Message: I remember many summer days at the Hawthorne pool in the mid to late 80's. My parents both worked full time, and for a cool $1 and some change I could spend my afternoon soaking up the UV's and listening to Bananarama, and Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam on the blaring speakers surrounding the pool. I was a prune by the end of the day. I dreaded the fact that people with hair past their shoulders had to wear a swim cap, because there would be no way any cut boys would notice me with one on. Ha Ha. My older brother worked as a lifeguard at the pool for a couple of summers, and I would love to sneak his bright red hoodie sweatshirt that said LIFEGUARD on it and wear it around, like to El Porto beach. I thought I was so cool. I couldn't imagine allowing my own children traipsing around town at age 11 like I did.

Message: I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Tammy Tagami. We were in every class together from K-6th grade. She was the smartest girl I have ever known. (I believe she got a perfect score on the SAT). She was also lovely. I haven't spoken to her in years, but have never forgotten her. Now I wish I would have made the effort to find her. I just saw it, and she has hundreds of friends on her FB and I wish I was one of them. My prayers go to her family and her husband. Truly, the planet has lost a great lady.

Message: Very sad to hear of the passing of my classmate Tammy Tagami-Reeves. I met Tammy in 7th grade at Hawthorne Intermediate in Mrs. Puterbaughs' class. I formed a tight friendship with Tammy and a group that went to Eucalyptus elementary. During 7th and 8th grade we'd all meet up at Eucalyptus park after school and the group would play whatever we were in the mood for that day, ditch-em, ball tag etc. At dark we'd all head home and gear up for another day of school and hanging at the park. Tammy and our group used to hit the drop-in youth dances at the Memorial Center every week, great fun!! One day at Eucalyptus, Bill Collins and I went over to Tammys house on Inglewood Ave. across from the park. I think house rules were "No boys over" if parents aren't home. Anyways her dad pulled up in his car and Billy and I hotfooted it out the back door and for some reason got up on the roof. As we got to the top of the roof, Tammys dad came over the top from the other side with a shotgun. Billy and I never ventured over to her house again without her parents home! Tammy was a great gal and will always be in my memories of youth. I hope everyone in the class of 76 mourns her loss and appreciates the time we have here on Earth. Some of the other members of our Eucalyptus crew were Lisa Shambaugh, Carolyn Lamonde, and Flynn Whatahomogie (Leuzinger I think).

Message: I love all the car show talk. I love car shows! My favorite are British cars, and I own a vintage MGB. I was just thinking back on the first MGB that caught my eye, and it was Danny Fix's car. Thinking of that made me remember the time someone picked it up and turned it sideways in his parking space in the parking lot. It was wedged between the cars on either side, and he couldn't get out. WOW!!!! Was he mad! I never did know who did it. Does anyone out there know who the culprits were? Sure was funny! He was hopping mad!

In lieu of being there, there is going to be a car show at my son's High School on Saturday July 17th. I'll have to check it out. If there is anything noteworthy (apart from a VERY unlikely Cougar sighting), I'll snap some pictures and send them in so we can have an east coast/west coast comparison. Might be fun!
