Message: To Vicki Baur Aliabadi, Happy Birthday. Seeing as you're the only one on the birthday list (well not really a LIST) today and your name just keeps going across the screen all by itself, you might be feeling lonely, so a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY from EVERYONE in Cougartown. Now, don't you feel special?

Message: Hey Jim Schroeder. You are probably right. Sector 3 was more like a party-town than a boxing ring. But thanks for the news on Tim Fye. If you are correct, that was one of the biggest personality changes I have ever heard of. He lived behind me for a few years, and he was a thug with a heart of stone. I think he was in my class (1968), but as poorly as he did in the classes I shared with him, I'm not sure if or when he graduated. It always saddens me to hear of anyone's passing, so RIP Tim Fye.

When and where Lefty-if we aren't on time you may start without us. I suggest croquet.

Message: John, I submitted my info for the sectors I lived in. Sector 10 my first year at HHS. Then sector 14 for the last three. I'm curious now because I can't remember the addresses I thought I'd never forget. Going to have to drive by this weekend and check it out. This is a lot of fun. Can't wait to see where everyone lived when the project is finished. Thanks, John.
Thanks Sharon, and thanks to all for adding your information.

Message: I bet my sector (13) could beat up your sector! 11824 Freeman. The street was named for all men who are free. On the even side of the street resided HHS grads Bill & Charles Holland - Adele & Bobby Mayfield -- Jan & Ted Jolly were down closer to 119th. We had an intense rivalry with the odd numbered side of the street. They were a strange lot. My brother (JB) and I would always get our trash cans out before they even thought about it. Does anyone recall when the city began it's fascist, "move your car so we can sweep the street program!" I fell pry to that fund raiser on occasion. And a final FYI -- contrary to popular belief -- Timmy Fye, the thug with a heart of gold, is not in prison. He found religion and then died. RIP
Really, did he die, what class?

Message: I'm a sector 3 person. It seems Dean Morris and I hung out in the same neighborhood. The Richards, Sayads and Duffys(next door) lived on my street. I was in the Army when Dean was partying there tho. When I entered my address in your new database, I put north-south as the direction of the street, but in fact it was both north-south and east-west. It was a semi-circular loop off 134th Street. Dean was right about one of the neighborhood troublemakers. I ran into Tim Fye in 1972 or 1973. He had just got out of prison. I'm sure it was the first visit of many for him.

Message: John, on the new map thingy (which I really like) when you ask how long someone lived there, do you mean me or how long my family lived there? I moved out years before my parents. Carole
Hi Carole, I am glad you asked that question. In the beginning I meant how long did YOU live in the house. Now I'm finding out that people had siblings and it's turning into a nightmare, not only adding all these brothers and sisters to the message box but they all left home at different times. I would like to change that to, "How long did your family live there", from the time mom and dad bought the house to when the last family member sold it to another family.

Message: Sector 3, baby, the western fringe of Hawthorne so close to the beach you could see the breakers from the top of the Morris garage. Sector 3 and 4 constituted Holly Glen, a fabulous neighborhood with four schools up to Dana all within a couple of blocks. Holly Glen Park was a real park where everyone gathered in the Summer especially (our version of the Cheers Bar). Sector 3 Hall of Famers included the Morris brothers and sister Marilyn; The Bryan dynasty; amazing Fowler flock with two football studs, two brother MDs and Tennessee Twosom parents John and Robin; Mike and Jerry Scott and their tough SOB Dad Warren who hit major league infield to us to prepare us for the future; Mike and Gary Nielsen and their garage hockey league; Fred, Jim and Mary Richards who threw the best pool parties; the big Kahuna David Sayad and the 133rd Street West Gang who hosted summer street baseball league; the Duffy Tennis clan; Paco the Body and sister Barbara; the one and only Bill Tamburrino who was our Adrian Kronaer, Bob and Alan Gunnin and amazing Betty Gunnin, all time favorite cafeteria cook at Dana, Bob and Dick Toth, Kings of Tennis and Swimming. And that folks was all from the small Sector 3. Sector 4 was equally impressive, but someone else will have to speak for my former Herald Examiner paper route- hint; this Sector gave us Keith Jones, Tracy Jones, Mike Colbern and Sis Debbie, the Lococo Clan with the best pair of left handed hitters around and last, but not least, the home of Hawthorne Wiseburn and National Little Leagues (old and modern era) and National Middle League, rival of Hawthorne American over many decades. What a place!
Dean, Sector 14 had storm drains and a Good Humor man.

Last weekend Kathie and I were in Duxbury, Massachusetts for the Alden Kindred annual meeting (Alden Kindred are descendants of John and Priscilla Alden of Mayflower fame). Before leaving for the event I contacted Adrian (c/o '67) and Renee Reynolds to arrange a meeting. We had a brief but nice visit.

Message: Howdy JB~ Just submitted my info on where I lived during my years in Hawthorne. Sophomore thru Senior years were in Sector 3 but I think my favorite house was in sector 4 on 139th Street from Kindergarten thru 3rd grade. I drove by that house when I was down for cruise night last August and whoever owns it now really has it looking pretty spiffy if I do say. I would love to be able to walk thru it again and I know my Dad would be really pleased as well at how nicely it has been maintained.
Hey Anita, Yes I would love to walk through our old Spanish style house on Cedar too. I'm sure I wouldn't recognize it on the inside. Thanks for adding your information too. Lots of people still need to add their info. Have about 50 houses so far.

Message: Great idea John. Our first residence when we moved to Hawthorne was on 133rd just east of Inglewood Ave. The house is gone now, it was white and had a little pond on the side with a windmill. We then moved to section 8 (5154 W 136th St) between the Wilkings and the Aronsons. Lived there until I married then we had a house in section 1 on 115th between Judah and Isis. Lived there for two years then moved out of Hawthorne.
Thanks Billine, it will be fun.

Just click the little yellow man and drag him to your desired location. Not all streets will come up. I went cruising on google maps down Hawthorne Blvd,! And was amazed at what's not changed and what has! Still a great city! Have fun!

Message: I was class of 66 Leuzinger (sorry). But more importantly, my sister-in-law is Carol Singleton. She graduated from Hawthorne HS in 64. She and her sisters went there (Marie and Mary) Boy, were those the days, A&W, Shelby Showroom, and I drove a 59 VW. Laugh, its worth about 10k now. Not bad for a $1900 car. If you remember Steve Eide, class of 66 Hawthorne, he is in Alexandria, Va. now. Carol is in the N Idaho area (beautiful country) and doing well. She married my brother Douglas Hudson. Would love to talk to anyone from that area and time. TO ALL THE RVN VETS, WELCOME HOME! I was Phubai 1970 ASA Army (Stayed for the 20) Charles
Hey Charles, thanks for the note. Steve Eide checks in here regularly. Come on back and join in anytime as Leuzinger grads along with anyone else in our area are welcome to chime in and tell stories from their high school days.

Message: Lived in Section 9 11894 S. Truro Ave. My parents moved there in 1938 and the house was originally only 640 sq ft. and they paid big money for it, $4,000.00 haha! When the big tornado hit in 1967 I believe, a section of an apartment roof close to 120th st was in our driveway. All in all, it was a great neighborhood to grow up in. Great Memories!
Thanks Paul
