Message: I, too, completely enjoyed the HHS c/o '63 Reunion. Looking across the room, I'm am positive everyone else there did too. Kudos to the reunion committee, especially Dorothy Johnston Slawson and Linda Huthmaker for an incredible job. To steal a phrase, "You all rocked." It's time to pass the torch to the HHS Class of 1964 and for us to carry on the tradition.

Message: REUNION, Inglewood style. They just had their 50th last week. Rocky Price, the little five foot six inch football, basketball and baseball player we all chased around for four years brought his 93 year old Mom as his date. Rocky and I were born on the same day at the same hospital. His Mom Sharlet is a character. She was asked and spoke for 15 minutes. Sorry I missed it.

Message: The REUNION; it was really fun. I said to anyone who would listen that people looked healthier and happier than at the 40th reunion. It came to me, all these folks are now retired without a care in the world. I still work and now realize after looking across the totally jammed room I have a big responsibility. Happy to support you happy Cougars.

Message: 1963 Reunion Magic...I Brought the calendar that I produced for Breast Cancer and donated it to the reunion committee to auction for money for the reunion overruns. But the committee said no they wanted to auction it off for Breast cancer. THIS WONDERFUL GROUP OF ALUMNI BID AND BID. TOM LONG HAD THE WINNING BID..... $500. I was shocked. Tom then took the calendar up and asked that the next highest bid also provide their bid!! So Dorothy Slawson (Johnson) is providing her bid for $410. Then that night a couple people donated $20-40. On Sunday morning I received $100.00 from two people. THIS IS A FANTASTIC GROUP. I AM IN AWE.... thank you from deep in my heart. I had a wonderful time ... first time to see anyone in 50 years. Looking forward to the next. The committee did a wonderful job. thank you.

Message: Congratulations to the Class of 63 for a Great 50 year Reunion tonight. An enormous turnout at the Ayres Hotel for this one. Lots of good speakers and stories from The Ol' Coach Hal Chauncey, Coach Sid Semon, Coach Otto Plum, Floyd McCutcheon, Myrtle Reeves and our own Gary Bickers. Jim Bush was the master of ceremonies and did an outstanding job. It was still going strong when I left and should go on into the early morning.
Thanks to the reunion committee members; Dorothy Johnston Slawson, Linda Huthmaker, Bill Shultz, Floyd McCutcheon, Lynn Brooks, Barbara Hamilton Beard, and Jim Bush for putting on one heck of a show.

I played for the Lloyd Dennees Cardinals from 1955 thru 1957 and won the triple crown in 1957, with a 637 batting avg. 6 hr. and 27 rbi. With all the trophies I received in my baseball and softball career this trophy is my most treasured. I am still into sports as I own a Sporting Goods store in Hawthorne. Thank You for the memories. Message: Barney mentioned the middle league all star team going to Santa Maria. For years our family packed up a trailer and went to the world series of middle league. I don't know if it has been mentioned but Santa Maria started middle league in the early 50s. I dont know about today but it was only played in Calif., and as Gary B. said was a gap between little league and american legion ball. Pony and Colt leagues were the norm every place else. And John, Richard Berry plumbing the sponser was the father of another 50s quarter midget driver Richard "High Gear" Berry. Steve Fraser remembers him. Re: Linda McVeigh's article. Do you really want to put this in Hawthornes Museum? "bleak" is not how many of us viewed Hawthorne, especially in the 60s. enuff said.

Message: I just saw John Pritchard's posting about El Segundo's "Old Town Music Hall". When I worked for Hughes Aircraft in the late 80's and early 90's, we used to go to a great hamburger place for lunch and drink beer, with sawdust on the floor (can't remember the name)----anyway, I wanted to go to see what the Old Town Music Hall was about and I saw Korla Pandit. My mom used to be in love with his eyes, when he had a 15 min. T.V. show on KTLA, Channel 5. She would never miss the program----I think it was in the early 50's. John can you remember when his show was on and the name of the hamburger place------it might have been "Richmonds".

Message: As long as Tom Burroughs is going back so far on the Hawthorne Middle League, I will add my input. I played for the 1955-56 Lloyd Dennee's Cardinals, who won the pennant that year. We had on our team---Mr. Massey (Coach), Dave Jacobson, John Massey*, Bill Welsh*, Al Phenicie, Barry Mitchell*, Jim Week*, Me, Paul Burbey, Richard Lydon, Terry Birdsal*, Jerry Florey*, Fred Ewing, Billy Brooks, Ronnie Barr* and Jay Wilson (* indicates All Star Team). The Allstar team went to Santa Maria to compete but can't remember how we did. Our team also rode in the Hawthorne Parade that year---I still have the picture of our team in three vehicles, a White Chevy Pick-up, a Red Ford Convertible and Mr. Massey's little white car (I have no idea what it was).
