Message: Glad to see that needle on the left creep up every so slightly, can't believe we are that far off from last year! Well who knows maybe Santa will kick in at the last minute. Clark, you are starting to scare me and I have begun looking over my shoulder when I venture to the South Bay!! LOL!! Hey John thanks for everything and if it wouldn't offend you or anybody out in Cougar-ville, may I say Merry Christmas to you and all Cougars near and far......
Hi Debbie, Yes Merry Christmas to you and your family. The needle needs some donors all right. Maybe the Cougs are waiting until after the holidays. Fight On!!

Message: Santa's village was a fun place. We first went there around 1955 when my sister was small and continued to visit the place for several years after. Then again when my girls were small. I think our last time was around 1987. With regards to Monkey Island East of Hawthorne, I will be contacting the historical society of La Habra and if I find pics, I will post em.

Message: I am unfamiliar with Monkey Island. Must've been before my time. I do remember Japanese Village & Deer Park in Orange County and Jungleland in Thousand Oaks. There was also Busch Gardens in Van Nuys with bird shows and free beer.
Some great places from the past there Armand, thanks.

Message: I Googled monkey island la habra Calif and some stuff came out about it. I didn't read through it all, but there could be info on it. There was a map on it too. Looks like there were several of them in Calif. I never heard of them. It sounds like a neat place to take the family.
Thanks Jean.

Message: I was wondering if any of you kids from the 50's ever visited a place called "Monkey Island"? It was a little man made lake with a small island and had about 20 or so monkeys living on it. The island was complete with a shelter and bars for the monkeys to swing on. My dad use to stop there on the way to the Santa Ana FWY. I have been looking for the place for years trying to find where it was and if any pics exist. I recently located a site that has some info. Found out it was located on the North East corner of Imperial hwy and Idaho St. in the city of La Habra. I am going to check with the La Habra historical society and see if they have any archives on it. Does anyone remember it?
No I don't remember that Monkey Island but there used to be an island in Lake Henshaw back when the lake had more water in it. I'm talking like the late 40s. It was called Monkey Island.

Message: The "Cougar Stalker" continues to be on a roll finding Cougs! During the holidays I tend to find youngsters working in retail. Having finished my Christmas shopping I was out looking for a few things for myself tonight. Met Maritza Betra(HHS '12) working the fragrance counter at Macys. It staggers my mind that she just graduated six months ago. All you older Cougars be on notice, the Cougar Stalker is looking for you!! Happy Holidays to all Cougs everywhere, near and far!
Clark, what were you doing at the fragrance counter? I just grab a bar of Palmolive Thanks man.

Message: Last Saturday night, Ginny & I again ventured to Live Oak, CA where Pat & Royal Lord live. Each year the Lord's have a big Christmas dinner for their family and since they have moved to Northern California, we have been honored to be included in that gathering. I haven't been the best to stay in touch with my fellow Cougar classmates, but it has been great being reunited with Royal since 2005. He always tells the best stories of the great HHS football games he played in. Most of my memories are from the stands or from the end of the bench. But my one most memorable football memory was when I was playing on the "B" squad. I had missed a tackle at midfield and wound up face down on the sideline. When I looked up I was at the feet of Coach Plum. I don't recall him saying anything but I do remember trying real hard not to miss another tackle.
Hi Mike, Thanks for the story and yes, Royal is one of the best early Cougs around and a very loyal Dodger fan too. Thanks for sharing.

Message: This Morning as we were standing in line at Home Depot, We were approached by this Man asking where he could find the small trees like we had, as Larry was telling him, the Man said you're from Hawthorne I've seen your pictures on Cougartown. He introduced himself to us, Rick McKelvey from the Class of 72. We talked a little bit, was nice talking to him, he said we have to let John know that we had a Cougar Sighting. It was nice meeting you Rick. ALWAYS A COUG! A Merry Christmas to everyone. Also, there are alot of Birthdays in December and my Larry's is this Wednesday 12/13 and he will be 70. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALL THE DECEMBER BABIES.
Great Sighting there Loretta and Lar'. That is how it's done. We are all family here, for sure. Merry Christmas to you and Larry too. Thanks for the sighting.

Message: I was at the Pearl Harbor Memorial recently and based on the number of people there it is not a forgotten historical event. Having been out to the Arizona a few times before I spent my time on the USS Missouri. Good guided tour with all the time you want to wander through the ship. Having the Missouri so close to the Arizona is like viewing the beginning and the end of the events in history that created the "Greatest Generation" at the same time.

Message: Ahhhh, yes, birthdays...we all have them every year; it's just how you cope with the aging process and the fact that we're not teenagers any longer! We all come into this world bald, toothless and in need of a diaper. We leave this world bald, toothless and in need of a diaper. I guess I'm not that old - yet - as I'm only 1 for 3 in those descriptions. I agree with you, too, Wayne: I like the heels of bread, the stockings are hung, waiting for Santa and the blue pill is the Flintstone gummy vitamins! Paco, our generation will not forget Pearl Harbor but I'm afraid the later ones have already sailed on that boat. Just doesn't seem important any longer to teach that in school. However, diversity and social issues are at the top of the list! Janet, Bob and Karen and John - thank you for the kind wishes. And, yes, Judy did give me a break - she let me out of the house last night to go call bingo at the VFW. Now, how do I make that bell she rings disappear without raising too much suspicion? I know, I know, In sickness and in health, blah, blah, blah. She's milking it...and I'm enjoying every minute of it. I love you, too, Tilly.

Message: Early Christmas greetings to everyone! The Razorback Nation's finally gotten a good football coach! How can we go wrong with a former Big Ten noseguard who's taken Wisconsin to three straight Rose Bowls? Deer season's going strong here - venison in the freezer already. Strange weather, however. I'm just waiting fot that first tornado warning. NOT!
Hi Mary Ann, Glad you finally got a coach. Now no complaining after next season and Merry Christmas.

Message: It's not a Cougar sighting, but rather a Cougar conversation. I did an interview with noted jazz historian and HHS alumnus Ted Gioia on the legacy of Dave Brubeck. He's a great guy. I forgot to ask him about another alumnus who is also a jazz musician Dennis Noday.
Hi Keith, Haven't heard from Ted here on the feedback page for about 4 years. I was wondering about him. Thanks very much for the update.

Message: Happy Birthday to my Howie Noodleman, my husband, best friend, fox hole partner and the man that's peeling me grapes as I type this. Some men just give and never ask for anything in return, he is that man. As a birthday gift I'm sending him off to bingo tonight so that he can buy me more pull tabs so I have something else to do tomorrow. If I run out of things to do I'll see if he can give me that Brazilian bikini wax I keep asking for. I think I'm a pretty great wife to think of that. Message: What a great picture of the boys towing Santa and the Little Deuce Coupe! Very clever, John. There is also a short article about Brian Wilson in the December 10th issue of People Magazine. Not much new in it but always good to see something about him. Reminder to everyone: Santa is coming to Hawthorne this Saturday about 5pm. I hear he is coming by fire truck. The Hawthorne Historical Society is hosting visits with St. Nick in front of the old police station on 126th street. There will be music and hot chocolate. Come on down and visit the museum too! Should be a nice event.
Yes, bring the kiddies as Santa will be giving out candy and gifts. As to the picture, Jerry Miles sent it to me and cleverly colorized the black and white. Great job Jer'.
