn't receive this email, please make sure your e-address is up to date on the Ctown Info List. VERY important fellow Cougars. If you're not sure of your User Name or Password, please email me and I will help.

Message: Very active with several events for the disaster in the Philippines, yesterday my wife and I spent the day at our church, Filipino Christian Church, working on a Rummage Sale to raise money for the fund. If anyone saw the news on channel 7 you saw our church and my wife. If anyone would like information about other events that we will be giving, please contact me. Very nice concert will be our next event. Mayor of L.A. will be attending and the church is a designated Historical landmark and we also have a museum that traces the migration of Filipinos to the U.S.
Thanks Eugene for the info. Do hope you and Elie's friends and family made it through OK as lots of people didn't.

I played the Eddie Haskell bit..."Good afternoon, Mrs. Shay. Oh, good idea Mrs. Shay. My don't you look lovely today!" You know, I laid it on pretty thick. She never had a chance. Hope all is well with you and your family. I hope to see you soon.

Message: just when you think the "Cougar Stalker has gone into winter hibernation, he makes a comeback! I was in Ralphs tonight and I overheard a woman say "I went to Hawthorne High!" Well that was like pressing the on button for the stalker! I introduced myself and it was Carla Koundachian (HHS'92. She said her family were the only Armenians at HHS. Carla was a cheerleader and Cheryl Carr was her cheer advisor. We talked about the school rebuild and Cougartown. She will be a lively addition to the alumni community! On another note I apologize for calling all you local old time football players "disloyal". We all have different priorities in life.
Thank you Clark, I knew you didn't mean that.

Message: For shame on all of you South Bay Cougars who did not come to Homecoming last night! The football looked the best it has looked in 15 years. We had an exciting first half scoring five touchdowns and one two point conversion for a 36 -0 halftime lead ending in a 50 -7 victory for HHS. The band continues to improve and the student body had a decent turnout. I was ashamed of my fellow alumni who could not be bothered to show up. It was a dark moment for Cougartown, especially you guys who played for coach Chauncey. Sure you'll go to his birthday party and have a drink with him, but support our current team not quite. You guys are disloyal bums!
You forgot to say thank YOU John for being there and for getting 7 old cars, three of which were driven by alumni; myself, Jerry Hopkins HHS59 and Dave Cato HHS60, to cart the Prince and Princesses around at half time Thank you Clark for your support. Our new coach is doing a great job. Yesterday was his birthday and he was coaching Beverly Hills this time last year. Also Clark, you did a great job on the Halcap sign too.

Message: Hey Judy, you would never tell me with which political party you are aligned. But I think you gave it away yesterday. I mean you take a breakfast away from the veterans and give it to me and then you take it away from me to give it to John because he "cry-babys" that I owe him one. Yeah, I think I know what side you're on now! But I love you anyway; even if you are one of "those people". Thanks for the b'day wish. See you soon.
OK, neither of you owe me anything AND I will buy your breakfasts in December.....make that January.

Message: Tom Shelly, To one of my favorite funny people in this world. Happy BD and I owe you a VFW breakfast to celebrate. However, if you want to give it to John Baker to pay him for the dinner that you owe him, than you're Equali Pasquali. No VFW breakfast in Nov...but back as normal in Dec. Happy Birthday and get your cute butt back down here. You know where you can find me. And no JB, I'm not on 5th and Main anymore. I'll drop by your house later tonight for "some caaandy."
Glenn will be here with some wine too. Hey Judy, You never gave me a free breakfast so it looks like you owe both Tom and me. Happy Birthday Tommy.
