Message: JB - Since I live in the Hinterlands (OH-IO), Cougar sightings are very rare. So does it count if I paid money to see 2.5 Cougars? Thursday last, spent a wonderful evening in perfect surroundings to see the Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, David Marks open air concert in Kettering, OH. Crowd was great, music was great. And I now claim credit for youngest grandchild exposed to live Beach Boys music. My daughter is expecting in October, so my first grandchild heard "Good Vibrations" at -3 months old. My daughter, son-in-law, wife and especially I, had a tremendous time.
Hey JB, Long time since our Optimidgets days, thanks for checking in and for the Concert update. We'll be seeing the "Boys" in October at the Greek Theater. I know it will be a fun night.

Message: I just finished listening to my friend John Crotty singing "Knockin on heaven's door". I remember back in the day when John, myself and others started traveling LA's local country hot spots such as Cal's Corral in Lawndale, The Palomino in N. Hollywood, etc. to sing in talent contests. We both went on to have bands and enjoy the country music way of life. For those who didn't know John, please watch & listen to this video made by his family. Very touching! I wish the best for John and his family in this difficult & trying time that he has encountered. God Bless!

Message: Hi Everyone, I had a semi "Cougar" Sighting, this morning, at Orange County Fairgrounds. I happened upon a gal, with whom I had worked at City of Torrance, who was with her high school chums (West High), and one of them, who's name is Alex, asked me where I had gone to High School. When I told her, proudly, that it was Hawthorne High, she asked me if I know Otto Plum? I said "of course I know Otto Plum", and Alex said "he's my Father!" She then called her parents, and told them about our chance meeting. So our 50th High School reunion is excited to know that Mr. and Mrs. Plum are planning to attend the reunion, which is being held on October 11 and 12, at the Ayre's Hotel, in Hawthorne. Thank you, Alex, for introducing yourself! And Alex, you are also invited to the reunion. You really made my day! Fondly, Linda Huthmaker/1963
Good "Son Sighting" there Linda. It looks like the Class of 63 reunion is really warming up now. Hope to see lots of other classes there too, especially my class of 62 buddies.

I don't know many of these guys but if Sloey is correct, (reverse order) wouldn't the guy in the black Tshirt be Michael Neilson per Steve Bunch?

Message: Just wanted to let any Cougars know that are going to the Sonoma Autolites drags that I will be there on Sunday. I will be racing in the Top the Cops program against teen drivers. I have been doing this for the past 10 years or so and I have a blast. It is a great place to get high school drivers racing in a safe manner. I will be driving a Teen safety Novato Police Department SUV. If you are there come up and say hi.
Thanks Steve. Have a fun day at "the drags".

Message: Quiz Clues: As Jim Sloey pointed out, all Parks and Rec b-ball players come from future graduating classes from 1971-1973. Guy in the black shirt in back row is a distant relative of Harry Nilsson and was a pretty fair football DB and a good buddy of Tambo when he coached LL Yankees. Far right back row was a Lawndale High dude who we used to call the KFC Colonel Sanders. Another top row person not guessed was an HHS great cross country runners who was on same team with all timer Kevin McCarthy. Front row left is a "Mini-C*****" who had an older brother from early 60s class. Front row far right was younger brother of Jim and Mary and also a great swimmer/water polo player. I think all the others have been identified.

Message: So if the black tee-shirt guy isn't Greg Shambaugh -- is it his brother? I can't recall his name. Was it Rumplestilskin? Mark? Chris? Did Mike Scott play Basketball at HHS? I used to go to Holy Glen Park when Bart Graves was the coach there, and remember Mike as a Baskball wunderkid. Didn't Sloey teach Mike the split-finger pitch?
Jim, Sloey was a catcher. He showed him how to split his finger catching the ball.

Message: The group was mostly class of 71. Scott was a 73 graduate and was 2 years younger than most of these guys. He also was probably the best basketball player in the group pretty good baseball player but a much better basketball player at this age. When he was in the 4th grade he played against the 5th and 6th graders and when he was in 6th grade he was playing against the 7th and 8th graders, he was the best of the group. I had the fortune of coaching one group of kids that played at the sports arena and we drafted teams, Gene Lents had the other team. I had first pick and took the 6th grader, We probably played 15 minutes before the game and 12 minutes at half time, Scott hit some big shots that would have been 3's today; he had the crowd going nuts at the halftime. Fierce competitor. Fittingly in this picture he has the ball.
