Message: Wade, Thanks for exposing my declining brain power and memory with your recollection of Laidlaw's greatest game his senior year (let's see, the North High Saxons, South High Anglos and West High Warrior. Sentinels were from Inglewood and usually sucked). I apologize for forgetting about you and Mike Bell being the QBs in 1971, but I guess we all remember, "Snap to Bell and he hands off to Laidlaw for a 20 yard gain"! I don't think HHS QBs ever allowed to pass more than 5 times per game. Maybe this changed your junior and senior years, but then Terry Howse and Gene Skulick were the star running backs. Time for me to go take my vitamin E and maybe next time I will remember how many Warriors Scott Laidlaw carried on his back. Trivia Question for Greasby- Who was the West High Star running back in this showdown game which Laidlaw completely over shadowed? I dont remember the answer myself, but it was Dave somebody!

Message: Regards to Mr. Scott Laidlaw.....Scott was the QB for HHS in his Junior Year. He was moved to Tailback his Senior Year. Mike Bell and I were the QB's. The game in question, Dean, was the West Torrance High Game where Scott carried 6 or 7 Warriors for a vital first down in HHS's upset of West. One of the most exciting games in the history of HHS football. He was All League, All South Bay, All CIF, played in the North/South Shrine Game and the Lions All Star Game. He went to Stanford and was primarily a blocking fullback. At Dallas he was nicknamed "Little Walt" as in Walt Garrison and blocked for Tony Dorsett and Preston Pierson. He did play in two Super Bowls, Dallas vs Denver, and Dallas vs Pittsburgh. He had a high light game against Washington on Thanksgiving Day 1978. Scott was first class, always there to teach and give insight to what was happening on and off the field. I haven't seen Scott in many years, but the memories of the 1970 football season are many. I was fortunate enough to play two sports with two great athletes, Mike Scott, baseball and Scott Laidlaw, football. HHS Hall of Famers

Message: Hey, John Boy; Just got back in town from Palm Desert, checked in & saw the thread about North Torrance H.S.. Here's a little bit of useless trivia, could be HHS related if anybody got sent there. North Torrance H.S. was the designated South Bay S/D CONTINUATION school of it's day. Way before LLoyd, and some of the other continuation schools that exist today. If you were a high school student back then and got kicked out of your designated high school and no other school had room and/or wanted you, you eventually ended up at North Torrance.

Message: Scott Laidlaw was a running QB at HHS, really a Tailback who played QB and ran the Option set. Dont think he had much of an arm either for distance or accuracy. He earned a full football scholarship to Stanford where they gradually converted him from a fleet footed 185 running back to a 240 pound fullback. I watched Laidlaw at Stanford and was disappointed in how he had to convert to a power runner who mainly blocked for the passing game that Stanford ran. Gil Brandt, the Dallas Cowboys super-scout had eyes for Scott to become a blocking back for the fast tailbacks of the Cowboys (Dorsett, I think, maybe Herschel Walker). Again, he played long enough for his NFL pension and probably played in a Super Bowl, but never was as exciting as the running back who in his Senior Year in a grudge game at North High carried about 11 Sentinels on his back for about 40 yards to lead a thrilling Cougar upset.
