Message: John, what I mostly remember about the Plaza theater is carrying my birth certificate to prove I was under thirteen.. At the time I was eleven or twelve, but looked like I worked in the oil fields.. The look came in handy for buying cigarettes and beer, or driving around town without a license.. The last part I'm making up, But, the first part is accurate...Ray
Ray, you always looked 10 years older than you were

Thanks Gar', I think Tom Shelley's mom worked in the cafeteria too.

Message: John, you mentioned the Plaza and reminded me of one of my favorite theater candies. It was a little wafer about the size of a quarter and had different favors in the same tube; kind of chalky but good. I can't remember what they were called. BTW, I liked Flicks. But you're right, not the best chocolate. Oh, and then Raisinettes...!
I remember the little round pill candy but not the name, Tom. I'm sure someone will remember.

Message: OK, I admit it, I'm getting old. I know that because certain "flash back" memories give me a nice warm feeling. For example, long before Men's Warehouse, was Jim Clinton; where a guy could get 3 pair of pants, 2 jackets, (mix or match), 2 pair of socks and a nice tie. All for $59.99. What a deal. And I think Robert Hall had the same deal. Another memory that gives me warm, fuzzys is Boscco or Abba Zabba. Or how about those little wax bottle looking things that you would bite the top off of and drain out the 1/4 oz. of flavored sugar water they contained? I know, I know, another fabulously exciting day in Beaumont, CA. Well, your turn. I'm going to go take a nap!
Geez, I almost forgot how to add a feedback to the server. Thanks Tom for those amazing memory floggers. How about Zachary All? My favorite candy was "Cup O Gold" or "Cherry-a-let" and anyone remember Flicks, the worst tasting chocolate at the Plaza.

Message: "McFarland, USA" is good. Kevin Costner has become a competent character actor. See also "Black or White." I passed through McFarland last week, on CA-99 about 25 miles north of Bakersfield, and circled the town, which takes about five minutes, then transited via Wasco (Rose Festival every September) to Buttonwillow. If you have to visit the Central Valley, Hanford is perhaps the best city. Perhaps you have to live somewhere to like it, as my father used to say about London.

Message: I haven't 'checked-in' here for some time so, Happy Birthday to all of you who deserve it (and there seems to be quite a few!). But the real reason for checking-in is to recommend the movie "McFarland." To any of you who had trouble in P.E. class, who was/is in a 'minority' race and looked to the future and didn't see any, this "McFarland" will be very meaningful to you as it IS based on a true story that took place in the California town of the same name. A great film! See it. Two thumbs Up.

Message: Sidney, the pancake breakfast was delicious, no complaints! My brother made a long, overdue visit with Steve Bierman and I'm sure they all caught up. Beverly Bierman walked away with 2 of the raffle prizes and a choral of Happy Birthday to boot. As for that bottle of Patron, it's become my 'white elephant.' About a year ago, it was originally donated to a VFW raffle from the Moose Lodge. Everyone that wins it donates it back and so I keep putting it in the next raffle over and over again. only to get it back over and over again. Bill Shultz won it outright, and donated it back to me again. Hell, at this point I'd be happy if I could just get a picture of a winner with the Patron to prove that I do try. So, let me know if you need another donation and in it goes again. It's gotten to be a family joke around our house. Maybe I should just have a Patron party and slip it into a good Tequila Sunrise. Had a lot of fun and looking forward to your next event. Sent you a picture of Howie putting the Patron back on the shelf.
The magic Tequila that keeps on giving and giving. Thanks again Judy for all the help on this one. It really did turn out great.

Also thank you Judy and Jan for helping out selling tickets at the VFW and thanks too for your raffle donations. Bill Shultz, who hasn't had a drop for about 30 years, won the Patron Tequila All in all we had a fun day at the Museum. Thanks again to all who came down and hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Message: Happy Birthday cousin Kelley! ..I would ask if this is a big one, but at this point they all are ... Have a good one girl..Hey Howie I listened to Kid Rock's entire album the other day and not a bad song on it. Nothing like good old backbeat rock and roll. But is "First Kiss" another "Blurred Lines" situation?..Sounds a lot like Bryan Adams "Summer of 69". Just sayin'..

Message: So, how come no one is making a fuss over the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday? Jan and I have our tickets and we're dragging my baby brother, Tom DeGrazia, down there as well. If the weather man says rain, it's only water and I've eaten wet pancakes before. I'm being told that tickets are going to be sold at the door for they that didn't purchase them yet. On Saturday, we're celebrating Jan's first official day as a retired man. Now the real fun begins. Hope to see all of you there..we'll be sitting with Sue and Steve Bierman. Get out that silly umbrella hat and be there. I can hardly wait to win the raffle and I always do. This year a hand made quilt and a bottle of Petrone, My knitting will get a whole lot better if I win both prizes. See you there. show them the banner Sid.
We will be cooking pancakes, rain or shine. We'll have tables under the overhang if it's raining. Hope to see all the locals at the Museum Saturday morning.

Message: Clark: I am generally a practicioner of "saying what you mean, and mean what you say" myself. In this case, going with, "You can catch more flies by using honey instead of vinegar" would be a better strategy. It appears we'll have to wait and see what the district's response is. Message: Beautiful day today out on old Halcap field, blue skies, white billowy clouds over Orange County and the mountains and a gentle ocean breeze. The head track coach has asked me to coach the hurdlers this season. pole vault is my expertise but we only grow when we challenge ourselves so it is good for me. Although the head coach is an on campus teacher, the athletes do not get p.e credit for being on the track team. The district won't provide funds for it!! Armand: I met with vice principal Rosalind Varhee last week regarding senior square and she promised to discuss it with the district since she is in charge of HHS facilities and Principal Mark Newall asked me to stay clear of the district. I think he was afraid I would call them clowns right to their faces. He would have been right! I have never been accused of being an introvert.

Message: Ernie Nixon's suppressed memory reminded me of my sole Cougar-sighting, outside of reunion events, that of Ron Fernandez, later Ron Kahn, who was a successful restaurateur, owning several Subway-like sandwich shops in Orange County in the 80s. I visited his store in the Mission Viejo Mall many times thirty-odd years ago. He was at the 25th reunion. He and his younger brother were considerable baseball players, I recall.

Message: I noted with sadness that actress June Fairchild lost her battle with liver cancer. She had featured roles in "Pretty Maids All In A Row", "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and "Up In Smoke". She graduated from Aviation High in Manhattan Beach (she was also prom queen there) and went on to be a Gazzarri dancer. She was credited for coming up with the Three Dog Night's band name. Unfortunately, her alcohol and drug addictions caused her to end up in skid row. But in recent years, she sobered up and her life was on the upswing. She was 68. A memorial fund has been set up:
