Message: The class of '77 reunion is right around the corner and not only can I not believe that it's been 35 years, I can't believe all of the people I've lost contact with during that time. How fun to find old friends/peers and laugh for hours about our high school days. Come on all of you 1977 graduates, email Jill McFarlane Jaynes or Michelle Hall Childers and come to the reunion. If high school days weren't your favorite then you can sit at my table and we'll laugh about how lame it was back then. Come and have a good time before we're all too old to get there! John Baker - I think I owe about 10 years of dues here!
Hey Susan, Glad you are back from the dead, girl. Yes, 77ers it's time to ante up. Do not miss your reunions, folks. While we're on the subject, Class of 62, ditto what Susan said. We need you there so sign up before it's too late. Get your money in now and save 20 bucks. Go to the Reunions page for the details. Can't wait to see you ALL in September.

Message: Regarding '66/67 45ish reunion this summer: We have been getting some positive feedback to my last post and the FB HHS Class of 1967 site that I have created. So far the class of '66 is beating '67 about 2 to 1. Don't forget that we have a limited amount of space -- 150 people. So don't wait too long to get your reservation in. John has posted all the necessary information on the reunions page. I never took Home Ec. at HHS. I did have one semester at RH Dana. I did know Miss Saal, though, through my dad. Back in the mid '60's I had typing in one of the home ec. classrooms. A great sign of the times. Women being liberated and entering the work force! It was great though because my desk was stuck in one of the kitchenettes and the teacher could never see if I was looking at my hands. OH, NO! Now that most kids learn "keyboarding" in elementary school, I wonder what they teach in those classrooms now? A few years back when I was still teaching, there was a YouTube sight that I think was called "Shift Happens". It stated that we are training todays students for jobs that won't exist when they enter the work force. And the jobs that will exist -- we have no idea what they will be-- so we can't teach those skills. Amazing.

Hi Chuck, Cougars meet up at the VFW on the 3rd Sunday of the month for breakfast. We have Cruise Nights at Fosters in Hawthorne twice a year. Your class had a super reunion in Palm Springs a couple of years ago. Also check the reunions page for other functions.

Message: Neil, I enjoyed your story about Dane Hurdel and how his life went downhill after his drinking Pendleton kool aid. In fact, we now know the end of the story and that Dane likely lived for years in the proverbial "Van down by the River". It is too bad you could not have arranged a Chris Farley intervention and got rid of that boy's Pendleton addiction! No more living in that Van Down by the River! (you must be a SNL fan from the 1980s to enjoy this joke)

Message: Pendleton Story* A few of us who later attended HHS - went to Lockhaven Christian School on 103rd St. Let's See there was us Larson Kids, The Sweet children , Craig Foster, Rich Greedus, anyway it was back about 1965 when Rich & Craig were in 8th grade. One of the other 8th graders Dane Hurdel lived right across the street from the front of the school. Dane was a trend setter, if Dane started doing something everyone had to copy him...He started wearing an expensive dress Pendleton long sleeve shirt with the sleeves cut and hemmed to make it "cool" like a surfer, My brother & I were startled to discover that Mom would not cut up our wonderful dress wool shirts to have as costume attire for surfing trips. It was just one of those trendy California things. Dane later discovered there were not a whole lot of kids who's parents would allow them to chop up fine clothing to be part of the "IN" Crowd. I also remember Dane Hurdel took a hacksaw to the high rise handlebars on his Schwinn Stingray Bicycle. He chopped them down to about 11 inches wide, just enough width to get the handle grips on. His bike looked sort of foolish big long banana seat & short dragster straight bars on the front, he had to ride all hunched over. Last I recall Dane Hurdel (Lennox Class of 69) was living out on the Colorado River near Lake Havasu.
Thanks for the story, Neil.

Message: Pendletons are my favorite, I have a lot. We have a Pendleton store up here in Lafayette and you have one in Torrance. Although I won't pay $125 for a shirt made in China or Mexico nowadays. They Have them At Knotts also. Smoking jacket from Disneyland takes me back, I bought my last carton of Mapleton or Rum and Maple cigarettes at Disneyland, tasted just so so at best, but the aroma. to die for. I still remember the 1st time I smoked a cigarette at school, in the restroom by the bike racks at Washington in 1957 or 8. I was in Mr Enright's class, and I remember most of the classmates, however in 56-57 I was in Mr Angers class and can't remember anyone, I recall we had a bee hive in the class, there was a tube from the hive to the window so they could come and go, can anyone name classmates? And lastly I quit smoking after 50+ years, I had voicebox cancer and didn't quit, went into Walgreeens to buy my daily 2 packs and they gave me a coupon for a dollar off a ecig and that was it Tobacco free for 6 mos. Great invention, but beware, most of the juice is made in China, the one I use is made in Wisconsin, I won't mention the name on here, but if anyone is interested they can email or call me at 925-798-5284
Thanks Gary

Message: Janet, whoever first mentions the mini-reunion idea has to plan it. So what day shall I save the date haha? But really Anita has become our number one NorCal mini reunion planner but I'm not sure if she is ready for another one already. I know she does read this frequently so... And speaking of Anita and her Pendleton shirts I think JB is right at the $10-20 range. The only place I saw them for over $30 was at the Pendleton shop at Disneyland. If I remember correctly and I think I do, they even had the smoking jacket at the Disney store back then that I remember being about $100. I did go to the link that Anita provided and it mentioned the approved wardrobe of the surfing set. Pendleton worn as a jacket over a t-shirt, white Levis, and low cut black Converse shoes. The only thing I would add to that is that there was a separate group that differed only in the detail that they wore black Purcell's with the blue smiley face on the toe and maybe surfer socks. I still have several of my Pendletons and until recently could still wear them all, surfer style!

Message: Hey Anita, I have a Pendleton that is my favorite "go to" shirt when it is cool or cold. It must be 15 or 20 years old and it still looks like new! They just seem to keep going and going the longer you wear them. Worth every buck I say! And the ladies colors and cuts are ideal for us gals. (I sound like a Pendleton salesman). Maybe I should think about them for the grandkids next Christmas! Hoping there is a No Cal Cougar event this year. Was so sorry to have missed the last one.

Message: Hey, Anita girl; Ya know, in looking at the price on the ad you posted, the price has not really been that exagerated. I think back when I bought my Pendelton shirts & of course you also had to have a Pendelton smokng jacket to wear when you only wore a Penney's Towncraft "T" shirt underneath. I think I paid in the 40.00 to $50.00 range back in the early 60's, the smoking jacket was closer to $100.00 or more I think. So, over the course of 50+ years the prices have not changed that much. Except, LOL, they are probably now made in China with $.08 cents an hour labor. Hey, Fireman Jim, I have not been hibernating, LOL. XOXOXO Jorge
I paid 15 for Pendletons about 1961.
