Message: Hey John, Didn't mean to be a downer for anyone. I suppose I do miss home though. They say home is where your heart is. My heart never left California. It is beautiful here in Acworth. I have a home bordering a forest and the sunsets are to die for. However, without the people you love around you, it presents an emptiness that can't be fulfilled by any materialistic possession or endeavor. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday....I think it is because the point of the day is giving thanks, being grateful and celebrating family, friends and terrific food....some of my favorite memories involve sitting around the dinner table talking, eating, drinking, laughing.....and what is more quintessentially thanksgiving than that? Peace out
Well James, you always have our Cougartowners for Thanksgiving. We'll be right here, just give us a shout.

Message: In the warmth of Autumn old Thanksgiving is being pushed aside by all the commercialism of Christmas. The mantra of buy, buy, buy being shoved down our throats the day after Halloween. Have you noticed how its now called the Holiday Season, sorta lumping Thanksgiving and Christmas together. I love Thanksgiving, I don't think it gets the attention it deserves, of course retailers can't commercialize this holiday like they can Christmas, since all you buy is food and its all about family and being thankful. I truly have alot to be thankful for...this will be the first year since moving to Georgia that I can cook a turkey in my own home.I also tend to feel the odd one out when it comes to decorating since I don't start until sometime in mid~December. When I was a kid we put our tree up a week before Christmas Eve ~ now most people don't wait that long, they usually put it up on the day after Thanksgiving. Any earlier, and I would tire of the decorations, I hope I don't sound like a Scrooge here, it is just the way I like it, and I am certainly not downing anyone if they like decorating earlier. I think I will make a nice cup of spiked egg nog and pour over old pictures of Thanksgiving and Christmas's past. I guess living alone is taking its toll. I hope all my friends here at Cougartown have a wonderful Thanksgiving and and a wonderful holiday season!! I will leave you with this thought: He who thanks but with the lips Thanks but in part; The full, the true Thanksgiving Comes from the heart.~J.A. Shedd
Hi James, You sound full of spirit AND woefully lonely. I feel that way too sometimes, especially this time of year when I start recalling past Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons with family either no longer here or so far away. Decorating usually always lifts my holiday spirits and I really don't do enough of it. This year I will. Have a great Thanksgiving.

Message: Keith, they rebuilt Dana and in doing so put it more centralized on the property. The fields along 135th are now a parking lot, baseball and softball fields are in the back on the Isis side and a Junior, or Pony sized field, is supposed to go up on the Aviation side in the future. Least, that was the last I heard.

Message: I was reading the feedback on airline employees and just wanted to say I worked for TWA for 34 years until they went belly up. AAL bought their assets and kept us on until 911 hit the airline industry. Since they didn't give us any seniority when we came over we were the first ones to hit the street. I went to St Louis to work for six months until I turned 62 and retired. Happiness is seeing the Arch in the rearview mirror!

Message: Cougar sighting - I went to the last game of the season vs. Santa Monica on Friday and sitting in the stands on the Santa Monica side but wearing his Cougar scarlet and gold jacket was Coach Casillas - For those of you from the earlier years of HHS, he was one of the Varsity Coaches in the 80's to 90's - It was a little hard to believe that after 24 years, my old science teacher remembered who I was - Anyway, it made my night since we didn't win and my son didn't get to play - Hopefully next year will be better!
Great Cougar Sighting, Jolene. Next year better be better. It couldn't be worse.

Message: Wade, Wade, Wade. Staying up to cram for a test? I was lucky enough to have friends who had the same classes just before me, and would fill me in on the questions/answers that were on the test. Not that I didn't do my homework, I just wanted to get an 'A' on the tests and have a headsup on what to expect. I seem to remember that Steve Duel, Mike Payne (whatever happened to him, I never see him at the reunions), and Doug Seapara copying my answers in Miss Violet Clark's English class. She was one tough cookie...scared the heck outta me. In that classroom I was surronded by Steve sitting behind me, Mike in front and Doug to the right of me. Talk about being teased relentlessly!!...but, hey, who could resist the charms of these handsome boys, and I, such a sweet and shy girl...(yeah, right!) Doug Seapara, where are you? Would love to catch up and see how you are doing. Mike Payne too...never see that southern boy at any of the reunions. Steve Duel (a Fire Fighter/Captian in Torrance), chime in and give us the 411 would ya. Oh, if I only knew then what I know now.....we had some good looking guys in the class of '72. Well, come to think of it...being a freshman, the upper classmen where easy on the eyes too. If I could only go back in time and not of been so shy and timid....(sigh), I could of had way more fun! But hey, it's not over yet!!!!! :)))

Message: Debbie Lee, sharing in the loss of your father, much sympathy to you. To all Coug's, can you believe the fire situation here in So Cal? There are many alumni living in these areas, hope you are all safe. I'm working on a project for work and these late nights turn into early mornings quick. Do you remember those late nights studying for tests and what we did to stay awake? Any thoughts?
Good question....

Message: Hello John, It was in '61, I and Gene Gutierrez were going South on a wet Hawthorne Blvd in my '40 ford coupe. After a spring shower, which left the highway slick with an oil film, I lost control and started to spin out. I hit two cars parked in front of a bar in Lennox and bent up my front end pretty bad. The guys came out of the bar, one came over and said he had just bought it on the lot next door and was inside for a drink before going home. Well, I took the Olds engine out and bought another '40 and put it into it. The only problem was that it had a dented left front fender. I decided to go to Ford Obsolete to pick up another fender, and guess what? There was my old '40 that I sold for $25 as junk! They wanted, I think, $75 for the remaining good fender! I couldn't bring myself to buy it so I left for home. I never was very business savvy. Times were changing fast and I was happy to just stay in the time zone I was in. I had three '40 Fords all with Olds'. Awhile back I sent you a photo of a '28 Ford shell with Alan Hauge, Danny Kieffer and myself in the photo. This was going to be the coolest rod at the A&W, my last car before joining the Navy. Would you show that photo with this post?
Thanks for the story, Jim. That picture is at the top of page 993.
