Message: Yes, there is a DaVinci charter high school where the old Dana school was and it started operating this year. I loved it when a fellow 78'er Linda Turnbow described their paint job as a "3 ring circus" which is spot on because the colors were blue, lime green and rusty red. I lived in Hollyglen until last November and can give an update. The Wiseburn School District recently built a new Dana school, on 135th St, next to the old Dana school around 2007. Then they rebuilt Cabrillo. While they were rebuilding Cabrillo during the past year, they housed Cabrillo students in the old Dana school. The plan was to demolish the old Dana school once the new Cabrillo school was rebuilt and the students moved back there. But the Wiseburn Unification movement made progress and it was decided that a charter high school (which became DaVinci) would start operating at the old Dana in Fall 2009. So Dana is still around, just a little bit east of DaVinci. Lori

Message: Saw the Barbara Duran question regarding The Da Vinci High School. The District started working on the new school site in January, 2009. Da Vinci opened this week and they are open to students in the ninth and tenth grades. They have programs gearing mainly to College bound teens. Strong in Math and Science programs and more.
Thanks Loretta

Message: HUGE thanks to Patti, Maria, and everyone else for their continued support of the Sunshine Kids Club!! Please keep voting through Sept. 15...do it for the kids!!! Also, excellent article on my old buddy, Wes. It's great to hear he's doing what he loves...I know the feeling, my friend!! Finally, and speaking of Wes, I got another *VERY* unexpected email from our freshman basketball coach, Danny Litton!! He shared a *GREAT* story about how my dad once told him he was worried Coach Litton was overlooking me as a B-ball player because I was "on the small side." Coach wrote me today: "I assured your father that I HAD noticed Jim and more or less guaranteed him that you would make the team." Thanks, Coach! Peace!

Message: Just read the article on Wesley Clements. Wes used to hang around Ramona Park when I worked there one summer. Got to know him and he was always helpful. When my youngest son Adam was a Junior, his baseball team played against Agoura and Wes was the hitting coach, although it was pretty apparent he was running the show. I approached him after the game introduced myself, he remembered me from the park. Or at least was polite enough not to feign any forgetfulness. He was very well respected at that level and as the article says at Class A too-that's the most difficult group to gain trust or respect. Way to go Wesley!

Message: Zach the Lap Dog has been voting for the Sunshine Kids every day. Hope they win! Moved back to the Golden State after 3 years in Texas. AND I live in Hawthorne - never lived in Holly Glen area before, but do now. Weird. Still getting used to the dense population here, but LOVING using the strand again with the hubby and the dog. Brings back memories of those good old 70's and riding the packed bus to El Porto. The SPF 70 has replaced the CoCoa butter, though.
Cocoa butter smells better though Glad you're home again, Patti and thanks very much for the Cougartown dues.

Message: On September 4th my husband and I hit 50 years of marriage. Still hard to believe it's been that long. My kids and grandkids took us out to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for a great dinner. My son had us all picked up by Limo. Is that great or what? Regarding the newspaper clipping at the top of the page, I sure wish my parents would have been around to buy some of that land at those prices. They never owned anything. It's hard to imagine land ever being that cheap.
Thanks Marilyn and a great big Cougar Congratulations on 50 years of marriage.

Message: Thank you Pam (*fellow* class of '76), and Steve (class of '66) for your Sunshine Kids Club vote! This is a *perfect* example of how *ALL* Cougars...class of '66, '76, '86, '96, '06, and every year in between...can get together to help a friend!! Please keep voting through Sept. 15, and don't forget, you can donate directly to SKC as well. On a different note, this morning I got a very unexpected, and completely out of the blue email from my JV basketball coach, Paul Crowell, who is doing well, living in Athens, AL, "watching the grandkids grow up," and playing "alot of golf for competition and fun." Life is good! Peace!

Message: George, no sweat. It was just a jab, so to speak :-).I just wanted to see if anyone remembered that movie line. I thought I would get a little more reaction from it as much as anything. For all who don't know what it was, it went like this, "did somebody step on a Duck", after he had passed gas. Hilarious at the time. Really, I was just trying to have a little fun , but threw my .02 cents in and thats about all it's worth. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU. Jake N Jude

Message: George, I don't usually write about football anymore as JB likes to keep this about C-Town. But all I can say is do you remember the famous line from Rodney Dangerfield in, I believe it was Caddyshack, when he passed gas. Well that's basically what happened all night to the Quackers. It should have been about 40-8. Besides Blount was the one who shot his mouth off about how they were going to kick BSU's proverbial **S before the game. No one has heard what Hout said but he's being disciplined, but I could have knocked him out with a sucker punch like that. It's too bad for Oregon, college football period and a heck of a bad example for all our young people out there, no matter what the outcome. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU! Jake N Jude
