Message: RE ? Wayne & Donna Dickey First, let me offer congratulations to the happy couple. I don?t personally know either of them. But, hey! They?re fellow Cougars, and I?m sure we all wish them well. Second, I too, got married in Las Vegas. When it came time for Brad and me to tie the knot, we wanted to find the method that was quick, easy, legal and at the lowest cost. We also opted for the drive-thru wedding chapel and I?ve been a huge proponent of it ever since. In our case, we took the money that would have been spent on lavish wedding preparations (dress, flowers, photographer, invitations, etc.) and instead we managed to have a huge reception a few weeks later to celebrate our legal nuptials with family and friends. Personally, I think that in many cases too much time, effort, and money is spent planning a wedding; with little consideration for the actual marriage that ensues. That?s all. Just my two cents.

We had lots of laughs and remained friends throughout high school. The very last time I saw him was at our 10+ reunion where we had lots of fun. My sympathy goes out to his family and all his friends. Defenitely someone I will never forget. He will be missed. Mabel Lopez-Talavera, C/O'88

Message: I have a Cougar sighting to report. The actual first sighting was in early fall of last year...now we see this guy almost daily. Ed Strange (class of 1969) has made his way back to the West coast. After retiring from the phone company, starting a business in Texas and selling it five years later, Ed made plans to move to Oregon near an old friend. He called us in Ocean Park, WA to drop by...came for the weekend and 8 days later came here for good. My husband Charlie (Cozby '69) and Ed have been friends since they were nine. I met Eddie when I was a junior in high school. Sandy Adamson ('71) and I would go to the Jack in the Box across from Hawthorne High and number paper cups (inventory of some sort) while Charlie manned the grill and Eddie manned the mike. The four of us spent the entire summer of '69 at the beach and now Ed is here and the three of us are still at the beach, just a little cooler than down south. Ed has started a gardening/landscape business here, a life long dream. Just recieved notice of the August reunion so am hoping to convince these guys we should go. Funny how things work out.

Message: Well, I guess the cats out of the bag. Donna & I would like to thank all the well wishers. To clarify some misconceptions about "THE EVENT". We "did" know each other in high school. Although we were never an item. We did get re-acquainted at our 30 year reunion. Yes a pair of nylons were in the mix. Everything has been very simple with us since. In Las Vegas for our b-days (Nov. 3rd & 4th). Spur of the moment decision. Yes we used the drive through service. Next cruise night will have Mr & Mrs Dickey, instead of just "Donna & Wayne".

I would like to get in touch with Sandy Berwick (HHS 1973). The last time I talked to her (1995?) she was living just outside of Memphis, in Mississippi. She was married and her last name was Phillips. Anyone with information on her whereabouts, please let me know.

I would like to share with all of you that tomorrow January 22 I will be going to the Elton John concert here in Buenos Aires (Boca Juniors Stadium) with my son Matthew. This is 34 years after I last saw him play at Dodger Stadium in 75 and 35 years after seeing him at The Fabulous Forum in 74. Anyone who knew me in High School in 73 and 74 can tell you the passion I had for the music of Elton John. Especially Greg Guerrero and Mark Pappas who patiently put up with me. I will see if I can post some pictures next week. Take care all --- Richard

Message: First, I wanted to report a Cougar sighting. I need your approval J B! On the cover of the February 09 Journal of the AMA, American Motorcyclist, is a picture of HHS's Mark Blackwell, head of Victory motorcycles. Second, I wanted to let everyone know that I had a seizure (first one in my life) a week ago. MRI produced a brain tumor. I go under the knife 1-28-09 to have it removed. The concern is they can't remove all due to possible damage to regular brain tissue which could impair my right side strength. Wish me luck and have a fine Cougar day!

Message: It is, indeed, an especially good day to be an American! We are a unique generation to have seen our country go from segregation to seeing Barack Obama sworn in as our 44th president. But that is not what prompted me to check into Cougartown today. I heard a Hawthorne rumor a few weeks ago via Artie Verduzco. I called my friend today to condirm that it is in fact, a fact. It pertains to two of our Cougars who fell in love at a class reunion not that long ago. She, with a run in her stockings, he with an extra pair in his glove box...(which I still don't understand)...They communicated via this gift from John Baker and emails and finally he moved here to be with her. November 2nd they happened to be in Las Vegas and said, "What the heck." Donna Cook Wright and Wayne Dickey are man and wife. Congratulations!

Message: Hello All; Hey Ernie Nixon, Cougartown is indeed a very small place. My mom and I lived in the front unit of Stan and Nell Ballentine's duplex for several years (late 50's thru early 60's). Since the place was just a one bedroom your uncle Stan converted an empty room up over his garage into a bedroom for me. It was like I had my own apartment, sort of. They were both super to us. They even let us use their camping trailer that they kept up in Crestline a couple times. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Good luck and better times to all of us with our new administration. Hope to see you all on cruise night. Mike

Message: The Bausman's were quite the crew, being younger and their next door neighbor in my early years I tagged along occasionally. The initial year of little league I was seven and played on the Pee Wee's as there was no age limit which changed thereafter. The beginning years on opening day the teams would parade down Hawthorne Blvd with the kids hanging out the windows of cars or loaded in pick ups while the parents would honk the horns while slowly cruising. The caravan would be decked out with crepe paper and balloons in their respective team colors. I lost thought of the parades till Jim Gibson mentioned Ed. Any whereabouts of Fred, Kenny or Nancy Bausman?
