Message: Kahuna John: I have none of the HHS trophies that used to be displayed in Nyman Hall. The glass cases were smashed and maintenance put them all in the attic of the maintenance shed. I found them there in 2005 in poor condition and removed them all and with alumni help we cleaned and polished them all and they were returned to Principal Newall. He has all of them. Take it up with him. I do have the track record board and am having it rekeyed and correcting a few dates and it will be displayed in the cafeteria this fall.
So is it Principal Newell's opinion that HHS started in 2000? I will talk to him about the your returned trophies, Clark.

Message: With all the chatter about coach Semon I've had HHS on my my mind, so ten days ago I stopped in at HHS to say hi to principal Mark Newall and see what was new. Mark had wisely snuck out of town for a three day break before the big push for the fall. Vice principal Jill Waggoner and administrator Blaine Watson gladly did a sit down with me to update me. The buildings on the east side of campus bordering Inglewood Ave. are complete and ready for occupancy the first week of August and include the new science building and the engineering lab. Gangs are fast becoming only a memory on the HHS campus thanks to administrative efforts. The new mindset program at HHS is called LEAP. There are posters everywhere that say all HHS students should display (L) Leadership, (E) empathy, (A) Achievement), (P) Participation, and(S) Safety. There is very little of the old campus left but I got the warm fuzzies seeing Nyman Hall intact and the boys gym and girls gyms. Finally, when you enter the administration building, the first thing you hit are built in trophy cases. They are filling up quickly with the band earning a majority of the awards, No trophies pre-2000. I guess it make sense for the kids to take pride in current achievements. The campus does look good and very modern. Now if the athletic programs can become competitive again everything will be going in the right direction.
The reason no trophies pre 2000 is because you have those Clark I get asked all the time, what happened to our trophies and I say Clark Millman have them. We need those in a special place at Hawthorne High. It is part of the school's history. Clark, your next assignment is to gather all our trophies and get them in a case at HHS.

I would love that Tom, thanks man.

Message: John -- looking for a extra large petite Cougartown Tee with a Nehru collar? Times are tough here in Oregon -- will you barter? I still have a book of ride tickets from Disneyland that I didn't use on Grad-Nite as I was otherwise occupied (nudge nudge wink wink). I did use the Mad Hatter's Tea Cup ride ticket, but the "E" ride tickets are still intact and hopefully valid.
Sorry Jim, that's the only ride I like. Thanks man.

Message: Weird Cougar internet sighting! So I went into a random chatroom a couple of nights ago, and this guy starts mentioning that he lives in Riverside. So, though I am in NY now, I mentioned that I grew up in S. Cal. and was even coming to a reunion in September. So he says "where?" So I say, you've probably never heard of it---Hawthorne. And he says, you're kidding. My wife and her 2 brothers went there! We had a good time chatting about what to wear to a reunion in CA---he was a very funny guy. I don't remember his name, but he did say one of his brother-in-laws was Ron Bailey. I told him that they all should show up at the class of 64 reunion and we could all pretend like we knew each other. Small world, huh?
Yes it is Pat. I talked to a girl teller at the bank yesterday as I was making a deposit. She saw Cougartown on one of the checks and asked what that meant. I told her that it was an alumni website for HHS. She said didn't the Beach Boys go to that school and I said yes, with me. She thought I was a Rock Star. She called another teller over, who is, I guess, a big Beach Boy fan and we all chatted about Brian, Carl and especially Dennis for 10 minutes. I thought they were going to ask for MY autograph.

Message: OK! I'm a little late posting about the great time I had last Saturday, the car show was great, but the live concert by Hawthornes own Chris Montez was even better. I lived across the street from (Zeke) Chris. I was 10 when he first hit the pop scene. What a great ambassador to the pop music world. He talked to, shook hands with, took pictures & signed anything for every fan that wanted it. His time was theirs. OK Cougartown people! Now we need to shake our memories and start sending in our dues to keep this website active. John Baker has worked hard and will continue his efforts. Please make your $10.00 a year dues current. Also class of 69, don't forget. October 11 at Toni's pizza REUNION. Tell all class members to be there. Thanks to everyone
Thanks Wayne for the shameless dues plug and yes, Chris was the most hospitable guy to everyone who wanted to get close. He was signing everything from Yearbooks to albums to 45s. What a fun fun fun weekend it was. Wayne, please email me your address and phone updates and I will fix you up.

Message: Forgot to mention that if you watch The Goldbergs, Soupy Sales is the next program after that. Then later is Dinah Shore, Jack Benny and some other goodies. It's a treasure chest full of great TV legends. All the other Jewish programs in between will help you make a good and prosperous bar mitzvah. You won't be sorry you found the station. There something for everyone.

Message: For Mother Baker... I just have to mention that THE GOLDBERGS is a new program these days, but if you tune into Jewish TV on channel 366 on Direct TV at 10:00 am and you can check out the former and original GOLDBERGS, starring Gertrude Berg. It's from the mid 50's and just a riot to watch and a real trip down memory lane. Sponsors are Gerital and Juvital, (one for the old and one for the young), Ship and Shore and a few others that will fire up your brain cells... and she talks about the whole thing from her living room window in NY. And Sid, if it gets much hotter, I'll call you over for dinner as Jan won't let me turn on the A/C for just 2 people.. 3 or more is OK. Makes perfect sense to me.
Rent out a room for the summer.

Wonderful that this type of thing can happen-especially after celebrating our "50th", last October. Was good to read about the bittersweet "sendoff" for our Coach Sid Semon. We will truly miss him! Message: Coach Semon's send off was really well attended. He was respected far and wide. We were so lucky to go school where we did and to have men like this mold us into the successful people we all became. It was great to see all the HHS Alumni and Teachers and Coaches. Clark named them all. And then on the way out I saw two of my favorites Coach T and Science Teacher John Andrade. It was great to see Coach T in 4 years of Playing Tennis with Him I never beat him!
