Message: Had a wonderful visit Saturday with class of '71 besties, Jeanie Bogroff Ganssle and Sally Myers Strunk. Although I have seen each of my friends individually, this was the first time ALL three of us were together since graduation. It was a memorable time for all of us and seemed as if we had never been apart. We were truly inseparable @ HHS. During that visit, we also SKYPED with Chuck Lucero, '70. It was great chatting with Chuck!!!
Thanks Karen, always nice to reconnect with your classmates

Message: It is with a heavy heart that I report of the passing of one of the great people of the class of 1966 #54 Henry Cooper. I shall miss you buddy. Henry was a guy loved by all, an infectious personality that just gave you a good feeling knowing he was your friend. Even Jeff Comer, the huge fullback from Mira Costa liked Henry, someday I shall post that story. Our prayers are with Kathy, Henry's wife, at this time who has requested a few days to mourn. Love you Henry!
Henry, I never met you in person but enjoyed your emails and feedbacks these past years. I do know you are in a better place. Thanks God for Henry Cooper, one of HHS's greatest personalities. Rest in peace, Henry.

Message: I was surprised not to see the term "get down". Several songs have "Get Down!" as their title. We all know the meaning of the term: 'get down and dance', 'Alright!' 'Wow!' 'Get down tonight.' 'Have a blast.' 'It's soo cool to get down.' 'If you want to have fun, you've got to get down, man! Just thought you'd be interested in this comment. I went to Cupertino High, in Cupertino, CA. (Home of Apple Computer, in the Silicon Valley.) Still used today. Just as common as, "cool". Take care, Have a great week. - tlc
Hi Theresa, I believe you're referring to our 60s slang page. "Get Down" was slang, for sure, but really didn't come along until the 70s, maybe you late 60s. Our slang page is what I recall during the early to mid 60s. Thanks for adding to our chat here and come on back anytime.

Message: Hello Cougars; The picture is just fantastic as was the afternoon. That group of people are responsible for some of my happiest memories, both as a kid and a grown up and now an "old timer". Thanks to Ray for the shoe shine memories and inviting Barbara and I to the get together. It's too bad that Karen Fraser is behind the camera instead of in front of it since she's so darned good looking. Thanks to all of you for the Birthday wishes. And to Jerry Rigney (the very first friend I made after moving to Hawthorne in 1955) Happy 71st Birthday to you on the 13th. I hope we get to see each other this summer.

Message: Just had a very unsafe and INSANE 4th of July party at our ranch in Az,! And some great memories came to mind! My cousin Ed Blackburn and i would go out the day after the 4th,with our wagons and collect all the used fireworks from trash cans we could get our hands on! And in some cases we would really score and find some "duds" ( ones that didn't go off) but were still good! THEN LOL! (your gonna love this George!) We would get all the powder out of each and every one. Put into a container (pack it good and tight) And make one hell of a mini explosive! One time we lit one off in my backyard (we had a large yard) And when it blew it blew out all the windows in my Moms green house! (just the north side that is) And Mannnnnnn did i get my butt in a vise for that one!! LOL! And the fun continues! We had a BLAST out at our ranch in Az, with just about every firework you can imagine! The indian res, sells great stuff! Whooo Yaa! In other fun news were on our way to Santa Fe New Mexico to visit family and friends! We just found out that our friends bought tickets for all of us to see the Beach Boys at the Sandia Casino on July 6th, just south of Santa Fe! WOW What a great surprise! We wanted to go to the LA concert but had other obligations ... BTW Cougars .. All my fingers are accounted for LOL! My ears are ringing and I can't hear you George LOL! Enjoy your summer everyone! ADIOS!
Have fun at the concert, Jim

Message: Hello all Cougars. I am doing some family research and need some help from you all. I need to know if any of you from the classes of 58, 59, 60, 61 know of a young lady by the name of Mary Louise Jamison or Mary Louise Montoya. I have checked everyone registered with Cougartown and she is not. She might even be from classes of 62-65. I am just not sure. And we do not have the year books from those years. We only have from 65-69. Sure hope someone can help me.
Good Luck Pauline

Message: Max Roelen, don't know when the Forest Fire turned into a wild fire, but, does anyone know (without looking to wiki) what year the All American Race Indy 500 began running exclusively only Japanese Honda motors to the exclusion of American power plants? That really burns me up!
Not sure exactly. Maybe when GM retired Oldsmobile. I think they were also running Olds and Lexus at one time. I say we get back to Offys

Message: I spoke with Pat Riley yesterday regarding Henry Cooper. He's fighting a form of lymphoma. He's had major surgery already, but before the doctor's can begin an aggressive chemotherapy, Henry needs to regain his strength. The hospital he's in is 150 miles from their home. Henry's wife Kathy could certainly could use a little help, with gas prices the way they are. Pat also mentioned getting cards or personal notes from friends helps keep his morale up. If anyone would like to help out here is the address: Kathy O'Brian PO Box 2423 Redway, Calif. 95560 If you would like more information feel free to contact Pat Riley at (805)550-8066.
Thanks for the information, Cliff, I'm sure Henry has many friends right here.

Message: Attended Stadium of Fire last night in Provo, Utah. Who would have thought we would travel to Utah to see our HHS Beach Boys but we did and it was a great show! They are still rockin' it and they were great. The show was also broadcast to all military bases in the world so I can tell you they got a great show. When they played "Be True to Your School" they flashed the HHS Logo up on the big screens. They also talked about cruising down Hawthorne Blvd. It was a great night!!
Quite a trip from Simi Valley Dawn but know it was worth it. Thanks for the Beach Boys Concert update.

Message: I hope everyone has a bangup Fourth. I'm sure Rich and Mary Sloan will, because, if anyone does, they really know how to throw a party. My nephew, Andrew DeWald, recorded a couple of interesting Beach Boys concerts from the VH1 archives. One, seemingly produced by Al Jardine (or at least narrated by him), is a concert, recorded in England, that proved to me that Dennis really could play drums amazingly and that Carl, as always, showed his virtuosity on guitar. The second, is one of Brian recreating Pet Sounds. Don't know if VH1 will repeat them this July 4th, but if they do, try to catch them. Judy D. B... can't shoot off fireworks (don't want to burn down any vineyards), so can I just donate to the VFW next time I come to breakfast?
Happy 4th Glenn and thanks.
