Message: Tomorrow - friends and family will gather to celebrate the special life of John Crotty. It will be a time for sharing warm memories, a time for comfort and caring and a time for honoring a wonderful life. Close friends are like family...they become a part of who we are. Joseph Epstein once said, "We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents, or the country of our birth. We do not, at least most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live." And as you can tell from the photos in the video, John lived his fully. He went through hell these past four years and he did so with extraordinary courage. God bless his sister Noreen. She touched his life with compassion and care, sometimes in very trying circumstances. May God bless all of the Crotty family. And to John - rest in peace cowboy.

Message: John, it would appear as though Cypave was a stop on the old Pacific Electric line that ran from El Segundo to the Pacific Electric Building. It opened in 1914 and shut down in 1930. Cypave was a stop running through Hawthorne centered around Jack Northrop and Crenshaw. Least that's what the map says. Appearently Cypave is/was a city within a city. Just my guess looking at various sites.
YES Greg, Cypave was a stop on the P&E. You say it it opened in 1914 but Jerry Miles has a 1912 map that has Cypave on it, so who knows for sure. It also shows up on accuweather.com as a city but that can't be correct. Thanks for the best answer yet... my answer too.

Message: I just want to share a recollection of times spent with my friend John Crotty. We were at a talent nite back in the early 70's competing at Cal's Corral in Lawndale. I beat Jobn and everyone else competing by a technicality rather than talent. John told me he was going to sing a Hank Williams tune "I'm so lonesome I could cry" and he did....very well, in fact, so good I had to come up with something to outshine him. I sang "Kawliga" about an old wooden Indian with very strong drum beat When the song was over, with tambourines in hand, I looked at the drummer and let those suckers fly! He caught the dang thing on his stick, it rolled down his arm, before you knew it, I was getting a standing ovation! John came over to me and asked, what hat did you pull that out of, kissed me on the cheek and told me he loved me anyway. RIP my friend! Wayne is right, another heavenly voice in his choir!

Message: Hi, We have been reeiving many requests to know where our brother John's service will be. Here is what his daughters have sent out: The Celebration of John's Life on Thursday will have the honor guard, bugler, bag pipes and hopefully police chief Beck to deliver a eulogy, as per Dad's wishes for services. Dad was never formal and always used to quote "Party on Wayne! Party on Garth!" We would like to respect his wishes and celebrate the wonderful man we all loved so very much. We're asking everyone to wear green, to keep in lieu with the celebration. The Celebration is at the Elks Lodge in Redondo Beach (315 Espanade) on Thursday at 1pm. Food will be provided. If you have any photos of Dad, please email them to Amanda (amandamcrotty@gmail.com) to contribute to a video she is creating. ~ Brandi Crotty

Message: Yesterday morning the class of 1969 and the whole Cougartown family lost a dear friend. "John Crotty". Some may say well who was this John Crotty. let me tell you a little bit about John. He was a man of integrity, wit and humor. A man who spent 30+ years on the LA police force, protecting it's people. That was not all John did. By being a jock in high school, he had a love for football, so when he heard about Dallas Cowboy tryouts in So. Ca. he went and made it to the last cut before the season 1975. What an accomplishment. John loved to sing and he had a beautiful voice. Another thing I remember about John was his memory. Ask him the name of the band on a song. He could tell you the people in the group and what year it was popular. He was never wrong. Like a walking dictionary on pop music. If he would have ever been on Jeopardy, he would have gone far. His love for crossword puzzles gave him an edge. Donna & I have had many fun times and memories that will never be forgotten. Yes he will be missed, but God has just recieved a great voice to sing in his choir.
