Message: Hello Cougartown Family. I have a very dear friend who is very sick with cancer. He is at this time back in Washington DC at the National Institutes of Health. He is in a trial program that will last for over 6 mos. During that time he will be going back and forth to DC at there expense. But while he is home in between his treatment he will need blood transfusions. He does not have any medical insurance so this blood will be very expensive. So I am asking the Cougar family if they can to donate in his name, Glenn Szabo and the hospital is Placentia-Linda Hospital, 1301 N. Rose Dr., Placentia, CA. 92870. Lifestream blood centers is where you need to go to donate in his name. They are located in Riverside, SAN Bernardino, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. This is thru the American Red Cross. We are just replacing the blood that they use so Glenn does not have to pay for it. I have been told the cost is about $1,000 a unit. If they ask Glenn is O Positive. If you can donate, can you please let me know so we can keep track of all the units that are donated in Glenn's name. I remember when Sharon would come over and we'd sit on a broken down couch in our driveway (yikes!). Message: Good thoughts, Neil. Yes, it was a magical time with the Beach Boys ... nothing like the sixties. For those of you who haven't read Tom Brokaw's "The Greatest Generation", please do so. It's a heartwarming read and I gained a clearer insight to my parents and others their ages. To quote Brokaw - "They came of age during the Great Depression and the Second World War and went on to build modern America - men and women whose everyday lives of duty, honor, achievement and courage gave us the world we have today."

After all these years , it is still a lot of fun to respond to acquaintances when my association with Hawthorne High & the Beach Boys comes up in conversation. We actually had no control over our surroundings as adolescents , so when I am patronized or revered by my peers for simply being a Scarlet & Gold Alumnus it is humbling to acknowledge my upbringing. Further, the respect and admiration shown to me by my friends because I grew up 5 blocks from the Wilson Brothers, demonstrates just how truly magical those days of our youth were. The older I get the more I respect the honest traditional Values of our parent's generation. I have said this before but it worth saying again – God Bless Brian Wilson.
