Message: John, I LOVE YOU MAAANNNN for publishing election comments on both sides of the fence after and not before the election, a very judicious move. I know which side of the fence most Cougs of a certain age are on, which is why I'm especially grateful for the FAIR AND BALANCED reporting at Cougartown this week since Tuesday. You said no more partisan election comments and I am glad for that, but allow me to report in all non-partisan objectivity that on election night here in the inner city Lynn and I ordered up a deep-dish CHICAGO-STYLE pizza from Masa of Echo Park, a pizza that takes an hour to bake, but we waited eight years so we could wait an hour. And that on the way to pick it up we saw people literally dancing in the streets. I recognize that there were probably not so many dancers in the Hawthornian diaspora, but you know, we haven't had a lot to dance about here in the inner city in quite a while, so we were glad to see people go and glow with the moment, and show that we were indeed there for our country too in these tough times, even as we inner city types have been asked to be there through the past eight highly-divisive years, in which we've also been told by the white-flighters in the 'burbs that we don't even love our country at all because we see things differently. That was why so many people in the City turned out, across America, John: not to be Democrat or Republican or black or white, but to demonstrate that WE who may disagree DO love our country, even we humble scribes and suspicious community organizers in THE AWESOMELY GREAT INNERCITIES OF AMERICA, even while we have even been told that we're not even "real Americans" at all---and yeah, we know what kind of subtext that kind of a message freights. All we are saying now, John, is what we have been saying for over a THOUSAND pages of Cougartown: Give peace and boat drinks a chance.--Joseph

Message: I really fear the polarization in the US. I know Obama will be wrong, and potentially a disaster as president. I just hope that his failings are obvious...not subtle like Clinton's. But lacking any obvious mistakes by the Obama presidency, I can only pray that Obama is not as scary as he has the potential to be...and I am torn as to how strongly I object to his presidency...or how much I swallow my concerns and put on a good face for the benefit of the United States. I don't think it is good for us to be so divided...to have so much bitterness and distrust.

Message: Dennis, saw your post regards additional funding for schools. Noted the property owners will pay the bill. Did you have to be home owner to vote or did the non property owners get to vote? Seems like as soon as there are enough non property owners in California that can qualify to vote:; they will go after Prop 13.

Message: (RE Dennis Kilroy feedback) I do not how good a news it is in that they needed 10 million to off set costs that they used from a another bond measure. Now if Wiseburn breaks away and starts their own high school system everyone owning property in the Wiseburn area may still be obligated to pay for this bond until it is payed off.

Message: Yes Oregon you are soooooo right!!!! In my opinion Obama is already so good for not only America but look at the outpouring of admiration & respect the US is getting back from all around the world!!!!! It just feels like such a heavy weight has been lifted and there is truly hope for the America we all grew up in, that we all love so much but had changed so much in these last last 8 years. His message is so inspiring and uplifting as opposed to the message of fear and hate. This is truly the greatest country and I'm so proud to be a part if it and making history last night!!!! Pray we can now bring our brave men and women home safely from Iraq and remember the families of the soldiers who sadly won't be able to welcome their loved ones back home safely. May God always bless and comfort them!!!

Message: Good News for our District. (from the Daily Breeze) Centinela Vallley Measure CV passes Nguyen Huy Vu Staff Writer Article Launched: 11/05/2008 08:16:28 AM PST The cash-strapped Centinela Valley Union High School District was locked in a tight battle, but won passage of a $98 million bond measure Tuesday. With all precincts reporting, Measure CV collected 70.33 percent of the vote against 29.67. It needed 66.6 percent needed for passage. The plan would send Leuzinger High School more than $45 million, Hawthorne High School about $28 million and Lawndale High School around $19.4 million in campus upgrades. Another $5.4 million was slated for district wide projects. Property owners would pay $29.72 per $100,000 of assessed property value for an additional 20 years, or through 2057. Interim Superintendent Jose Fernandez said that, with recent state infrastructure grants and matching funds, the district could receive a total of up to $200 million if the bond passes.

Message: This has been a historic day in our lives. Looking back (like it was yesterday) to the 60's and the Watts riots that took place just a few miles from Hawthorne, who could have thought at that time, that a American of color would become President of the United States. I wish him well and hope he can restore the educational system, among other things, so that sports, arts and trades can once again be taught in all schools without the threat of losing them. Our future generations depend on it. OK, everyone take a deep breath and have a fine Cougar day!
