Message: Well, John, that gives me 5 months to save up for the plane ticket and a place to stay. Hope airline tickets go down in price sometime soon. Thanks for the heads up and if I can, I would love to come. I've never been to an HHS picnic and it sounds like it would be great fun. Nice transition from my post.
See you there, Lee Ann

Message: I don't know how anyone can read Coach's letter and NOT want to be an athletic supporter! Laura Geele, my dear friend that I have known since Kindergarden at York School, I'm so glad to see you and Dave here! And Jaime, Keith Jones' daughter, thank YOU for taking the time to donate on behalf of your dad's memory. He was such a character; and he would be proud to be a part of this effort! I'm looking for more ways to support the team through the Booster's club. They are planning a silent auction and so I'm going through my "gift closet" looking for things to donate. I'll bet most everyone has a "gift closet" where they keep those things that are new and unused, that they don't need, but that are too good to give away? Well, go dig 'em out, and contact Sonja at the Booster's club and arrange to donate them. It's tax deductible, too; so take the opportunity to make a difference in a young Cougar's life, and get a reward of your own. And as for the Cougartown Picnic, I can hardly wait! I hear we are gonna have some great games and contests this year!! Any party with Judy Wudy is a party I wanna be a part of!
Thanks Sharon, Yes I will donate something from my gift closet too, but save something for the Cougartown Picnic as I think we'll have a raffle or silent auction too. Also, if you donate a gift to a (501)c3 non-profit group like HHS Boosters or Hawthorne Historical, it is tax deductible.

Message: Another post to say thanks to Greg, April, Glenn, and Dee for their hard work. Of course, there were others who pitched in as well and it all made for a tremendously successful reunion. I had to laugh when there was a small group of us sitting around on Sat. morning thinking that we might like to do something - like maybe go up on the Aerial Tram. Then, one by one, we came up with excuses not to go-like it was too hot, too much walking, too cold at the top, too scary, too far away, getting too late, etc. Then, someone said why don't we just keep sitting around and keep talking? And that's what we all ended up doing and it was just great. Seeing old friends was just the best. It will be a memory never to be forgotten.
Great time Lee Ann, thanks for coming down. Now how are you going to justify coming back for cool segway here September's Cougartown Picnic? Our Picnic BTW, will be the 24th of September this year. We've got lots of things planned already so please mark your calendars. I will add the particulars in a few days as we iron them out.

Message: Hats are off to the committee members ( April - Glenn - Delores & Gregg ) that hosted the '64 reunion in Palm Desert last weekend. I laughed at everyone because we all had to look at the other's graduation picture/badge name to see who was who. All the girls had badge pictures from '64 with teased hair, side flip, with side bangs.....in other words, we were all Annette Funicello. The boys all had short hair..in other words they still had hair. It was so much fun and the music/DJ was the best. Dinner was to die for. Loved the way they gave the prizes out. Noodleman and I even got some gambling in and if it wasn't for a penny I found on the carpet on the way out of the casino, I'd say they took it all. Thank you again to our class of 64 for the great time. (now put my Annette Funicello hair picture up Sidney.) Oh, to the Camera Nazi....you were the most fun of all. Smile or he'd pull your arms off and beat you with them. We did a lot of smiling.
Fun Weekend, class of 64.

Message: I cannot even begin to express the amount of joy and a great time we had at the 64 in 64 reunion this past weekend. I really hated for it all to end. I think April and Greg and Glenn and all who participated in the organization of our reunion deserve a huge "thanks" for all the time and effort that they put forth. It was so great to see so many classmates and to share so much and there was plenty of time to do whatever we wanted. I will remember that weekend for the rest of my life, it made be proud to be a alumni all over again. Thanks yall (can't wait to see the pictures)
Thanks Dale, See folks, if you miss reunions, they are just that.....pictures. Pictures just can't do what being there does. Great seeing you there Dale, along with many others from the class of 64. Now start planning your 50th coming up in 2014.

Message: I wanted to let the former students of Hawthorne Christian School know there are two 1964 class picture photos for sale on ebay right now. They might bring back some memories for someone from those classes. I also noticed some rookie baseball cards for Mike Scott and Mike Colburn. I guess I have too much time on my hands when I have time to surf ebay.
Thanks for the info Steve. I went to HCS myself but my last year there was 1956. Funny you should mention Hawthorne Christian as tomorrow I'm going to meet for lunch with two former HCSers, one of them I haven't seen in 53 years.

Message: Hi John, It is great to hear from Coach Kanach. We are almost half way to the goal. It is wonderful to see the support. Let's not let it stop. And as far as Judy Wudy goes, holy cow , what a gal. But we already knew that! For the rest of you Cougars-- the VFW is supporting you -- make sure you support them too.. Breakfast- 3rd Sunday of every month- Be there! Wow, with all this supporting going on, I think I may need to lie down for a while. :)
YES, The VFW is supporting our cause so please support theirs. If you live in the area please come to the VFW breakfast the 3rd Sunday of the month, which is next Sunday. Great breakfast for a 6 buck donation. We have several who attend every month and would love to see some new faces. Hope to see some Cougars at the VFW breakfast.

Message: Just received this email from Head Football Coach, Joe Kanach:
John, The response has just been tremendous. I know I not only speak for myself, but the words and monetary donations have been inspiring. I am keeping a list in order to send updates and team info to interested alumni. I can't tell you how proud I am to be a Cougar. The support received has been inspirational and has motivated me to work even harder, if thats possible. Thank you so much Cougartown, for all you have done.
Joe Kanach
I also want to thank all of our Cougartown Alumni for your generous donations to Cougar Football. It speaks to who we are and where we came from on many levels. The donations are still coming in, day by day (I think Judy Wudy, between personal donations, VFW, VFW Bingo, women's auxiliary, and "passing the hat" has amassed the most). We're still looking at a goal of $10,000. Let's make the Hawthorne High football team something to be very proud of, folks. Thanks to Coach Joe Kanach and the players for bringing our Cougar football program back to a competing force. I know I'll be at a few games this year.

Message: I know you all think that my husband is the most romantic man that walks the earth. So, I have a small confession to make. On the ride home from Palm Desert today, I told him if he didn't go to CT (on this, our anniversary) & tell everyone what a great wife I am & how much fun he's had being married to me, that I'd pull his lungs out thru his nose! I love you "Mr. Sponge worthy Noodleman" Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary Til, Great seeing you and the rest of the 64 people at your reunion this past weekend in Palm Desert. Greg, April, and the rest put on a great show. Saw lots of friends from the past and met tons of new ones. Nice to talk with the Ol' Coach, Hal Chauncey and his wife Cathy too. Thanks very much for inviting me.

Message: Hey,JB; Not being a cynic or anything else, just asking a ligit question. I think your answer is a little off however, White is cheaper to manufacture than Black. The Mfg. still has to conduct the dye process for Black, as they would for RED or GOLD. Jorge
Hey George, Thanks for clearing that up. You are quite the haberdasher.
Name: Sonja Simmons ~~~~~~~~~~ Thu-May 5, 2011, 8:07 pm - HHS Time
City & State: Hawthorne CA

Message: Hello everyone, My name is Sonja Simmons and I am a member of the Hawthorne High School Booster Club. Thank you for all of your efforts to assist the football team. Here is a little history about the Booster Club. I am a new member to the Cougar family. My son, Justin, is a freshman and plays on the varsity football team. Our President Lupe, has history with Cougar family; however, her son, Kuluni, is a freshman and plays varsity football as well. Last season Joe expressed the need for financial assistance for the football team due to educational budget crisis in California. The two of us to committed to doing every thing possible to raise money for essentials. We were able to raise enough money to provide the varsity team with meals on game days and some equipment by means of our personal donations and funds from our snack shop. However, that was not enough, so this year we approached Coach Joe with the idea of forming a Booster Club to support the team. Our Booster Club was established this past April. We are in the process of recruiting members for the Booster Club and planning events to benefit the football team. Our goal is to give our student-athletes the opportunity to experience high school just as many of us did in our day. WE THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR KIND DONATIONS AND WILLINGNESS TO ASSIST IN CONTINUING THE COUGAR TRADITIONS. Once again thank you from the Booster Club and the football team. In Cougar Spirit and Pride.
Thank you so much Sonja for your feedback and generosity toward HHS Football. It seems we have a few cynics here but most are very generous to the cause of HHS and I know we'll have enough Cougars donating here to fully support our team for the 2011 season. Good luck with the booster club and hope to meet you at an upcoming Football game.
