Message: On this gray summer morning, I'm at the library here in Cougartown for the GND. On the way here, I was listening to KCSN (88.5 FM) Northridge which features an all-Beatles show (the band and its solo components) with airchecks from the local stations of the 60s on Saturday mornings. The band still sounds good, especially the early days, while the solos are perhaps a mixed bag. Another example of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts? KCSN is also the new home of Harry Shearer's "Le Show" at 10 a.m. Sundays, after his mothership, KCRW, dropped the live broadcast. In fairness, Harry is rarely in Santa Monica anymore, and sometimes does shows on New Orleans, its music and other topics of minor interest to the denizens of the People's Republic of SM. The fact that he has done it for free for 30 years matters little. What have you done for me lately, is what counts in LA. The slow-motion reconstruction of HHS may be done, someday.

Message: Hello everyone! Been away from CT for awhile. Helping my son on a new project. Trying to catch up reading on CT. Just wanted to say my first job was working for the Herald Examiner as a paper boy. Back then we all met at a office on Inglewood Blvd, just north of 120 st, folded our papers and then would ride off to our respected routes .. Sundays were fun (except for the size of the paper) We had to show up very early on Sun, and there was an old drunk guy that lived behind the office. The older paper carriers knew when that drunk would come in from drinking. And the drunk would always leave his keys in the ignition. Yep! Papers were delivered very fast Ha Ha! In fact JB my route was in or near your hood. We would then all meet at the doughnut shop next to Safeway. My dad worked at North America Aviation during WW2 and thru the 50s then transfered to Rocketdyne in 1958 to the SF valley. He never wanted to move to the valley because of the heat. So he car pooled all those years! His reason was simple , He loved the cool Hawthorne air! After reading Clarks remarks about the "records of IHS" Clark, you need to take a vacation amigo! Yes you've done a lot of good here on CT, and for HHS. But dude! Take a chill pill. I picture you as a celebrated general from a third world army with a zillion medals hanging across your chest! Each medal for a Cougar sighting. Relax dude . . . My radio was always on KMET or KCRW ! .. Last , I hope "Good Neighbors Day" is a hit! I had a blast last year seeing old amigos! I won't be able to attend this year due to family matters. Mahalo and aloha!

Message: Just a reminder that tomorrow is the 3rd Annual Good Neighbors Day in the city of Hawthorne. It will be in the theme of a "Good 'Ol Fashioned Picnic. There will be a lot of fun events, great food, and a classic car show. The event will take place in the Civic Center right by City Hall on 126th St. The Historical Society has been working very hard to make this a success and we would love to see a lot of Cougars come out and go down memory lane. If you haven't had a chance to visit the museum this would be a great opportunity. Hope to see you all there. And then ... Sunday is VFW breakfast day!

Message: John, Thank you for putting in all the time to update the email list. For those of us who work to locate classmates for our reunions, CT is invaluable. I know the CT/FB debate comes up occasionally. I like both. CT can't keep me in touch with family and friends spread far and wide unless they are alumni. For that reason I am learning to like FB, BUT there are no rivals to CT for an alumni site. The only thing I miss on CT is the "like/thumbs up" feature. There are many times I just want to "like" something on CT. I know that is such a minor little thing. Therefore, you and CT remain THE BEST! P.S. Do you want us to let you know when an email address that we got off CT kicks back at us?

Message: The most popular radio web site is www.laradio.com. There you will find recent updates on all your favorite radio people, many are still alive. Mary Turner looks very professional as a blond. Lets us not forget all the great country/western music and shows in the late 50's and through the 60's in Los Angeles, both on radio and TV. The Santa Claus Lane Parade on Thanksgiving eve always brought out many of the radio stars from all types of music.

Message: I loved Charlie Tuna. He's still on the radio. I had the privilege of interviewing him once. I still have the tape of that interview. He is a really interesting man. He started in the mid-west on radio when he was only 14 years old. It was a small station. Just before a show was supposed to start, the DJ came in inebriated. He was the only one there, so they had him do the show. No dead air allowed by the FCC or big fines. He was a hit and that is the start of his career. This came straight from the Tuna's mouth. Really a very nice man. Thank you for the interview Charlie.

Message: I kinda thought we all had this radio station discussion before, so I searched the archives and figured I'd just post what I did back in 2005: In the early '70s some friends and I went up to Hollywood and staked out the KMET Studios, hoping to catch a glimpse of Mary "Mounds" Turner, their evening DJ. We met her on her way out and and had a good 15-20 minute conversation with her. A really nice girl and not at all what we expected. We perceived her to be some blonde bombshell from her on air voice and personality. It turns out she was a cute and petite brunette. Now days a stunt like that would result in some kind of restraining order. She went on to get a doctorate in psychology and married the guy who founded the radio empire "Westwood One" She's now the chairwoman of the Betty Ford Center at Eisenhower Hospital in Rancho Mirage.

The one where all the staff were mysteriously fired one night in the fall of '71, and replaced with new staff and a more traditional format (boooooooring).
