Message: JB, can I make one last announcement. Cinco de Mayo is this Sunday. We still have tickets for sale at the Hawthorne VFW post. See Susie in the canteen for tickets or you can just show up on Sunday and buy them at the door. Starts at 2: pm goes till 6. Live band with must from the 50's to the 90's. The King and I will be serving and Rubin & Shirley Vanegas will be cooking. Now, think about it... did you really have some place better to be. Proceeds will go to the post and in turn to help the Vets. First Margarita will be on me...no seriously, it's on me, I keep spilling them. Also have some moustaches for the Senores and some sparkly flowers on a hair comb for the Senoritas. A sombrero for you JB. Start fasting now and eat up on Sunday!
I was going to be there but the sombrero thing has me thinking Maybe you can forget the hat and slide a couple extra tacos on my plate.....for Lilly.

Message: Peter Nelson, I believe a casino near me in Jackson has the same Beach Boy machine. I loved hearing the old Beach Boy's tunes through the seat back headphones on every spin and the way the chair vibrated in different spots when you won. I was slowly losing until I decided to rub a picture of Brian on his stomach for luck. After that I quickly was $60 ahead. I didn't end up the night a big winner but the Beach Boys machine was at least good to me.

Message: FIRST AND FOREMOST I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT CLARK YOU ARE DA MAN. WHAT YOU DID IN RESURECTING THE HAL-CAP SIGN THAT APPARENTLY WAS GONNA BE DISCARTED LIKE TRASH FAR OUT SEEDS YOUR ABILITIES AS THE " COUGAR STALKER". WITH THAT SAID, ARE YOU KIDDIN ME?? WHY DID CLARK HAVE TO BABY SIT THE ADMINISTRATION ON THIS ONE? I'M GUESSING THAT CLARK HAD PRIOR CONVERSATION WITH PRINCIPAL MARK NEWELL BEFORE GOING OVER THEIR. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A LAZY MAINTENANCE/ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN MARK NEWELL'S OFFICE PRIOR TO CLARKS ARRIVAL. HE DOESN'T HAVE TIME, ARE YOU KIDDIN ME!!! AS WITH OTHER THINGS THAT RELATE TO SCHOOL HISTORY, BUT THE "HAL-CAP" SIGN!! AS TIME PASSES POOR DECISION MAKING JUST ADS TO THE ERROSION OF WHAT WAS ONCE A PROUD TRADITION. JB, IF IT WASN'T FOR THIS SITE KEEPING US INFORMED, WHO KNOWS!!!!
Hi Bob, I know Mark Newell and he IS a busy guy. If there is a meeting with him, we're interrupted several times because of fires he is quenching. I know the HALCAP sign means alot to us old timers but Mark doesn't know that. I do agree with you that the admin should look at history, tradition, and pride more, and less tear down, throw away, and renew. That's why we have Clark and Jim Sloey, who had Tim Thomas' jersey re-retired. The new admin keeps changing and old traditions keep dying. We are here to continually resurrect those traditions. That is our job. We are the ones who were there and need to keep the new administration on top of these things. In my opinion Mark Newell is the best principal since George Key and will bend over backwards for school spirit, tradition, and pride, but he needs the input, and is getting it from guys like Clark and Jim. Thanks for the concern Bob, you were there too and know what it's all about.

Message: Encouraged by a kind word from our outstanding head cheerleader (Sharon Bierman Branigan), I went to the HHS campus today to find the Halcap plaque if it still existed. Principal Mark Newall was busy so I enlisted the help of the maintenance crew. When the press box was painted months ago the plaque was thrown over the bleachers toward the baseball field. With the help of the entire maintenance crew I located the plaque badly beaten and in need of a paint job and the maintenance guys said it was destined for the trash! I thought it was much smaller, it is about nine feet long. I got permission to take it off campus and refurbish it and maintenance will put it back up..halelujah! John your faith that it would be replaced or put back up was misplaced as currently HHS has no appreciation of heritage or history! I was on a roll so I thought I'd push my luck, I asked the guys to help me find the track record board. Sure enough we found it and it is still intact! It did my heart good to see Dan Dyes record as I did every day for four years at HHS. Tne "Cougar Stalker" seems to be able to locate more than just alumnae! A good day all around!
Clark, you ARE the man, man. Thanks very much for going the extra 30 ft on this one. Glenn Crist has been looking for that record board too. I should hang somewhere on campus. Maybe the gym or back in the cafeteria. Thanks again Clark for rattling the bushes.

Message: First things first...Cougar sighting! Met Kei Nakai(/HHS '72)(today. Nice guy, Keis family owns Hawthorne nursery on El Segundo just west Of Hawthorne Blvd. He told me his family has owned the nursery for 86 years! It is a total of three acres including the auxillary lot on the south side of El Segundo. Big John, I lost count, was that #3477 or 3488?? The stalker strikes again and again and again.....
It's a bunch Clark, that's for sure. Yes I went to school with Jeannie Nakai. We once figured out that Hawthorne Nursery was the oldest same owner business in Hawthorne. My dad went to school with Kei's great grandfather who started the business in the late 20s. Thanks Clark for another great sighting.
