Message: To answer Jake and Judi's question: Angel Flight is a Wooden Cable-car Trolley. It was built to take people on incline rides from the top of the hill to the bottom. Facts about Angel Flight: Opened to Public: 1901 Length of Track: 315 feet, Grade: 33 degrees, To me it looks like an exact replica of The Duguesne Incline in Pittsburgh, PA which was originally designed as a coal hoist but was then used as a freight and passenger Cable-car Trolley after it opened for use on May 20, 1877. Samuel Diesher an engineer originally designed and built most of the incline trolleys through-out the USA. Some Facts about the The Duguesne Incline: Opened to Public: May 20, 1877, Length of Track: 794 feet, Elevation: 400 feet, Grade: 30.5 degrees, Speed: 6 miles per hour, Passenger: Capacity 18 per car I have never been on Angel Flight but I have been on The Duguesne Incline which is a cool ride and once your at the top they have an observation deck which looks over the whole city.

Message: It is the Angels Flight Railway. In May of 1901, Colonel J.W. Eddy received permission for L.A. City Council to build a 'Funicular' (Latin for Incline Railway). Personal note; Prior to the 1996 reopening, one of the archways was missing, which I located in a MTA (old RTD) storage yard.

Message: Hope all you Cougs had a wonderful Christmas as we did. But, my wife and I, are in a disagreement here over a book called Angels Flight by Michael Connelly. She says that Angels flight was a train. I say it was more of a trolley up the hill. Can anyone give me the good news? Or the bad! I know some of you smart Cougars know. It's a trolley...right? MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU! Jake N Jude

Message: As usual JB is right, That padiddle thing was a V.W. and that turned into a slug bug in the 80's. I am glad I didn't win that padiddle prize. The last time I was even close to Alta Loma was the Red Hill Country Club Golf course. I had hit into the rough. When I found my ball it lay about 5' from a 20" long coiled Southern Pacific rattlesnake out for the morning sun.. I thought the signs "beware of Rattle snakes" were a joke. I took the penalty and played on. The Club marshall rangled the snake and moved it to a unpopulated area.

Message: Paddiddle: I was known as the paddiddle queen! AAAAHHH WHAT A GREAT MEMORY THAT WAS. Picture it-the early 60's-driving down the road with your best sweety at night, and coming towards ya is a car with only one headlight working. (this is known as a paddiddle) and it allows you to kiss the boy/girl your with, with no questions asked...and please don't ask me what happens if both headlights are broken. I'd like to remember it as either getting two kisses from my boyfriend or at least a chance to hang your head out the window and yell "turn on your lights!" Merry Christmas (or what ever you may celebrate ) /Happy New year to all and thank you always John for this incredible reconnection to just "everyone." You make life magic & fun. 14 years ago I use to schlep to the Wiseburn library to check out your website, and laugh out loud while sitting under the "silence please" sign. BTW-I can't watch 2013 roll in with the SPORTS PROGRAM DONATION NEEDLE stuck under $5,000--so email me the amount that will take us to that number and I'll send a check. It's really not about the winning or losing, (that would be money donated with strings attached) but about the giving and the lesson because these kids will be our age down the road and they will do the right thing for the right reason for the next set of kids if they see us do it now. They are incredible young people with a lot of hopes and dreams for the future, just as we were once. Al Murphy, I'll do 'anything' for a new VFW attendee, so shoot me your address and I'll come get you on January 20 for the next breakfast--maybe we'll see some paddiddles on the way home. Happy New Year from the Noodlemans!! Jan & Judy Blomsterberg
