Message: Cougar sighting. Today I was attending a Geology Class on Geology of PV Peninsula...and the teacher was D.D. Trent. His presentation was top notch and he was very on top of things....a real pleasure....and I wondered if all of our teachers are still great. We were lucky to have such fine teachers in all departments. I wish they could all know that.
You just told them Steph, thanks.

Message: RE: THE PICNIC & T-SHIRT FREEZING UPDATE: Was Testing a couple out in the 20 sub-0 blast freezers at work..... found out today that if the bottom of your tennis shoes are wet, you eventually get stuck in the middle of the freezer until someone comes in to get you out. (somehow I can hear Bobby Jensen using the word Venus nipples here) I only have 10 more days to get this right. Pray for me.
Take a telephone in there with you Judy, otherwise it could be a long winter.

Message: I just thought that I would mention that Recreation Park in El Segundo has a map address of 401 Sheldon Street but we always gather at the north side of the park at the corner of Guaymas Way (driveway into the north end of the park) and Pine Avenue. There is plenty of parking in the lot or on the street. At our last event at Tony's there were a few people who could not locate Tony's on their GPS. We don't want anyone to miss out on Judy's frozen Tees! And if you don't want to pack your lunch you can always run over to Cooks Market at the corner of Grand Avenue and Richmond Street and pick up lunch. Cooks is El Segundo's version of Whole Foods.
Thanks Bob

Message: John, once again, thanks for keeping up this site, so that HHS memories can keep some of us "in the pink." It was sad to read of Ricky Mecca's passing, as we were friends since Kindergarten. But, thanks to your "Feedback" I was able to send an email to his family, highlighting some happy times in Hawthorne. Also, I was grateful to have been able to share a little time with Joe Norcross at the NorCal Reunion, just a few months ago. He was one of life's marvels- kindness personified. And, what a delightful, caring woman his wife is. We have been 'touched by an angel' in knowing Joe. I will be sorry to miss the Reunion, but will be in New York at a wedding. Please give Kathy & Harry a hug for me.
Hi Kristen, Well....Kathy is going to be gone on vacation too so I'll give Harry a hug for you

Message: PICNIC.....Re: starched bras. Hey Bobby Jensen..Not fair...I haven't starched and ironed my bra into a point since high school. I stopped that when I crossed over into underwires. I've started to work on the thickness of the ice block for the t-shirts and it's all very scientific.. wet down/freeze - ditto-ditto-ditto! I dare anyone to get that t-shirt out of it's block of ice within 15 minutes or I'll give away a free trip to Hawaii and or a pointed starched bra. Some how I think they'll pick the trip to Hawaii.
I've been to Hawaii, I want the bra.

Message: Haven't been on the computer in about two weeks. My honey, Jim, came through his cancer surgery with flying colors. They removed his right kidney. It was contained only to that kidney and he is recovering wonderfully. It was done laproscopically on Sept 1. He's doing very, very well. So I don't have to cancel my trip to Maui on the 16th. I was not going to go, but he can drive and is not on pain meds. What a blessing. I have to catch up on CT. Haven't checked my e-mail yet. I guess I'll have to check and see what Cougar is stranded out of the US and needs money. I'll send it right away. Yea, right! Really happy to hear that our Cougars started the season with a winning game. That should give them some major inspiration. Good work guys, and great coaching. Go Cougs!!!!
Hey Sharon, Good news for sure.

Message: I hope everyone is ready for the Cougartown Picnic coming up in the next few weeks. We are all working on activities for everyone to participate in. Judy is freezing her tee shirts. The B Girls are putting together some new games, I think one of them involves spinning a bottle and I am sponsoring "Keep It Up". We are going to see how long you can keep it up - Judy, no fair starching your brassiere, Japan once banned this activity because the rotating hip action seemed indecent. Maybe we can get Wayne Dickey to play "Lady in Spain I Adore You" to keep you in the mood. Hope to see lots of you at this fine event on September 24th.
It's gonna be fun, Bob and thanks for the help.

Message: John, home coming game on Friday and home coming dance on Saturday? I remember what worked for me was to limp into the dance after the game. That would not work anymore. How about an alumni section at the game with a $10.00 cover charge to sit there. An extra 100 people would bring an extra $1,000.00 to the program.
Hey Gary, On the other hand, I am of the opinion that our Alumni have most graciously given almost $11,000 to the program just this year and deserve to be treated like Cougar royalty.

Message: Just tried to add my address when I lived in Hawthorne, but I do not know my sector #. My brother Newell (1963) and I lived at 625 W. 137th Street. Our house is no longer there as it is a park! I think there is a handball court where my bedroom was. The park is adjacent to Ramona Elementary school between Ramona Avenue and Inglewood Avenue. John, I am sure you will help me with the sector #. Thanks!
Hi Maurine, 137th St between Ramona and Inglewood Av would be sector 12. Thanks for adding your address.

Message: OK Cougs, it's time to start talking about our Cougartown Picnic coming up on the 24th. Judy is freezing her Tshirts and is planning on a big turnout at the VFW breakfast on September 18th. Sharon and Sue are cooking up a surprise game. It's only 3 Saturdays from now and I think we should have another food challenge too. We've done the Chocolate cake and the Chili and Salsa thing so what else would be a fun challenge? It would have to be something cooked or prepared at home AND something everyone can eat. Let us know your ideas.
Also, for everyone waiting for Cougartown Tshirts, they will be ready next week. If you are going to be at the Picnic, save the 4 bucks shipping and I'll bring them with me. Let me know and let's have a great turnout this year.

Message: Hey, dennis;LOL, How's little Mu Shu Pork Campbell doing ?, will we see him in the "Little League world Series" next year, I hear you're training him to be a catcher. You left out of town on September 1st, when I was in "Hoag Orthopedic Hospital" on sand Canyon & 405 Fwy., for my R/knee replacement, didn't get a chance to call & say have a safe trip. Dennis's darlin wife Eilene swears that Dennis has another family over in China, because he goes there so often, that's the reason for the Mu Shu crack. It's been 9 days since the knee replacement and the swelling is starting to go down. I hope to be playing golf by November 2nd, when Arlene & I return to Palm desert for the season. If anybody needs a great knee or hip doctor, I have one of the best, Dr. Mikulak his sports medicine group works out of Newport Beach. Jorge
Glad to have you back, Jorge.

Message: Cougar sights an Olympian! Met Jim Mitchell, LHS class of 56 today- he and his wife stopped by to view our house-for-sale. His brother Jerry graduated HHS in 1954. I think he said the boundaries were changed and that's why he ended up at Leuzinger instead. I told him about CT and asked him to tell Jerry about it, too; also encouraged them to go to the picnic on the 24th. I hope they meet up with some of their old pals via CT!
Hey thanks Sharon, great sighting. See you and lots of Cougs and maybe an Oly or 2 at the picnic.

Message: I don't get it. Last week I got an email from Millie Roberts asking for $1800.00 to be sent to Spain, where she was vacationing and got her purse stolen. This mornig I get an email from Sherry Wingo asking for the same thing, same amount, only to be sent to England. Why don't you people just stay home!!!!! And here's' some good advise, get a back pack, they'd have to steal you with the purse to get anything. (somehow I can hear JB saying it wouldn't be worth it.)
