Message: If you ever see a beautiful, joyful Goldendoodle prancing around Holly Glen, it's probably Zach, my sister Patti's (T4) dog. He's in a photo contest about joyful pets, and I have never seen a photo that looks more joyful! The contest ends Thursday, and it's based on voting. You can only vote once, but every vote counts! It's in the #2 spot right now, but keeps switching back and forth with the one in the #1 spot. Please help a COUGAR goldendoodle win this! (Sort by Most Popular to find "Doggie Joy." He's running on the beach with a big stick in his mouth. Thank you so much, Cougs!!
I, and I'm sure many Ctowners, will do that Roni, thanks.

Message: “The best motto is that if you don't want to sag or get wrinkles, gain weight. It's a natural butt/facelift. BTW, how do my butt pictures look?” Judy, your butt looks FANTASTIC! If you noticed, Brother Bill, Pam Fees and I were the only ones participating in “Keep it UP” with our Hula Hoops. Bill Pam and I are at just about the same weight as we were in high school. For Bill and I that is our excuse for all of the wrinkles on our face (Pam looks great) I’m afraid to look at my butt in the mirror because it probably looks like an accordion, speaking of which, where was Wayne Dickey? Congratulations Eric for tearing the most holes in an old tee shirt. You have a lovely wife and I enjoyed meeting and talking to both of you. Lee Ann, I’m so glad you didn’t get lost. I knew my directions were perfect. I’m sorry I didn’t give you instructions from the parking lot to the picnic table. Sunday B, you have GREAT cookies! And to my VBGF, Marsha, it was fun hanging out with you. Sharon B. I’ll see you in Atlanta once you get my bedroom decorated. And Glenn, thanks for the cham-pers!
Yes thanks to all for bringing our picnic snackys.

I know nothing of what you speak.

Message: Just got back home a few hours ago. All I can say is that even though it wasn't a bright sun-shiny day, our group at the park lit up the whole place. It was so much fun-even if I did have to freeze my fingers off (as did Karen) trying to melt that 20 pound block of ice. But, Judy, you win the prize for frozen fingers when you made them. I met some new people and got to know you other guys better. I know that Sharon and her family will do great in Atlanta. And, John, you do, too, know what butt pictures we are talking about.
Thanks Lee Ann for coming all the way down from Vancouver WA. It kinda says something to the people in Orange Co who say they would show up but it's too far to drive Butt pictures? I know nothing.

Message: For those of you who missed the picnic, you missed a really fun day. Lots of good food and drink (thank you Glenn) and congratulations to Eric for winning the frozen t-shirt contest. Lee Ann and I were still trying to defrost ours in the bathroom sink when Judy came to announce the contest had already ended. What a riot. Had some expert Hula Hoopers too. Great conversations and always tons of laughs. Sharon, loved meeting your dog, Boo, and will just say boo hoo to your leaving but you definitely seem very happy and we wish you nothing but Happy Trails! Love to all!

Message: Stephanie, I am reading the book and you do not need a Kindle. I downloaded a free Kindle app for my PC that allows me to read anything in the Kindle format. In fact it is offered on Amazon here. I hope you enjoy the book as I am.
I just downloaded the free app. Very EZ and it works too. Thanks Jer'

Message: RE: THE PICNIC So, where was KISSIN' DAN DYE yesterday?! Lot of fun and got to catch up on all the info on everyone. I'm going to miss you blind Sharon Branigan. There's only one thing to do, I'll give you a year to settle in and get the guest room ready and I'll be out to see you when the Dogwood is in bloom. Please have my Mint Juilip ready for me on the varanda. As for the T-shirt contest, I was surprised Eric Putnam could find the arm holes..the whole t-shirt was filled with holes. You'd think someone yelled "diseased rat" when he started beating that shirt to death. It's a good thing that the t-shirt wasn't the prize. Amazing that some people had more fun with the dry ice in the ice chest than anything else yesterday. ( Larry Reese - don't take that personally ) And lastly, where are all those butt pictures..
Yes it was a fun day all the way around. Thanks again to all who came out. Butt pictures?

Message: Thanks so much to all who came to our Cougartown Picnic today. It is always so much fun to get together with Cougars and just reminisce about our good times in Hawthorne. Thanks very much to our own Barbara Duran for getting the space at Rec park for us.
Eric Putman and wife Janice won Judy Wudy's frozen Tshirt contest. Eric, you DID have the winning strategy, just beat that sucker until it gave up the ice.
Thanks to Rich and Mary Sloan for bringing all the snacks and to Glenn Crist for that great pork roast. All in all I counted about 37 Cougars and their wives/hubbys. Just wanted to thank you all for coming out.
Sharon Bierman Branigan, I know this will be your last Ctown event for a LOOOONNG time, girl. I'm going to miss you SOOOOO much. Have a great life in GA and please come back every once in a while or at least chime in here so we won't know you're gone. There will be pictures on Pacos Pics when Paco gets back from AZ. All in all Cougs, it was a gas. Hope you had fun too and let's do this again next year.

Message: Hey Cougars! I just finished reading Bill (Billy!) Snyder's awesome book about growing up in Hawthorne. It is heart-warming, and chuckle-out-loud entertaining! You can (and should) go to Amazon.com and download it for a five measly bucks. If you are an HHS grad circa mid 70s or thereabouts, you will recognize names. Everyone will recognize places. If you download it, you don't have to have a kindle. You can download apps on any device, including your computer, to read it without a kindle. After you read it, you will want to promote it, just like I am. I sure do love our current environment of technology where talented writers can publish without the politics of begging some publisher. I PROMISE you will enjoy it. OH! You probably want the title. It is called The Eight Fingered Criminal's Son. Enjoy! I did.
Thanks Mandy for the heads up. Sounds like a must read for any Cougar.

Message: Yup, I am definitely coming to the picnic tomorrow! We're gonna play a little "Five Card Cougar No Peekie" game starting at about 11 am, so if you wanna play you better get there around 11, cuz it's first come first served and once they're gone, they're gone! This is probably my last CT picnic for a few years as yes, we are moving to the other side of the continent next weekend, just hope it doesn't cause the country to tip over... I'm looking forward to seeing ALL of you crazy Cougars!
See you and the rest of the Branigan clan tomorrow, Sharon.

Message: So, like I'm freezing 10 t-shirts & "my ass off" and only count 19 names coming to the picnic. If there's a team of 2 people per t-shirt, I'm short 1 person. Are you all sure that you're signing up on your RSVP? Are you making me take my life in my hands slipping and sliding in that walk in freezer...and if I get stuck in there and freeze for nothing, will anyone have the courtesy to say a few kind words about my frozen body?? I'd feel a lot better if there were about 10 more people sign up and show up to warrant all this work. You may be getting a message from my I-phone next if I fall and can't get up in there. Love, Venus Nipples
Judy the trick is to put the Tshirts in the freezer then LEAVE. You don't have to stay in there and watch them. See you all on Saturday at the park.

Found another Cougar last night at 24 hour fitness on Rosecrans! Juan Ceja(2000) ran track at Hawthorne and went on to compete in college for Chico State. It made me sad to think that Hawthorne doesn't really field a track team anymore!

Message: Dear HHS friends of Gary Beaird, Class of 1969 Debbie Reid Elliott informed me, a few hours ago, that Gary had passed away last night. His sister Gail emailed her the news, but did not include any other information. So far, there are no comments about services on Cougartown.com. I know that our prayers all served to help Gary move quietly through his last day, and onto a new life full of freedom from earth's weights, and on to new heights of spiritual enlightenment. Now, would you please put your love and enthusiasm for having shared some part of your life with Gary, into supporting his family in their time of sorrow and grief. I am convinced from the loss of my own husband and son, a few years ago, and my subsequent "moments of grace," that they are doing very well with our Father in Heaven, and that it is we, those left behind, who suffer so deeply their departures, until we understand that "Life is eternal, we should find this out and begin the demonstration thereof." M.B. Eddy For myself, I remember so clearly, at our 40th Reunion, seeing a guy who was sitting on a short brick wall, surrounded by lots of people, and thinking to myself "who is that guy who is so much the center of attention?" As I walked over to the group I knew I did not recognize him. Then, this wonderful human thing happened- as I moved closer to hear his voice and I knew instantly, the voice of my dear friend, flag football teammate of 7th & 8th. grade, and HHS football star- Gary Beaird! Quite shocked I yelled: "Gary!" He looked over and yelled: "Kristy!" And then, after about 30 years, we did the hugs and kisses, and I joined the happy throng of Gary Beaird admirers'. So, Gary left us early, in my estimation, but he left with a legacy of great admiration and esteem from lots of people, in lots of places. And HHS was graced by Gary's life, and talent, and boyhood pranks turned into life lessons worth living for. God Bless you, dear friend, Kristy Rice Wakefield
