Message: Actually, when we moved to 118th Street my brother was around 3. I was around 2 and I went around to our new neighoborhood telling everyone my mom just got out of jail. This may explain my brother's abherrant behavior regarding breaking the law on Hawthorne Blvd. Then again, maybe my mom was visiting her probation officer during that time. There must have been some mysterious force on that street at the time that turned our family into hoodlums.

Message: Let's see now, I think I lived in the same Sectors as Ernie Nixon, as I recall. Yep, Sector 9 and Sector 9. My brother's ride on the wild side on Hawthorne Blvd is legend in our family. Kelly, our cousin, found him, after he heard numerous car tire screeches on the Blvd. Went and picked him up, along with his tricycle, and brought him home to our Mom, who thought Ernie was in the house while she was taking a nap.
While mom sleeps, Ernie cruises Thanks Lee Ann

Message: I was in Sector 13 tonight at dinnertime meeting with a real estate client who is selling a house. On my way home I was going west on El Segundo past the high school (sector6) and noticed an open gate. Curiosity got the best of me because any construction should be taking place in August. Sure enough the girls locker room is about five piles of dirt and gravel and they must have had some extra bulldozer time because they ripped out the amphitheatre podium we built in '76 just south of the boys gym. I guess it wasn't being used for anything except grafitti nowadays.
Yep the girls locker room went down 2 or 3 weeks ago. Much more to go too.

Message: A sad note of thanks today to all of my Cougar friends who have been praying for, and supporting my family these past several months. My dad, Edward Robert Melendrez, passed peacefully this morning at the age of 84. He was a tough, gentle, soft-spoken man who carried the highest code of honesty and ethics of anyone I have ever known. Family guy, car guy, music guy, proud Navy vet, and most of all, my hero. Thank you all for your phone calls, e-mails, your wisdom and your support. Cougars are the best! Thanks again, RSM '71
Hey Bob, so sorry to hear your news. Very tough to lose a best friend like a father. Our sincerest condolences to you and your family and friends of your father.

Message: Great idea John! Thanks! I lived in Sector 10 at 245 North Eucalyptus Avenue, a block (or so) away from good old HHS from 1952 through 1963. They eventually tore down our house and put in apartments. Yup! I was almost under the old green water tower and right across the street from the City Yard. Drew a small circle on that old cinderblock wall and practiced pitching. I practiced so much, I could pitch a strike 9 times out of 10 ... just didn't have the speed I needed to be really good, but pitched great batting practice!! ha!
Thanks Doris

Message: Boy o boy, this is an idea whose time has come, huh? Everyone’s jumping in with sectors and three digit addresses and such. I think we dotted the map pretty well, my first recollection is 115th and Doty (Sector 17) in a house behind a house, and on an alley. Heck, I was a nubbin then. I think that’s where we were when JFK’s funeral was held... I remember it on TV in black and white, and mom crying... I was 5. I guess we all had the day off school? I’m sure you upperclass folks will inform me. Then we moved to Gardena for a year where I suffered under the tutelage of Mrs. Alba, who told me that I had to do my homework over and color the apple INSIDE the lines; apparently only very naughty children colored outside the lines. Oh... I think I just made a major breakthrough on why I always have to push the lines... Then back to Hawthorne and Sector 13 at 118th and Oxford. Sue, is this right? Sue has an excellent memory whereas I have apparently managed to erase most of my hard drive... several times... Then Oregon for a year where we had 2 different school opportunities... then back to Sector 17 at 3755 W 115th (and Doty) and then Sector 4 at 137th Pl and Isis/Hollyglen. Do we win a prize for covering the most sectors? Steve told me he made 22 school changes before high school- I can believe it; I think I counted 14 for myself.
The Biermans were always one step ahead of the law. When I get the address page going it's not mandatory to list every house you ever lived in. 1 to 3 will do. I was very lucky to have started Kindergarten at York and ended my Senior year at HHS from the very same house.

Message: I was in sector 17 right on Imperial Hwy. 3866 just east of Prairie. The house is long gone, thank goodness. We were in the Hawthorne district for just one year, the first. My sister Lorraine got in Hawthorne. The next year they changed the boundries so we were now in Leuzingers district but since my sis was already at Hawthorne, I got to go there too. Most of the other kids that lived around me went to Leuzinger.

Message: Section 9, 566 North Ramona. Just north of the Cavenaugh's, Reading's, and Gary Miller. In fact, I used to take care of the Reading's yard. Before that, section 9 again, I believe it was 102 West 118th, just behind the Shell station on Hawthorne Blvd. Which reminds me of a story my mom told me of the time our cousin, Kelly Newill, knocked at our front door with me under one arm and my tricycle in the other. It seems that Kelly, who owned the Shell station, found me in the intersection of 118th and Hawthorne Blvd. on my trike, I was about 2. Thanks, John.
You could ride trikes in the street in those days Ernie Hey, how about changing your email address on the Ctown Info System? I tried to email you and it came back.
