Message: John, I didn't get to read what you wrote but I think Randy Hood put it into words so that I have a pretty good idea what was in it. Randy is right on and your response to him is absolutely correct in my opinion. Hang in there John.
Thanks for the support Cindy.

Message: Would it help us if everyone was required to have some first aid, CPR, basic medical training (only those who are capable of such training) and also as a civic duty to be required to work as a volunteer in a local hospital for a period of 6 months before we move on to college, join the military, or proceed further with our training? Perhaps setting up MASH-type units at strategic locations to handle trauma cases would also help and medical professionals would be required to donate 5 to 10 percent of their efforts to support these units.
The "EVERYONE WAS REQUIRED" thing is exactly what I am talking about. I do not want anyone requiring me to do anything I'm not interested in. It could be hazardous to the guy I'm using it on

Message: A rebuttal to Conservative nonsense to Kathy's expression/opinion. I for one was fortunate to see and read with pleasure a refresher to what you; John posted with reserve what our Constitution says from a Constitutional Lawyer. As an individual, one tries to take in whatever flavor of news in from different sources, and form an opinion. Like the newspaper reading of yesterdays "Opinion Section". I for one listen to both sides of the news, and that forms the party who you rally for and vote. Then what concerns my views, I take to the voting booth. When over 45% of my pay is extracted to pay for abused systems, I know were to pay Caesars what is Caesars, but when career politicians (Both Sides of the aisle), don't even know what's inside of a law that's 2 1/2 times the size of the Bible containing over 20,000 pages of regulations, and here Reps like Pelosi just pass it, you'll like it no matter what, that's troublesome! There's a "Bridge over Troubled Waters" when the Three Branches of Government are being channeled into one Branch/One man with an obsession of Executive Orders. I'm one for what our Founding fathers intended and on what's printed on the money you spend. I'll send an extra CT Due$ when it's time, and I won't consider it a Tax, but a privilege!
The Constitution is what we need to protect right now. If we do that, I believe, the rest will take care of itself. Yes the point in my feedback (now taken down) was that if the Legislative branch is rendered useless, that leaves a President (any President) to make the laws. In my mind, if there are 30 to 50 million people without health care, deal with that group and leave the other 250 to 270 million people to the health care they now have and like. The way I see it is the 3000 page Healthcare bill (and you are correct, no Congressman or Senator would read that and understand it completely) is not about health care at all, but about power. Let's rewrite the thing for the people who really need it and leave the rest of the people out of it.
To put it another way, If 30 to 50 million people were starving, instead of dealing with the 30-50 million, the Government would set up free food stations all over the country where EVERYONE would get their food. You might not like the food but that would be the only place you could get your food. In my opinion, that is not a free society.
Just my thoughts and know others have their own opinion.

Message: You think you got a lot of heat John, I sent that to my homosexual, Buddhist, middle of the road daughter, and her liberal social worker partner. Did I leave any classification out? Always a Cougar, no matter what party is leading the USA.

Message: John Boy, Maaaan!!!, you finally showed some balls and posted a personal conservative view, that you were I'm sure raised and brought up with as your parents intended when you grew up in Hawthorne. However, as soon as an Ohio dead beat and a few other C-town Liberals challened you, you caved. You know in your heart you did nothing wrong, just voiced an opinion. This is the problem we have in America today, their are to many dead beats that want to live off of the Government (taxpayers) money, i.e. Obamacare, foodstamps & whatever else they can get for free. I worked 30 years + to get where I am today and it's sad to watch all the Obama lovin dead beats living off of my endeavors. Now, post this, I can take the heat, because I know I'm right too. Jorge
George, I would normally just erase your post, like I normally do, and no one would be the wiser but your comments are exactly why this country is so polarized. No one will talk rationally to the other side and comments like yours are exactly why people think Repubs are back woodsy and bigoted. I'm proud of my parents and the way I was brought up. God, who were your parents? No need to reply, George.

Message: Even though this is a High School related web-site, our sensitivities can't be as fragile as they were when we attended dear old HHS. To say you are going to boycott the web site because you read something that offended you is a bit, "highschoolish" to say the least. Ease-up on the reins a bit and you will enjoy the ride a little more. Soldier on big John.
Thanks Ron, I will do just that man.

Message: Well John I must have missed the hullabaloo over an article you posted. I am rather saddened by the people who turned on you for just having an opinion piece. This is YOUR site, you created it, you administer it and spend countless hours developing it to deliver info to the rest of us. I doubt you need a lecture or need to be chastened. If folks need to leave over something as trivial as that, then leave!! Respect is a two-way street and forgiveness and tolerance is sadly lacking in a lot of folks today. Peace out!
Thanks Debbie, It just seems to me that the whole country is split up along political lines today. I remember folks having republican friends and democrat friends and could talk about the days happenings without immediately hating someone for what they thought. Heck if everyone had the same opinion it wouldn't be a very interesting world. I just lost two very good friends that have been on Cougartown pretty much since it started and I'm pretty saddened by that. All because I must have had a different opinion than they had. In my world, years ago, that would've never have happened.

Message: John, re your posting on Obamacare. I for one believe in reading both sides of any opinion and do not close my mind to liberal or conservative ideals. One must take all writings or speeches with a grain of salt and do their own research and make up their own minds. Being insulted having to read a conservative article and never signing onto Cougartown again or being upset just because it was posted is showing either a closed mind or a inmature one. I'm glad you posted it as it gave me many things to try and get informed about. Google here I come, lol. Carole
Thanks Carole and I'm sure Kathy will be back as she's too good a friend.

Message: John, since you broke your own rule you should also post this which included your post "All such pronouncements were the opinions of their issuers: in June 2012, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of "Obamacare" health care reform legislation". Everyone has an opinion which I accept but I tune in to CT to get away from it all and enjoy a moment or two of friends from high school. I think you made a mistake. Take these issues to FB.
Hi Bob, Yes but Facebook is full of "I hate President Obama" or "I hope all the children of this or that Conservative die a horrible death". Facebook is full of hater speech. I do not hate any of you and now feel it was a big mistake to post this here. I'm very sorry to all who were offended. I wouldn't want to offend any of our Ctowners and totally respect all of your views. It wasn't my intent to make you all mad at me, just to look at what we could be giving up as Americans.

Message: Well i just read Cougartown and was shocked to see it used as a political forum. I completely disagree with Mr. Connellys assessment and narrowminded view of the healthcare act. I for one will be signing off Cougartown forever so i will not have to read anymore conservative nonesense.
Kathy, this is exactly why I didn't want to put this up, for fear people would think it was a political statement. I wouldn't care if this bill was written by Ronald Reagan, it is the constitutionality of the bill. I am not slamming President Obama here in any way. He didn't personally write the bill. It's the constitution part I'm worried about. If you're a Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian or anything else, I am not slamming your views at all. Just wanted to pass this along as it is very important. I really don't care what party you are affiliated with, I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS MAAAANN!!

Message: I'm pleased to report that I drove by the HHS campus about an hour ago and the Halcap sign is back in its rightful lace on the press box on the football field. I think anyone who sees it will agree that it looks every bit as good as the first day it went up fifty years ago. Three classes get credit for the renovation: class of'66 represented by Lee Leonard who spotted the problem and made me aware of it, class of'73 (excluding Tom Leeman) represented by Doug Herbst who provided transportation of the sign and provided a garage for the summer for the actual renovation, and the class of '76 represented by me as I did all the actual painting. When the rebuild of the school is complete there will be few things to remind us of the school we attended, only the boys gym, the football field and the Halcap sign in tribute to both coach Hal Chauncey and coach Dave Capelouto.
Great job Clark and all the represented classes. Makes me proud to be a Cougar.
