Message: I saw Bob Fraser's post that Ron Arias was in town for his mom's 94th birthday. I got to visit with Lou Arias in 2007 when we had to sell the Merc home of 53 yrs, and we had a little get-together. We were close neighbors there at Sundale and 123rd Place, and her family was the original owner. Lou told interesting stories of what everything looked like when she moved there in about 1950. She indeed is a beautiful woman.
What I remember was Ronny's Packard. Would love a picture of that car. Thanks Ken

Message: I just read Jim Schroeder's comment about renting teardrops from the Kiddieland place and being a teardrop owner, it just stuck in my mind as I headed up to Lake Perris for the annual rally. There were over 100 trailers, both new builds and vintage, at the event this year. Imagine my surprise when I spotted the green and aluminum trailer with Hawthorne, CA on the back. The lady who owns it now bought it in 2008 from a guy in Simi Valley...she didn't know any history of it beyond that and was pleased to hear my Cougartown story. Maybe someone here can confirm if there is a link to the Boyce family.
It has been confirmed below, Laura, thanks again for the picture.

Message: More bad news---Just learned that our friend of 50 years, Kay (Tromley) Arnold (HHS Class of 1959) passed away on Saturday, March 23rd at her home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made but for those of you who may want to know, I will post where and when her services will be held. As you may remember, Kay's husband Bill Arnold (also Class of 1959) died last July 30th. Bill and Kay leave a son John and daughter Tracey and four grandchildren.
Sad News Barney but thanks for the information.

Message: I visited with Ron Arias (class of '60) yesterday. He is visiting from Arizona to help celebrate his mother's 94th birthday! She is one beautiful woman. Also wanted to let you all know that there is a concert coming up on April 19th at the Lawndale High School Performing Arts Center. The line up will be Dennis Tufano (former lead singer of the Buckinghams), Ron Dante (the Archies), Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods and a girl group called the Wonderelles. Let's make this show a real success so there can be more shows. Tickets are $30.00. Details at tunestub.com/centennial-park.
Thanks Bob, Sounds like a fun night out for our local Ctowners.

Message: Happy BD to my old bongo playing friend, John Fredrickson. One of the first boys I met when I got to HHS. (he was the mystery man back then, and very quiet). Still in touch with this old bud daily after all these years. Thanks for the song JB, I'm still doing the Calypso/Chacha around the bedroom floor when I hear it. See you Cruise Night. Play that song there and we'll form a Conga line.
Happy Birthday John!! Not exactly calypso music Judy, Miriam Makeba was African

Message: Larry, I remember that place. I think we called it 'Tinker Town". It was there before side walks on Haw. Blvd were in and my Dad would take my brother and me to the "little store" on 130st and Inglewood Ave. with $0.25 to spend at both places. Sugar rush and rides.

Message: I was forced at (cap)gun point to ride that Octopus. Still having bad dreams. Didn't they rent teardrop trailers from that Kiddieland place?
The teardrop trailer rental was just south of Kiddieland and was owned by the Boyce family. I see Mrs. Boyce regularly at the Hawthorne VFW breakfast. Her son Larry was in your class.

Yes I do Lar'. The Octopus was the closest to a "get sick" ride they had and my cousin and I wore that thing out

Message: Sharon Branigan: Aren't you the one who brought the excellent Flan for all of us to partake in at Cruise Night? If I'm mistaken on this, will the real 'cook' please stand up. I last recall you made a trip to Hawaii, loved it and now you're in the South...Georgia, where colors abound in both the flowers and those amazing birds as well. You need to know your sense of humor and great spirit are missed out here in the West.
Doris Donaldson: My friend Forrest Summers doesn't work in a hardware store; he runs 'Summers Plumbing' in Idaho Falls. (And here I thought I knew everything....my bad!) Good luck on finding that warmth!

Message: Thank you Doris and JB for remembering me! 2300 miles gone, but not forgotten.. I can't believe it's been 1 1/2 years since we moved to GA. Keeping very busy, and sneaking up on our second Southern Spring. It's so beautiful here all year; but especially in the spring, when all the flowering colors just EXPLODE. White, yellow, pink, purple, orange, everywhere! And I'm enjoying the beautiful red, orange and yellow birds in the tree outside my office. We miss our friends and family! But we love the South so much, we may never leave!
Hi Sharon, With all those colors sounds like you're remembering the '70s. Just kidding.....kinda.
Glad you and the 2 Mikes are happy back in GA and you forgot to mention how you just love the size of those Southern Bugs in the Summertime or the WONDERFUL humidity I honestly miss the hell out of you guys and since you left your "Shipper Sharon" position at Cougartown I haven't sold a single Cougartown Tshirt. Maybe you'll surprise us, like Doris did, and fly in for a Cruise Night sometime. That'll happen before I see your sister, now that her little Poppy is here. Ahhhh I tell ya' life was alot simpler back in the 90s. Stay well Branigans. WE LOVE YOU GUYS MAAAANN!!!!

Message: Our friend Ken Mercurio just added his 1967 El Molino to the collection at Classmates.com, and his brother Rick may add his 1971 yearbook to it. If our fellow Cougars from the late 50s and the early 70s could add their books, the collection would be complete, 1953-1988. Anyone can see the yearbooks online, without either joining or signing in to the website. However, Classmates would like to sell its expensive reprints of the books. I received a free, one-year membership and a $25 coupon for Amazon when I submitted my 1969 El Molino.
Thanks John

Message: So, tomorrow is the Hawthorne VFW breakfast held from 9-11:30am & held on St. Paddy's day! So, you say you want to be in a place that has a St. Paddy's day green beer (ugh and ugh again) and so we'll have just that in our canteen and you can bring your drink into the tank while you eat breakfast. This is a very special day for me as I believed I was Irish until I was 12 anyway... Catholic school had me accepting that, as all the priests and nuns were Irish. All we did was talk about Ireland and the wearing of the green--and sing "My name is MacNamara." I just thought my family was dark Irish people that just happened to like pizza. I'm still Irish in my heart. See you there and I'll be serving tomorrow. I assure you that you can't eat all we serve for $8.00--(except for Clark Millman - but we use powdered eggs for his order to offset the 3 omelets he goes back for after the first dish). See you there JB. Happy BD Lee Leonard.
I'll be there Til and Happy Birthday Lee!!!
