Message: Hello everyone, I have been really busy doing some stuff. Is there a cruise night scheduled anytime in late February or near there I think I may be in LA then and want to stop by. Also, I know we have alot of car buffs here. I am selling a 1956 Chevy Belair Wagon completely restored for a great cost. Looks and runs brand new. If interested contact me. Sorry John for the ad but I thought someone on here would like it since so many car guys. And I like the way the site looks now.
Thanks Keith...As it stands right now, the next Cruise Night will be mid-February to mid-March. Send pictures of the 56.

Message: Re: earthquakes. Larry, I already have a couple of "earthquake warning devices": my two cats. I've only been in one quake in Japan, a 6-pointer in October 2005. Fortunately, it was centered 60 miles away from Tokyo. It still shook the city pretty good, though.

Message: I'm sorry John, I spelled today wrong! That would throw me off too. lol At 10 a.m. on November 13 and through out today millions of people throughout Southern California will participate in the ShakeOut Drill, the largest earthquake preparedness activity in U.S. history! Are you telling me, Lomita wan't included?
No, we don't have earthquakes here.

Message: Local, State, and some Federal agencies conducted an earthquake preparedness drill today, with a simulated high magnitude 8.? on the Richter scale. There is a cool device called "Quake Alert", Tectonics Research Group, that is mounted in the home and detects specific vibrations just before an earhtquake, alerting occupants so they can find a safe place before it really starts to rock and roll. Mike needs one fo these instruments. So does Armand since he travels to Japan where it shakes a lot.
Been in earthquakes for 64 years in CA and never needed one. Now I guess we all have to have this device Someone built it and now is selling it? No need to explain.

Thanks Deb....

Message: Yesterday was the first in ages I've driven down Inglewood Ave. from Torrance (starting at 190th Street) after picking my mom up from the hospital. Some of the changes I noticed: the HUGE new building at Lawndale High (I presume that it's an auditorium, it sure looks like one). Gee, if they have money for that, then there should be money for sports. Ahem. (End of editorial.) The old boat dealer at Inglewood Av. and Rosecrans is gone. We drove by the HHS Penitentiary (that fence makes the old school look like one) and saw the new building on the El Segundo Blvd. side. There's a lot of mini-malls along Inglewood Av. At least one thing hasn't changed: Raul's Taco on Inglewood. We stopped there for dinner. It was good to eat there again.

Message: Larry mio, what a great idea! I was thinking of sending baked goods for the holidays, however, we all get so much 'forward' emails that I'm sure if we all 'adopt' just one service man/woman, we could put a smile on their faces, yes? And, we all do holiday baking, so why not make up another batch for the men/women in uniform along with a letter or two so they know that they are NEVER forgotten. That was a great reminder Larry-we are so busy with our own lives, we forget/take for granted that we are able to 'go' and 'do' WHATEVER we please everyday, because we live in the land of the FREE, and the home of the BRAVE, all because of them....
Good idea, Enza...

Message: Larry...I just went to SoldiersAngels.org and signed up to adopt a soldier. I have a son in the United States Navy stationed state side right now. Of course...I still send him all kinds of packages...but I have been trying to think of a way to do something for one of our young men or women overseas since my son returned to the states last year(must be withdrawals or something). Thanks for putting the idea in my head! I'll see how the 1st adoption goes...you never know...could end up with a small family of adopted G.I.'s!

Message: I should have added that when I was in the Army I received a deal of mail at first then gradually less and then to very little. Daily mail call with no letters from home makes men and women serving their country feel lonely and forgotten. "Soldier's Angels" is doing something about that. I've "adopted" three service members so far. www.soldiersangels.org

Message: On this Veterans Day, I went over and read the Vietnam tribute page about all the brave men/women who died for our freedom. It's amazing how so many young men lost their lives after just a few weeks of arriving in Vietnam! Some survived a few months, i.e.,Larry Bach's cousin, Lynn Matteson was one of the few who survived 8 months! I don't recall the media/newspapers reporting that SO many lost there lives just WEEKS after arriving. So sad. On another note regarding Airline employees and Hawthorne High ~ I can say that in my early 20's I worked for American Airlines, and also United Airlines. Yeah, my stock was worth something back then....a couple of years ago, United sent me a check after they filed for bankruptcy protection, for just about $15.00...ugh!

Message: I checked with Principal Newell back in the beginning of October and he said that we were at about $22,000 to use for all sports and he believed that would carry us through this year - They did have to cut back on a lot of stuff but he wasn't very specific - Here is a list of the Corporate sponsors: South Bay Workforce Investment Board: $1000.00 Bally Total Fitness: $1500.00 Herff Jones Inc.: $1500.00 The Target Corporation: $4000.00
Thanks Jolene, and also happy to announce that our Cougar alumni raised more than 3 times the sports money raised by Leuzinger and Lawndale. I'm very proud of our Alumni for the way they stepped up in this crisis. Thanks very much to all for your generous support.

Message: Sharon, I'm not sure that info on the sports donation page is current. I know we donated several months ago - sent the check directly to the school - but aren't on the list, so that would lead one to believe that it may be the case with others as well. It would be interesting to know the current info on all donations. One last plug for 'Zach the Lap Dog' and the milk-bone.com contest. This is the last week of daily voting before they tally the votes (voting ends 11/18). :)
Hi Patti, I'm voting every day for Zach and I know others are too. RE the Sports Donation: Yes the ones that have contributed through Cougartown and a few that I received from the Principal are on the list. The ones who donated directly to HHS may or may not be on the list. I'll see if I can get an updated list from Principal Newell in the next few days.

I'm headed to check out the what's happening page and get involved page. Oh, heck I'll just check out the entire site. It's been a while since I've surfed CT. speaking of surfing, I'm headed for Kauai for the week of Thanksgiving. I'm going to rent a couple of boards for my granddaughter and I. I know she'll do great. I on the other hand will probably break something. Thanks again, John for all the great stuff you do for all of us here on CT.
Thanks Sharon, have a great time and YOU be VERY careful

Message: I go to an annual get together of present and former LAX Res Employees for Delta Airlines. This year it was held at the Flight Museum on the North side of Imperial Hwy. Very interesting display of LAX history from Mines Field, to Flying Tigers, individual airlines past and present. Didn't everyone have a friend if not a family member who worked at the airport? So where's the Cougar worthy mention? I was looking at the TWA display and the five year employee pin was on loan for HHS' own Mr. Stan Bosler of Torrance! Was this before or after retiring from teaching? ;-)
Good question....

Message: Hi All, I was surprised to see that we have not met our goal to keep Sports in HHS. If you have not given yet, please do so now. Keep in mind what Sports at Hawthornie High meant to you when you were a student. I remember being proud to go to Cougar Football games and cheer for my team. Let's not wait for others to do what we can do! Give. This is an easy way to make a difference in teen lives. ss

As far as the magnifying glass goes, you can change the size of the text on the Explorer browser by clicking on the View|Text Size and then click on a larger or smaller text size. If you have a Firefox browser, hold the Ctrl key down and press the "+" or "-" keys. There are so many monitors (4:3, 16:9), screen resolutions, and text sizes that the screen will look different to everyone. Jut pick the one that suits you and your monitor.
