Message: Yes, it's Judy's birthday and, Marsha, I did spring for a gift. I do hope she sees the package in the sun room as I wrapped up the cat this morning. But I don't think I made a breather hole for her. That would be a real bad thing since the cat cost over 1K to clean up after we caught her. John...you do have a spare bedroom don't you? Love you, Tillie...
Come on and bring the cat.

Message: I see that today is Judy Wudy's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY,celebrate and have a great day. Howie should spring for a nice present this year and not keep recycling that same ole birthday card every year. See you Sunday at the breakfast.
Janny told me he was going to go into your unmentionable drawer, grab a bra, starch it, iron it to a point, and wrap it up. He is such a romantic guy. Happy Birthday Til', I hope it stirs up the animal in you both.

Message: One of my first cars (if not my 1st) was a '31 Chev. Coupe with a rumble seat that I bought from JB's dad for $250. Completely stock with original mohair upholstery. Six cylinder o/h valves & 3 on the floor. The first thing I did was get Bob Fraser, Mike Shay and my brother Frank and we took off for Santa Barbara. Frank and, I believe, Bob sat in the rumble seat. It must have been winter because it was so cold that my bro. got a terrific cold. But he said he had the time of his life. I think that was the most fun car I ever owned. That's one I wish I still had!
That was the sweetest running 31 Chevy in the world, in 1962. It's probably a Toyota now Thanks Tom for the car story.

Message: Okay, cars. My first was a 1960 Chevy Biscayne. Then came a 65 Dodge Coronett 440 with a 440 police interceptor engine. Then came my pride and joy (which I wish I still had)just after graduation, a 1969 Pontiac GTO.
Nice cars David.

Message: Those of you who have seen David Fincher's new drama, "Gone Girl," will certainly remember the creepy and ominous abandoned mall visited by police in the semi-fictional town of East Carthage, Missouri. The abandoned mall is actually not in Missouri at all, but instead is a "dead mall" in Hawthorne, California.

Message: I really want to thank Wayne & Donna and those who helped put our Class of 1969 45th Reunion together. We were mighty but fewer this time around, but still, it was a lot of fun! Every 5 years seems to be a nice way of keeping old friendships alive & well rather than waiting 10 years between reunions. It was great to see a few surprises show up that haven't been to any of the past reunions. So, I just want to say that those who missed this one, hopefully will surely make the 50th as we all go back a long way thru our childhood & high school to share memories and catch up on the present. Times change but good memories don't. Catch you all at the next one!
Thanks Paul, glad you had a fun night with your class.

Message: We need a few more car stories. Whats up today as well as old stories. If I still had all my cars from years past they would be worth much more than I paid for them. 65 Comet, 66 Ranchero 289 4-speed, 72 Duster 340, 60 Pontiac Ventura 389 tri-power 4-speed. 74 Chevy p/u,and the one and only remaining car,the 73 Nova 250 L-6 Powerglide. This car is still running with the original engine and trans. Smogged and registered on the road every year since new.(Built at the old Van Nuys GM plant.) Had 19,000 miles when bought from original owner in 1986. Has over 200,000 on it now-refuses to die! When that happens I got plans to hop up the original motor for more power.Already re-worked the suspension with all new performance parts. Heavy duty anti-sway bars front and rear. Handles like a sports car now.Lots of fun. Gets alot of looks because of the 6-cyl.Most people are into V8s but I dare to be different. Makes sense these days to have an old car that gets good mileage and is totally reliable. Now sporting new Cragar S/S mag wheels, oh yeah! During the last Hot August Nights in Reno I took the car to the autocross track they set up.What a blast that was. Reminds me of hanging corners in Haytown back in the day. Only safer and legal! Nice to let it all hang out and not woory about cops. Looking forward to next year. Any and all car stories are cool. I know theres a lot of Cougartown gearheads out there. Still cruising in N. Nevada. Best Wishes to all! B.C.73 old car
Thanks Robert but I'd be going with a V8 in the Nova. More car stories please.

Message: Now that 1975 and earlier cars are not inspected, and our kids are grown and out of the house, is anyone else getting back into cars/hot rods? I gave us in the 70s because we really couldn't do much in California, but now we can make insane HP in the cars we loved in our youth, and thanks to bolt-on superchargers and EFI, have all the power we (reasonably) want and still have a very drivable car. I still miss Lions Drag Strip. I vaguely remember hearing the AAFDs on Saturday nights (maybe low clouds capturing the sound?) from Hawthorne?
I never did hear Lions but sure could hear the Sprinters and Midgets at Ascot and earlier at Gardena Speedway.

Message: Here's a COUGAR sighting that will be hard to top. I was sitting on the steps of a 15th century cathedral in Orvieto Italy while on a tour of the Tuscany region, and engaged a lovely lady in conversation who was on the same tour. Turns out its Melodie Makin HHS '65. That's a long way to go to see a Cougar (6,353 miles).

Now THAT IS a Cougar Sighting Jim, Thanks man.

Message: Thank you Jim. Yes, I wrote about my 2007 near-death accident and recovery, and also included family stories. It happened just after my dad died and we Merc sibs had just gone through the Hawthorne home (123rd Place) where we had all grown up. We had to decide what to do with everything my parents had saved - which was EVERYTHING since we were born - every school project, every Little League and Pop Warner program, every letter we'd sent during college, every birthday card we'd given them. You get the idea. Lots of Cougar newspapers. Anyway, if anyone cares to learn more, here's the press release from the publisher: . The 69 reunion is this Friday. If the book had been released a bit earlier as planned, I would have flown to Hawthorne to attend (and autograph 1000s of books for you all. hahaha).
Thanks Ken and good luck with your book.

Message: Happy Birthday to a special lady, Mary Sloan. So nice to see you last weekend along with Rich. I usually don't go to other class reunions, but getting to see my old pal Sherry Barton made the trip well worthwhile! If laughter is a medicine, I am good for years! So nice also to meet some '64ers I did not remember and those I did. Leo V was one of them, very fascinating guy! Also Jeff A and April H so nice to spend time with you in setting up, etc. The tour of the campus on Sunday was a real treat too. I will echo what everyone has already said, Glenn did a fabulous job! He is the party planner extraordinaire. Rich thank you for taking so many wonderful pictures especially of me and Coach Jones, he is just one great guy. Thank you for letting me join in the fun.
