Message: Little Jimmy Schroeder's insight on nomenclature raises a Cougartown curiosity that has always peaked my interest. Subsequent to our youth as Hawthorenian Cougarians, to what ports of call have we ventured and called home. For instance. I know that as an Oregonian, little Jimmy has resided as a Prospectian, a Bandonian (as I), a Coos Baynian (as I) and a Central Pointian. As for this Oregonian, home has never been more that a thousand miles from my Hawthornenian roots, nor have I ever nested more than five miles from the Pacific Ocean. I guess I'm just a West Coast kinda guy. And You?
Chris, I guess that also makes you a Pacific Oceanian. I have never bedded down further than 11 miles from my Haytownian roots and am now a Lomitaite. I do know Chris Prewitt is now a Disneylander.

Message: I ponder the nomenclature of people from different areas of the Universe. A person from Mars is a Martian for example. Some one from Mississippi is a Mississippian or from California is a Californian. Digging deeper, We have Hawthornians, Los Angelinos, Redondins. Following that line of thinking is a person who went to Ramona a Roman? I attended York. Am I a Yorkie or a Yorkarian? What if you attended Eucalyptus? This is a good opening for some funny lines (John), but it is also my quest for self-actualization. I want to know. And oh-yeah. A good book for our generation is "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid," by Bill Bryson. He describes the 50's to a tee, and it's pretty funny stuff.
Jim, I am a Yorkatarian, Hawthorne Christianite, and a Intermediatarian.
Also, I have read the life and times of the Thunderbolt Kid and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am currently reading Bill Bryson's other book, The Lost Continent. You do not have to be from Des Moine to thoroughly enjoy these. Actually his humor is alot like yours, Jim. I can see why you liked the book. Another one you'll like if you liked Thunderbolt is "Sh*t my Dad says" by Justin Halpern.

Message: Don't know if this can be a Cougar sighting, as it happened over 40 years ago. When we were on our way to Washington to visit my grandparents, we pulled into a Shell station in northern California. The attendant looked at me and said, I know you. It was Darrel Blakesley c/o 63.
OK, that's a Cougar sighting but the statute of limitations might be in the grey area Thanks Ernie.

Hi Karen, always nice to see our Cougar friends, no matter the situation. Glad you two got together. See you on Cruise Night, only 3 weeks away.

Message: I know I've shared this story before, but I just have to once more since St. Paddy's day is coming up. When I attended St. Joe's school, all the nuns and priests were hard core Irish. Frs. Mulvahill, Redahan, McCarthy. (how's that for an Irish lineup). So St. Patrick's day was 'big time' and it was always about being Irish. I was so proud of my Irish heritage!! I loved Ireland, the mother land, the wearing of the green, the rainbows and all the Irish songs they made us sing. Then one day my mom told me that I was not Irish and that 'we people' are Italian. I was shocked and never really got over it. I always thought that we were just a nice Irish family that happened to liked pizza and spaghetti a lot and that mom and dad just pick up the Italian language some where along the road. SEE YOU SUNDAY AT THE VFW BREAKFAST!
Maybe your family came from the Irish part of Italy. See you tomorrow. Green eggs and corned beef.

Message: In honor of Pi Day, I salute all my math teachers at HHS, especially Mr. Ashley. He was the first teacher who authored a text book I used in class. His math book had all the answers in the right column hidden by fuzzy red squiggles. Each book had a red plastic see thru filter card you would place over that area to read the answer. All new books came with a 8 1/2" long red plastic card. During the year, lots of students lost their cards and so the ones that had one would have to cut theirs in half and give them the other half so they could read the answers. By the end of the year, you were lucky to have a 1" long strip left, which you guarded with your life. Mr. Ashley, I will celebrate you by enjoying a Marie Callender pie on Pi Day.
Happy Pi (or pie) day, Tom.

Message: My experience with the 'Multi-Year' reunion committee has shown me that there are a significant number of HHS Cougars that enjoy a great glass of wine. (No I am not saying the alumni are winos.) I wanted to report that my classmate Teresa Hamman-Greenberg introduced me to a great winery last fall in Temecula that any wine loving Cougar should visit. It is called "the Cougar Winery" and if you visit and a nice lady named Susan is behind the counter tell her you are a Cougar sent by Terry Hamman and Eric Larson (both HHS Class of 70). I encourage you to try their Sangiovese if you prefer red and the Pinot Grigio if you like white. They offer many other flavors but these two are my favorites. If you visit I think you will be in agreement that this enterprise upholds the Cougar standard. The reason for my posting today is because they have held their grand opening of a new tasting room and Sunday they will be having quite a celebration. May the Cougar be with you.
