Message: On the Beach Boy Question of who went to H.H.S. or not. I talked to Beach Boy Bruce Johnston in person, face to face, me and him. He told me he was an alumni of University High School not H.H.S.
I think Cougars get Bruce Johnson HHS60 mixed up with Bruce JohnsTon, Beach Boy. Bruce Johnston was not a graduate of HHS. Thanks Randy for helping out.

Also the pictures of all the famous people who either lived or grew up here, and to see some of the Grand Marshalls from the Hawthorne Parades. Message: Hey, John Boy, Sorry I did not make your Hawthorne party yesterday, guess I got partied out last week end. I left the "T" in the garage and watched the European Open instead, stayed close to home, some incredable golf being played over there. Hope everybody had a great time, sounds like they did. Glad Fireman Jim made it to an event, are you sure he wasn't wearing one of those hats with hair sewn in the rim, you can't trust a fireman ya know, they do sleep on duty LOL. Jorge
George, Sorry you missed the show AND Jim.

Message: Well today i thought i would drop in at the 90th Birthday party of the city of Hawthorne! SURPRISE! Seeing how i had to pick someone up at LAX at 3:00PM I thought i would cruise on over to the gig a few hours early before my pickup at LAX.. The new Hawthorne museum in the old police station was really heart warming! And i must say the last time i was in the police station was the one and only time I've been in jail!! HA HA!(nothing serious) It was also great to run into a few folks i honestly haven't seen in over 40 years or more!! And to see JB and Paco also! Thanks for all you guys do!! The car show was really cool also! (i voted for #29!) After driving around the hood for awhile i realized how nice the weather was! What a huge difference from the San Fernando Valley (West Hills ) where i live. And JB do i get a Cougar sighting for seeing all those old Cougars? including you and Paco ? Ha Ha! You all missed a great Cougar / Hawthorne event! And Judy I'm sorry i missed you! Thank you , Jim
Hi Jim, Great to finally meet you in person. Thanks for coming out to this fun event. Hey George Boy, Jim has more hair than you do LOL LOL.

Message: Henry Cooper played on the Bee football team his freshman year of high school. After a first preseason loss to Bellflower H. S, 13 to 7, the team went on to win every other game except to a league loss to Mira Costa H. S,, 18 to 0. Henry played on the Varsity football team from his sophomore through senior years as the offensive center and a defensive middle linebacker. Despite a disappointing 1963 season, Henry led the league in the most number of defensive tackles, something he would repeat the following two seasons. In the 1964 season, with Coach Hal Chauncey as head coach once again, the team was 8-1-1, losing only to Palos Verdes H. S., 13 to 6, in league. In the first game of the C. I. F. playoffs, Hawthorne tied Santa Barbara H. S. 0 to 0, Santa Barbara advancing on only a single first down more than H. H. S. In the 196, Hawthorne was 6 and 3 for the season, including a sweet revenge win over Long Beach Poly H. S., 20 to 0 in the preseason. Henry was named to the South Bay Daily Breeze All- Bay League team three years in a row and to the Los Angeles Times All-CIF team his senior year. Henry was also on track team his freshman year, and the wrestling team his sophomore through senior year. His father was a U. S. C. graduate and Henry attended their home games as far back as he could remember. He played Babe Ruth baseball and Pop Warner football. During unofficial summer football practices, I remember some of his teammates complaining that despite it being "flag" football, Henry had to be constantly reminded not to tackle the ball carrier. Henry just loved to hit. I am proud to have been considered one of Henry's friends. It is even more special in that our friendship extends back to our grandfathers. His grandfather was an All-American at University of Colorado, Boulder. His grandfather, a physician, delivered my mother and her sister. We discovered this after more than 5 years and it is my favorite "small world" story.
Great stuff Glenn, thanks man.

Message: Hey, John Boy, The above picture ( Pat & Norm ) appears like they were about ready to kiss & make up. Ya gotta watch out for those old firemen, especially the ones with the hats on. All kidding aside, it was a really great day at the Morris's, everybody had a good time, can't wait for the next get together. I told Dennis we better start having them every 6 months or so, because our classes are starting to drop like flyes. Jorge

Message: Many may not know this but the Love brothers', Mike and Stan, father was a real tennis nut almost made the pro circuit. He pushed both boys as youngsters to play tennis and made them practice for hours. They both hated it and were so bad that the way score is kept today in that sport can be attributed to their lack of skills. Stan also played for the Lakers and I believe he and the Ducks beat Alcindor and the Bruins, once.
RE Lew Alcindor era: Outside of the well known Houston loss, unranked USC beat UCLA 46-44.

Then this past Sunday were staying at the El Tovar hotel at the Grand Canyon and i turn on the CBS sunday morning show , And there's the beach boys being interviewed! Message: Just to clear up the loose ends, the confusion stems from the fact the brother of Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love attended Morningside.

Message: JB...I think the confusion with where who went to what school is that yes Mike went to Dorsey, his brother Stan went to Morningside and then a Duck basketball star where he lived and raised his family. Stans son Kevin was a Lake Oswego super star and after a year as a Bruin is now on the olympic team representing the Minnesota Timberwolves where he was drafted. And George, Garys reference to Burco and Steiner in the same pic and the Rocky theme stems from a four fisted tango at the class of 63' 40th reunion. As I remeber it, they were both seriously scolded by referee Barbara Westrope. And JB great news..Cheezeburger in Paradice is once again. Had one yesterday and as good as ever....Later skaters..Hoody1
Robin, Thanks for clearing that, and everything else in the universe, up. The only thing you didn't cover: Is Pete Carroll related to Skip Kelly?

Message: George... I too thought that Love went to Morningside HS... But when they played "Be True To Your School", they showed BBs in their HS pictures; Love had a Dorsey track jersey on... So I looked him up on Wikipedia... It said he went to Dorsey... Does anyone know for sure? I had no connections with the ticket people so I had to sit middle section, Row 30... But I don't think there was a bad seat in the house...
I know for sure. Mike Love went to Dorsey High. Go here for more.

Message: Please don't be offended by my not wearing the Cougartown T-shirt JB. When I started talking about Cougartown.com to the older couple who sat behind me, it took a few minutes before they realized I was not promoting a dating site! We laughed the rest of the evening over that faux pas. And besides, my red t-shirt was a ladies t-shirt.
No offense taken, Anita.
