Message: I am still coming down from the natural high of last nights Beach Boy concert at Harvey's Lake Tahoe in Stateline, NV. The weather could not have been more perfect. The gentleman who sat behind me said this was his 5th 50th Anniversary Tour concert for the Beach Boys. When the concert was over he tapped me on the shoulder and said "This concert tonight was by far the best out of all that I have seen." While I have not been to 5 Anniversary Tour concerts, I did feel I had just witnessed a bit of history. The entire concert was awesome - including the encore. And yes, when they began to sing "Be True To Your School" I couldn't help myself...the music took me over I stood up on my chair and rocked out to the entire song and I didn't care what anybody thought. Their music was all-consuming. Mike Mecey...I had on a red t-shirt that had HAWTHORNE 69 ALUMNI on it - I struck up several conversations because of it but no real Cougar Sighting. And thanks to fellow alumni Steve Santos c/o 76 who works for Ticket Master, he pulled a few strings and upgraded my seat to center stage- 10th row. Thanks again Steve for being so nice. Of the Norcal Cougars who contacted me saying they would be attending this concert I heard from Mike Mecey-'61, Joyce Carpenter Ahlberg-'71, and Steve Santos- '76. I think I probably sang my way thru every song right along with them. At one point I simply closed my eyes so I could just listen - their sound is as always, uncompromising. For those of you who haven't figured this out by now - I have been one of their biggest fans since I was about 12 or 13 and it has never waivered. Last night for me was the icing on the cake, something to cross off my bucket list, history in the making and no one wanted it to end. But as they say, all good things must come to an end and then...'Daddy took the T- bird away'.

Message: For Mike Mecey, I was at the BB's concert in So Lake Tahoe and Anita Bell, CO 69 was there also. Although Dean Torrance didn't perform the last few songs like he did in Irvine, Cal Saga came back on stage a couple of times after their opening show to sing with their fathers. I had the chance to talk to some of the members of Cal Saga this morning in the lobby at Harveys before coming home to let them know how good the show was. I also asked them about Brian not continuing on the tour overseas but they didn't know! You heard it here first on Cougartown News, now back to JB in the computer room!

Message: Hey, Gary Boy, I think prior to this picture, the last time Pat Burris & Norm Steiner were in the same picture was on the old "Al Jarvis" or "LLoyd Thaxton's Dance Party" (sock hop) television show that used to be on I think Channel 13, about a hundred years ago. That was before Dick Clark moved his operation to the west coast and blew them all away. Jorge

Message: Last night (Sunday night) Ginny & I and a few thousand of our closest friends were in South Lake Tahoe... Attending the last US concert of the Beach Boys 50th Reunion... What energy, what fun... We actually got a bonus because California Saga (8 of the Beach Boys kids) came on for 30 minutes before the BB concert began... Three hours of surfin', car racin', bikini beach fun. One of the great crowd pleasers was "Be True To Your School"... Everyone was standing and singing... They showed high school pictures of the BBs... That is when Ginny got her connection to them too. She went to Dorsey High... Same as Mike Love... but graduated a couple years after him. Glad we were able to see them one last time... Saw a couple of HHS shirts but never made it to introduce myself... so I guess that really isn't a true Cougar sighting.

Message: Hey, Jody Weller Girl, You are spot on and it was great seeing you & your sister at John Nix's moms 100 year B-day party. what a great lady, this new Centurian is, I've know Elenore since John & I were in high school and got closer to her after John became my brother-in-law. John, Lenny & the kids did a great job putting everything together. Also, thank you for not telling any "Block & Tackle" stories about us HHS guys that used to hang out there, which would be all of us LOL, when you were on the microphone, I was cringing that you would tell a story on us. About a third of the guys in the above picture were at Elenores party, she knew all of us as kids, and we all probably gave her some distress at one time or another in her life. She always thought we were corrupting little Johnny LOL. Man, it was like being back in H/S, Party after party, the Morris's party the following day, Saturday was also great, saw a few people I had not seen in a while (years). Hey, Jim Fredricks, is there a thing with you firemen about hats, Norm Steiner (Culver City Fireman Ret.), wouldn't take his off either LOL, but I know he's not bald. Hey, Paco, how come no pictures of the wives, they looked just as pretty as they did in H/S and a lot better looking than the guys in the posted picture. While talking with one of the guys at Dennis & Eilene Morris's party, he brought up the name of a classmate that made me laugh. This person got arrested and knew I worked for the Sheriff's Dept., he threw my name out to the jailer who happened to know me. Anyhow, the jailer called me at home, and told me that this guy was throwing my name around like we were relatives. I got on the phone with this individual who I had not seen for some time, he wanted me to "Do him a favor" (get him out). I told him to give me back to the jailer, I asked the jailer to do me a big favor and see that this person got a window seat on the jail transportation bus, so he would have a view, when he got transferred to the main county jail downtown, last time I ever heard from this person, I did do him a favor, I got him a good seat. Ya know the week end also made me think back to the old H/S days and all the parties on the week ends, every week end. We had our own network system back then. At 133 St. "Foster Freeze", there was a parking sign in the rear of the parking lot with a bunch of pins in it and every week end night, Friday, Saturday & sometimes Sunday, there was a bunch of notes pinned to that post that had the steet names where all the parties were to be held. We did not need addresses back then because if you went to the street named in the note, you would see all the recognizable cars and hear the noise from the party and you were there. Come to think of it, our sign post network preceded "Facebook, Twitter, My Space" and all the rest of those computer things, and it was much simpler. Also you didn't have to worry about being hacked, unless someone removed one of the notes from the sign post. Fun thoughts, Jorge

Message: Henry Cooper: I met him but I didn't know him. Everything I heard about him was good and it came from others as I didn't know him. When I came to Hawthorne I heard about Henry and thought he must be some kind of a legend. That too came from others like coaches Yost, Plum, Bunyard, Graves and Featherston as they used his name generically as if to describe a standard they'd have had all adopted. Henry was tough, intensely focused, hard-hitting and played only one way, his way. When I finally saw him in the locker room I wasn't sure if I should shake his hand, get his autograph or salute him. I left it as just saying "Hello." I never knew him. I just heard about him. His opponents that met him under the "Friday night lights" probably prayed they'd never meet him again, fearing they'd once more "bump" into him which surely made a lasting impression, that's if they could even recall the moment of impact. Some probably still suffer from "Tinnitus," compliments of The Cooper Connection. Henry walked with subtle confidence and quiet expression. He, like Gary Beaird, Danny Litton, and a few others let their on-field performances speak for them. There was no need for them to say anything about themselves. I never knew Mr. Cooper but I'm honored to now salute him. God Bless You, Henry.

Went into the hospital Wednesday at LCOM San Pedro with complaints of shortness of breath & feeling faint, thoughts of heart issues came to mind..came out 3 days later with a blood transfusion, 2 pints of blood, & a Bone Marrow Biopsy. Have some kind of Auto-Immune disorder that have Antibodies attacking my red blood cells, will have to wait 2 weeks for results. Am on Predizone 60mg, getting checked in 2 weeks to make sure my red/white blood counts are not below normal. My question is: Does anybody have this condition/disease & can calm my fears? I am freaking out a bit with the steriods that I have to take. Any info would be helpful, just email me. Thanks for letting me post something that is not HHS related, I am just trying to get some help/support & some piece of mind. Thank you so much! Enza

Message: Hey, Therese Cameron Girl, The slang term "GET DOWN" was a late 60's to 70's Ghetto slang term used when a group of folks wanted to dance or do a little Heroin, PCP or Speed, they would say or yell, let's "GET DOWN". That's probably why John Boy was not familiar with the term, it wasn't used much in the 60's. However, some Firemen who were stationed in the Ghetto, picked up & used the term in the 70's. Subsequently, though that's also why there were so many casualties during the war, when someone would yell incoming, "Get Down!!!", they would all stand up and start dancing. Just a little trivia to help clear things up. Jorge
