Message: Hi John---just signed the Beach Boys petition, thanks for putting it on our site. Geeze, Mike just needs to get over it already, life is short!! Paco's new pics are great and man, Paco you are really slimming down!! My check for the HHS fund will be in the mail soon. I was thinking about how much we had when we went to HHS, driver's Ed, PE, Music classes, free buses, new books, full time Nurses, great Faculty. I know the state is broke but these kids deserve to at least have some athletics, it's good for body and soul, not to mention school spirit...have a great reunion and don't forget to post the pics!!
Thanks Deb for the petition signing and for the HHS support. Funny you are the first person, I think, to bring it up and it's been on our site for at least 3 weeks. Fellow Cougars, please help out the HHS athletics program. Our parents were scout leaders, pack leaders, coachs, etc. It's our turn to help out the kids, so please give what you can in support of Cougar athletics. Please click here to donate

Message: Added to the Mike Love pettion: I've been going to Beach Boys concerts for more than 20 years. I've seen you guys in Vegas, El Camino College, LA County Fair, Blockbuster in Devore, CA, just to name a few. All the concerts were dynamite, with one exception. That was one where it was just you, Bruce and a bunch of other guys. That one sucked. If that's where you are headed back to, then I am done. I will continue going to Brian's concerts if he continues to have Al and David with him. But you really need those three.
My thoughts too Ron, thanks.

Message: Well Mike Love is up to his old tricks again. It is reported today that Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and Dave Marks will not be allowed to continue to tour with the Beach Boys. He evidently does not want to share with other seminal members of the group. This was evident even on the 50th Anniversary Tour. I really enjoyed the July 4th Concert in Provo, Utah and I loved all the harmony and great songs, but I am very disappointed that Mike Love chooses to keep the original members from touring together with he and Johnston. The legacy of the Beach Boys deserves better, the fans deserve better and David, Al and Brian deserve better too.
I agree Tom, We need the REAL Beach Boys out there. See more...

Message: We didn't get a fly over in my area of Tennessee, but I did see the Columbia at an air show in the 1970's at Edwards Air Force Base. It was before they made the first launch. I remember very well how spectacular it looked sitting on the top of that 747, the loud rumble, and the screaming crowd. A really historic moment that I will never forget.

Message: Searching back through the Feedback pages last year Judy Blomsterberg announced that we had hit the $10,000 HHS sports donation mark on Oct. 2, 2011. We have a long way to go to hit that number this year. I will discuss my donation with Kathie and be adding our number soon. In the mean time may I suggest that ALL Cougars start planning for next year by socking away $1 a week 'till you are asked to donate. If we could get 4 people from each class to do that we would hit our mark with room to spare.
Thanks Chris, Great idea. Like Coach Chauncey said, "The kids come back to school after the summer vacation and Football is the first thing they see. Football starts the school season. It sets the tone for school spirit and morale for the school year!"
This year please give what you can for the team. These Cougars should have what we had. I can't imagine HHS without sports, especially football.

Message: Went to the Hawthorne Historical Society open meeting at the museum tonight and there was a man there who said he moved to Hawthorne in 1958 and still lives in his house on Menlo just south of 122nd St. I told him I grew up just two blocks west of him on Cedar Av. I asked him if he had any kids that went to HHS and he mentioned his daughter went to Hawthorne and graduated in 1976. His name is Ralph Geele, father of our own Laura Geele Wang. Small world and I guess not a Cougar Sighting but very close. Laura, you have a great dad there and hope Ralph comes back to more of our meetings. By the way, we showed a few of Jerry Miles' videos tonight and Jerry, they were a big hit. Thanks for sharing with our Hawthorne Historical group.

Message: For all the early HHS surfin' crowd, Stephanie Hall Brito HHS61 has gathered all her old 8mm films together and turned them into a DVD which Paco has added to his page. Go to the Happenings|Pacos Pics|Pacos Ctown Event Pics. There are 2 videos (Part1&2) and will be at the bottom of that page. As you can imagine the videos are well worn, coming out of about 1961-62 and the videography is pretty amateur-ish but what 8mm films weren't? To me, it only adds to the film. If you came from that era you'll recognize the stars; Ricki Pritchard, Cody Soares, Marsha Soares, Danny Trepanier, Sharon Schleper, Howard Duran, Bill Brown, Marsha Russell, Mike Weathers, Diane Janson and many many more. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did and thanks Steph and Paco for taking us way back to the good old days of Hawthorne and 26th St.

Message: Speaking of football, I had no luck getting the HHS score in the LA Times on Saturday. I guess no one called it in and today I understand why. The program seems to be reverting back to a couple of years ago. John, do you think it would help to try to go in mass to a game soon so the guys on the team know they aren't in this thing alone? Do you think inviting the team into the class of '62 reunion would be a good idea? Do you know if the team knows about the cash infusion we are trying to make? Do you have an other ideas? Probably should have invited these guys to the coach's birthday party a couple of weeks ago.
Homecoming is October 13th against Morningside. I will be there and yes, maybe we can get a group together for that night. As far as inviting them to a bunch of 68 year old's reunion....think about it Gar', when you were 17, would you want to sit through that event? I'm just sayin'

Message: Clark, Thanks for the caveat about letting my natural excitement over a huge football victory get out of hand. You are right, Stanford has not had the national championships to crow about, but we old farts get excited about our teams, especially when they deliver an old fashioned ass whuppin to one of the best in the nation. You see, there would not be such enthusiasm without the underlying respect for our Pac 12 rivals. The thrill is even better when SC fans assume the game is in the bag because Stanford no longer has Andrew "Triple OT" Luck doing the play calling. Nope, we did it with plain old hard nosed hitting by the Offensive Line and entire Defense. A little history: My college football loyalties started back in the 60s era when my sister attended USC as a journalism student and got a prized interview with OJ Simpson in his first year. My buddies and I used to buy annual season tickets for $10 to see the entire USC home schedule which usually included teams like Notre Dame, Stanford, Miami, UCLA, etc. I cheered for SC over UCLA even though one day I would go on to Stanford and later UCLA. I witnesed incredible, history making games between SC and Notre Dame like Joe Theisman throwing for 576 yards in the rain, but SC winning on the back of their running and passing game. I always loved the rivalry with Stanford because the teams played all out, 500 yard passing attacks which would invariably come down to a field goal or a last minute TD. Yes, I saw that old man Jim Plunkett throw the length of the Coliseum to eek our a last second win during the Rose Bowl years. We were the Indians, back then and proud of it. So you see Clark, my credentials are solid Pac 12 with connections to SC, Stanford, UCLA and even the Cal Bears thru my brother, but I usually wont admit to that. We have HHS Cougar alumni all over the US and I think these games, even with the Oregon Ducks, make for some fun times and opportunities to crow a little when your favorite team comes out on top. Heck, we have to put up with the Nebraska and OU fans with the Sloeys and Greasby's, so why not an occasional proud Stanford Cardinal? So hunker down Clark, get back to those blocking and tackling drills, especially for your Center, and we will see you at the rematch on November 30.
