Message: Well, guys, I'm not driving down there from Vancouver this time. That probably won't happen too many times again, if ever. I'm flying and I hope my wings don't get too tired. I am coming in on Thursday and hope to see some blue whales off of Redondo Beach while I'm there if they're still around.
Hey Lee Ann, see you Saturday at the park. Thanks for coming down.

Message: I'm writing this for all of Bill Cusac's family and friends. We had his memorial last Saturday, Sept 17, 2011. The church was full over a 100 people. It's not the same here without him. I know Billy loved coming onto his Cougartown website. Thank you all for your comments and love towards myself, our children and grandchildren. Every sickness Billy had and finally took his life was all due to his 2 tours in Viet Nam. Take care of your loved ones because life is just too short. Blessings, Ester Cusac and family

Message: In my ongoing quest to get people to tell embarrassing stories; I have a new game. A story and a selection of Cougars: Who said, when asked, what was wrong with the four (4) legged chicken in Biology class, " I think the back legs are too short" Was it Bill Schultz.......soon to be our new councilman Pat Burris....winner of his last two fights at reunions or Corlis Mouland........space scientist?
Hey Gary, I will guess and say it was our "soon to be" new Hawthorne City Councilman, Bill Shultz.

Message: Thank you, Billy for the news and hospital name. Last year when "Just Go with It" was filming on Wailea Beach, it seemed like every camerman, prop guy and stage hand knew Gary and all spoke rightfully highly of him. He's truly a favorite and I'll go with the "Prayer Power" big time on this one. Please keep the posts updated on him. Thanks, Jim

Message: Thanks to all the Cougars who came out to the VFW breakfast this morning. Your continued support of this event does help us in funding our veterans programs. And while I'm plugging the Post - thank you, John - we do have Monday Night Football in the canteen, along with burgers and hot dogs from the bar-b-q, chili, chips and your favorite beverage. Burgers or dogs are $3.50 a plate...another real good deal. Wednesday, September 28 we're having a day bus trip to Pechanga Casino in Temecula. We've filled up one bus already and we're working on a second and $15.00 is what it will cost you with $10.00 returned to you by the casino. If you're interested call my cell number: 310-897-7655 and we'll sign you up. We need twenty more riders to make this second bus happen. AND, lastly, bingo is played at the VFW every Friday night starting at 6:30. You've heard Judy tell you about her raffles, now I'm telling or asking you to come join us. All our events are fundraisers for our veteran programs. Your helping us helps our vets. Thanks again for your support. And Denny, I'll try not to break your eggs next month! Semper Fi...Janny
Thanks Jan for the heads up and for the great breakfast this morning. I'm sure Cougars living in the area would like to join in the fun and it's good to know it's all for a very worthy cause, our VETS. Not much of a gambler but I do like MNF so you may see me there for the hot dogs and burgers.

Everything will be ok, we are thinking about you! Glenn, glad to see you will be coming down for the picnic and can't wait to see you, Tom Shelley! It will be a great day.

Message: Well Glenn, we either "never" hear from you..or you take up a page. But you're right, 9 people to the picnic isn't equalling out to my 10 pails of frozen T-shirts. If I put a 10 dollar bill in each ice block will that stir up some action? I can only imagine that if more people don't sign up for the picnic that there won't be one & I'll be stuck thawing out ice blocks all week.
As for the VFW breakfast tomorrow (Sunday) the hubby will be in the back kitchen cooking and I'll be in the front, serving. If that visual doesn't bring you out, then I'll tape a 10 dollar bill to the bottom of each plate. (boy - tuff crowd ) These events are sending me to the poor house. I'll have to get a night job just to break even.
We'll see how the picnic attendance goes. If we don't have enough by Wednesday we'll cancel it. Maybe we need a Facebook page to advertise the picnic

Message: Come on Cougartowners. So far, I see nine people have RSVP'd for "The Picnic." Heck we might as well hold it in JB's backyard. I could throw an extra case of bubbly in the truck and none of us would probably surface until Monday afternoon. Everyone (JB included) knows I'm only kidding here, right? I hated (and I guess pretty much everyone else might have as well) the family reunions where all the elderly relatives said, "My, you sure have grown since last year." But in fact, this is possibly the final opportunity this Fall to get together with old and new Cougar friends. And, besides, it also may be the very last chance for us to see Mike and Sharon Bierman Branigan until we crash their "right coast" digs with a Cougartown sleep over. On another note, speaking of poor showings, the "Where We Lived" map seems as if everyone is out of town. I know Fall is a great time for we older Cougars to travel. John announced the Neighborhood project and CT lit up like a Christmas tree, I hadn't seen in a long time. But after he put up the most impressive and elegant map and sector map, it seems to have returned to "naptime T. V." Looking at sectors with the addresses that have been posted, show about a dozen families having lived in each sector. That brings the total graduating from HHS (in it's roughly 57 year history) to around 240. And, O. K., even if you adjust that by an average family size of say a factor of 2.5 children per family, and multiply that out, it brings the total to 600. JB, would you mind if CT'ers add siblings, friends and neighbors. It would probably be best if the folks you add don't mind, as well. John has created this really unique map app for Cougartown, once again making it the best HS website in the world. Thanks, JB.
Well thank you Glenn and yes, if you want to add friends who went to HHS to our maps, go right ahead IF they don't live there now, OR if you get their permission. The Picnic? Kind of slow on the RSVPs. We'll see how it goes.

Message: OK, here's the plan for today...eat lightly, make yourself hungry and then tomorrow come join us at the VFW for breakfast. There's plenty of food...big portions...tasty, I might add...and you would be helping the Post with our programs to help other veterans. I promise not to serve you any broken eggs...unless you specify you want them that way. Some people are funny that way, you know what I mean? Tilly brought home a sample of the frozen t-shirts contest for next week's CT picnic. The shirt is encased in seven inches of ice...something akin to James Arness's role in "The Thing." Good luck getting to those shirts. Your hands will freeze before you're even close to getting to the shirt! See you tomorrow at breakfast and next Saturday at the picnic. Come hungry for both. Semper Fi...Janny
Hey Janny, We'll be there and I have to say the breakfast has been great in the last few months. Keep it up.

Message: Beach Boys News Alert -The Beach Boys have been added to the 2011 class of the California Hall of Fame. The announcement came last week after their selection thereto was made by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. and First Lady Anne Brown. The legendary surf rockers were from Hawthorne, California, which is just south of Los Angeles. Many of their songs included nods to 1960s So-Cal culture. In a statement, the Hall of Fame says that it honors Californians "who have made monumental achievements across a variety of disciplines."
