Message: My longtime neighborhood (Del Aire) playmate, schoolmate (Lockhaven Christian and HHS), surfing bud, one time roommate (Loma Drive in Hermosa) and friend, Richard Greedus(HHS class of 1969) passed away last night. He never married and had no children. We drifted apart after I went into the Navy (1972) but I kept in touch by visits to the home he grew up in a few blocks from the house I grew up in on Judah. He was like a brother. I will miss you Rich.
Our condolences to the Greedus family and you Eric. Tough to lose our HHS friends.

Message: I wonder if anyone can help me get in touch with Jim Ward, class of 1964. His address and phone number listed in the CIS (Cougartown Information System) have him living in Oxnard, but the phone number is disconnected and e-mail messages have gone unanswered. His sister, Carol Ward Call (c/o '67) was living in Heber, Utah. I haven't had any success in getting ahold of her by e-mail or phone. They also have a younger sister, Jody. Any assistance with this is appreciated.
I'm sure someone will have his whereabouts Glenn, anyone know where Jim is?

Message: Had lunch with Rich Sloan HHS60 today. He was on his way to see Steve Anderson. Got a call from Rich after his visit and Steve is not in the hospital but in his assisted living home. Rich said they watched the video from the Chris Montez concert. Steve seemed in good spirits. Rich said they visited for about an hour.

Message: Does anyone remember Nurse Andy from HIS? She was a good friend of our neighbor Mrs. Anderson, a physical therapist. So, when we would walk to school from Broadway & Freeman, & she saw the Nicocia kids walking, she would give us a ride. She was a 'exceptional' sweet spirit!..I will never forget her, or Mrs. Anderson, she was my salvation when we 1st immigrated to America. She would read to us! Our parents didn't speak English..& she took us under her wing..a true angel! On another note, I'm looking for some extra work as a caregiver in the PV area. I have over 20 years experience, & am a fantastic cook..not to mention a compassionate caregiver for the seniors. I truly feel for them..I took care of my immigrant parents for 20 years! Email me if you have someone who needs s little TLC in the PV area. Always looking to help out those who cannot take care of themselves..it's SO rewarding! :)

Message: I've received word from the City of Hawthorne that Steve Andersen, class of 60 is gravely ill, in a coma, suffering from severe effects of diabetes. He's had several strokes the past few weeks and is not a candidate for any kind of surgery to stop the spread of infection from the diabetes. They're giving him only a couple weeks to live. The email from Jim Mitsch, the City Manager didn't give a location where Steve is hospitalized. I'll always remember Steve, Bob Hunter and Fred Ragatz as my first Pop Warner football coaches, and then friends in later years. Prayers are requested...
Thanks Mike, our prayers to you, Steve. May your suffering come to an end.

Message: Close John, the J.P. stands for Jiles Perry. Don't laugh at the toilet thing. On December 31, 1999 while working for a property management company handling homeowner associations I got a call from a lady in Whittier who asked if port-a-potties were going to be placed around the community. I asked why that would be done and she said, "For when the toilets won't flush at midnight!" I guess one of the casualties of the millenium change. You know how hard it is not to laugh at someone while trying to act professionally? I nearly hurt myself.
So THAT'S what happened to my toilet

Message: Haven't been here in a while..been unemployed for a few months but should be back to work by next week. I remember riding the bus to Dana in 63 and we'd all look out the windows to see how many Corvette Stingrays we could spot. Concerning Buddy Holly...a friend of mine had photos of the plane crash hanging in his recording studio. But on a lighter note Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways" is one of my favorite songs and his guitar, a sunburst Fender Strat is still my favorite guitar.
Thanks Larry, welcome back.

Message: You're right, JB...she said it was Elvis. She also says it really was Elvis on the plane but an impersonator took his place. Now he's appearing at The Little White Chapel in Vegas. Who woulda thought... She also thinks that if the electricity goes out in your house...the toilets won't flush! J.P.Richardson...the Big Bopper...what does the initials J.P. stand for?
Judy would say "Just Pretty" I think it's something like Jiles Penny?

Message: Janny: Yeah it was the Day The Music Died, but here is a trivia question for you. Ritchie Valens was not supposed to be on that plane. Who gave up their seat to him because Ritchie was sick with a cold?
Waylon Jennings was the guy. I know, Janny was supposed to come up with that, but I also know he would have had to ask Judy and she would have said, "I think it was Elvis". Just saved your bacon, Janny, you can thank me later.

Message: My 8th grade year I lived on Gale Ave near Broadway. I was granted permission to attend Dana and remember our stop was on Broadway and Felton. Rhonda Allen picked up the bus at that stop as well. I also remember waiting for the bus one early morning and hearing about the sad news that occured on Feb 3, 1959. TRIVIA QUESTION: what happened on Feb 3, 1959? John Rout, you already know the answer...no fair! Happy Valentines day to all...

Message: When I started Wiseburn (Dana) they had an old rickety bus that was driven by Gerald Bentley who was also a church pastor and the Del Aire barber working out of his house. At that time there were a few students that lived in El Segundo about where Raytheon is now so it was a pretty good tour. There was no Hollyglen or anything else but fields for the mile between 120th and the school. When I was old enough mother would make me wear a yellow beanie hat so she could keep an eye on me when I walked to school across the fields when they were dry. A few years later I just rode a bike. We had some horses so if the school had a hitchin post . . . oh well, that's another story.
A Yellow Beanie? I bet you were proud, Denny.

Message: I never heard "Del Aire students" when I was in school. I lived at 119th Street and Felton, across the street was my father's church the Del Aire Baptist Church. We only had buses to Dana from the Anza school 120th Street at Anza, 1957-and 58, but never to any other school.

Message: Ricki, I rode a school bus to from Felton & 118th to St. Joseph until Margie and Joanie Beebe let me walk with them to and from. But I will say that the bus was "loaded" with kids, sitting, standing.. like sardines. If you missed your stop, that was too bad and if the bus had to stop on a dime, everyone standing was on the floor. Walking in the rain and fog was a lot safer than taking the bus. Thanks for jobbing my memory. I don't even want to give you a visual of what went on when we had to take a few dozen donuts home for the donut sales contest. (somehow, I think you got the visual just fine.)

Message: Does anyone remember when we had school buses in Hawthorne? Jim and I were talking about how there are so many school buses these days. Except for one summer when I took catechism classes at St. Joseph's do I remember a schoolbus. Actually it was farther to walk to catch the bus than to walk to the church. We only did it so that we could ride with our cousins who were coming from Lennox.
You rode about a block, Ricki

That is the very reason we all should stay in touch. Plan time to meet with friends or just give them a call. On a lighter note! While I was fingering over the pearly whites with a tune from long ago, and getting ready for the super bowl, I just wanted to wish all of Cougartown a safe weekend. John! the next song is for you.
Thanks Wayne, see you and Donna at Cruise Night.
