Message: On the subject of our HHS Football team. Let me remind you that between donations and fund raisers, Cougartown's alumni raised over $10,000 for uniforms and football items for this year's team so that they could get out there and have pride, whether they won or not...but they're really stepping up to the plate by showing everyone what a little "PAY FORWARD" can do. (if Dumbo could fly with a feather, then these kids certainly can win with new uniforms ) I know that they have more things they need and I'm hoping that JB will post the Boosters donation site again in the future. What we had "handed to us" in the 1960's has been taken away from them in the 2000's. (not fair ) Congrats to them for being the next generation of winning Cougs. YOU GO RICK BOURNE!
Hawthorne Football is making a big comeback. They have the coaches, players and equipment to compete now and that's all anyone can ask. For Homecoming we are planning on having a get together in the Cafeteria before the game. We're trying to find a guest speaker and have some refreshments too. I will let you all know in the next few days who will be there, and the time, so please make your plans to come out early for refreshments, a guest speaker, then we'll all go to the game and root on our Cougars.

Message: It is with great sadness that I post the loss of my very dear friend, “Brother-in-Law”, & the loving uncle to my son, Shane Jaqua. Tony Jaqua (Class of ’69) passed away yesterday of an apparent heart attack. He will be deeply missed by all of us for his great sense of humor, his wonderful smile, and his compassion for family and friends. Please pray for his family… especially his mom who has lost 3 sons & a husband in the last few years. Services are pending…but will most likely be held in San Francisco…his home for many years. I will post the arrangements as soon as they are finalized. Rest in Peace, Tony...We love you!
Very sad to lose another Cougar, Karen. Our sincerest condolences to you and the Jaqua family.

Some things are never forgotten and you never, never asked one thing in return. Soooooo... I will give you just one year to get your life in order and get that guest room ready and those Mint Juilips nice and cold and we'll be out there to take you to Paula's Kitchen. Let's see, what is that the Southerners always say... "I'd love ta kiss ya, but I just washed mah hayah." Ciao Bella... gonna miss you blind!! We'll always have Facebook!! Message: Tis the eve of the eve of my departure from CA. I so enjoyed seeing all my wonderful friends at the picnic. Thank you all for your friendship! I was a little disappointed that Clark wasn't there; we've only known each other for 48 years, so I guess it wasn't any big deal to him... (haha) I love you all so much. Thanks for your friendship and fellowship. John, Judy, Janny, Bobby, Billy, Momo, Marsha, Sharon, Cousin Mike, Karen, Bob, Eric! (how fun to meet you and reminisce re younger bro James.... Bloody! I will try to stalk him in Atlanta.) Carmen and Michael, my dear dear friends, and lovely (and hilarious!) Ashley; Sunday, whom I haven't seen for what, 44 years? What a lovely chance to see you again! Glenn, thank you for bringing my fave champagne - er, sodapop - Gloria Ferrer... I truly hope to be there for the crush next year! I am so excited to be discovering a new side of the continent but I will miss my CT friends deeply. Please come see me in ATL, we plan on having lots of visitors to bore to tears with our newfound history of the Civil War and GWTW... Southwest starts serving ATL in Feb 2012 and I happen to have a SW credit card/airline miles... so I expect to be able to come back at least annually if not more often. Please forgive me if I've omitted you; it's been a LONG day of packing and I'm on glass # 2 of Sterling Chardonnay now... and now I have to get to work and find a hotel that accepts pets as my sweet little Boo dog insists on spending the night in the room with me and not in the car... well, it's good to be loved. Thank you all. I have enjoyed every moment and only regret that I didn't do more. Let's stay in touch!!! xoxoxoxox
Well it looks like you and I have come full circle, Sharon. You were one of the first people I met after starting the Cougartown website. That night at Cozymels back in 1998 with sister Sue, Patty and Gloria, George Key, and a few others was a night to remember. Up until then I hadn't met (in person) a soul from the website. That was the night that I thought if I can have this much fun with a random group of Cougars, there must be lots "more funner" Cougs out there......well, I have had many fun times with random Cougar groups but that night at Cozymels stands out as the FIRST (Las Vegas is another story). It set the stage for what was coming at our little Hawthorne social network before we knew what social networks were.
Thanks Sharon for all the good times in the last decade. It seems like little Mikey was about 6 years old when I first met him and now he's looking at Colleges. Thanks too for being our Tshirt Shipper for the last decade. I owe you big time for that. But mostly thank you for being my friend. You may be moving away but friendship knows no distance. Be safe and come back home when you get tired of the humidity and those GIANT BUGS. I love you man, you know I do.

Message: Get your Kindle or PC turned on and get Billy Snyder's book. I am about 18 years older than he and I love it. It is a great picture of the Hawthorne that we all enjoy reliving on Cougartown and it could be a "Christmas Story" type movie. Kudos to you Billy.
You can get The Eight Fingered Criminal's Son here.

Message: John: Hi! It's been awhile since I popped in but I was doing a search and came across a note from Shelly Tomlinson Class of 1978 (here at Cougartown) and she was actually addressing a note to me. She stated she knew Tom - George as well as their mom, Lee. I never responded to her and felt terrible about that. It was an oversight-this feedback was dated back in 2000 if you can believe that. Shelley if you are out there...you are right! I do have some sad news however, Leonelle (Lee) Frankforter (Tom's mother and my fantastic mother-in-law) passed away back in January 2010. Tom and I purchased the family home and now reside here. I love it here. I got to finally meet Loretta & Larry Cuiper up close and personal. They are wonderful people and Loretta is beautiful. We reside in the 5100 block of W 137th Place and if any other Cougars live in this area...I hope to meet you one of these days. I'm an alumni of West High-Torrance but have ALWAYS had a soft spot in my heart for Cougartown because I think this is a great group of people. Tom, is a tug boat captain/crew chief for Foss Maritime. He hangs out with the Seals, Dolphins and Whales in the Pacific Ocean. How cool is that? John, I am so glad you are still at the helm of Cougartown! Regards, Kathy
Hey Kathy, Haven't heard from you in a year or two. Glad you and Tom are still out there. Sounds like you and Larry/Loretta are neighbors now. Tell them I said hey and come on back here anytime.

Message: Hey John, a big hello to you now that an otherwise endless summer is gone and I LOOOOOVEEE YOUUU MAAANNNN! It is now autumn and as they used to say at Harry's Bar, that is a good, thing, for without autumn there would be no writing. And while on the subject I thought I would come directly to this well-worn forum of Hawthornian glitterati especially to congratulate Bill Snyder on successfully kindling The Eight-Fingered Criminal's Son for the entertainment of the many! I think Mr. Goodfellow taught me that writers are like bears, about one every square mile is all the species can stand, but I am always gladdened by the presence of one somewhere in the LA basin. If I can make a recommendation to the readers who have been entertained by the book--if you have kids, make it their required reading for the month. It is really among people in their twenties and even late teens that the reputations of books are steeled, and the younger set is sure to look back on a time before Internet and cellphones with just as much nostalgia as the parents have! For the rest of us, well, we'll always have Paris...and Cougartown--peace and boat drinks, Joseph
Hey Joseph, I know, I HAVE to read this thing. Been getting email from total strangers asking if I've read it or just recommending it. In fact it just went to number 1 on Cougartown's Best Sellers List. Honestly I hope Bill makes it big with this one. ILY2Maaaann

Love it. Judy and Janny it was great seeing you again. Can't wait till the next VFW breakfast. Food is fab. Janny is a great cook. His sausage gravy is the best ever. Thank you John for making all of this possible. Sharon B, you cannot move. I fell in love with Boo. I don't groom anymore, but if you stay, I will groom Boo for free. That is one of the sweetest, smartest dogs I have seen in a while. My poor mutts could take lessons from Boo, although I love them all the same. Thanks again to all for the wonderful day.
Well Sharon, Thank YOU for being there. Now let's all get ready to show up at Halcap on the 14th of October for Homecoming against Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills.....sounds like a well endowed porn queen.

Hey Bill, Sounds like a Haytown read to me. I haven't had the chance to get to it yet, it's next on the list.
