Message: Frank Romano was a student in my 9th grade General Science class during my first year at Hawthorne. He is one of those students that you never forget. He decided to stop by my apartment on El Segundo Blvd. one afternoon just to visit and say "Hi". He was so mature and only in the 9th grade. We reconnected on Cougartown several years ago. He will never be forgotten and is just one of the many students who enriched my life.
Hi Bob, Frank was a great guy. I too will miss him very much.

That's what we're all about here in Ctown Karen, glad you reconnected.

Message: Today is the final day to make a reservation for the 66/67 Reunion. Our final number is due to Marriott at 10am tomorrow along with a check for that number. We have 82 people at this point and it looks like we are going to have a great time. Think "Drop-In" dances from the mid-60's. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Message: Frank Romano's obituary is in todays Las Vegas Review-Journal. Besides his wife Maria, he leaves 3 children, his brother John, and 9 grandchildren, with the 10th grandchild due the end of this month. If you would like to leave the family a message, there is a guest book to sign. I met Frank when he came around the corner of Ramona to our street, 138th, to ask if anyone here, wanted to come out and play. I was 5, my sister 8, my brother 10. He was so handsome and nice. I never forgot him. The year? 1954. Rest in peace my friend.
Thanks Lois for the story and the obituary.

Message: I am sorry to report the passing of Lloyd Trotter, last Tuesday. He was my dear Del Aire neighbor and my friend. I am certain that many boys and their families lives were touched by Lloyd as a result of his passion for Little League Baseball especially the Aviation League. Share with me as I send my love to Sylvia, Jim, Mike, Jeff, Colleen and their families. Always in my heart.
Sorry for your loss, Kathy.

Message: Hello Cougars Hope everyone is having a good time doing fun things this summer. I just saw a play called Oklahoma Sat. nite at the Gran Theatre here in San Pedro. It was enjoyable and a great job well done by the High school and middle school students. On Oct. 14th will be a tribute band called Long Run doing the Eagles at the annex on 6th St. Hope to see some Cougar Eagle fans and it's air conditioned. Question, Did Frank Romano have a Brother named Richie? Could ya answer back here at Cougartown since my email is not working at present. At Disneyland Holiday mansion will be mid Sept. and everyone is enjoying the New Cars attraction at Ca Adventure. Love to all Cathie
Hi Cathey, Not real sure but think Frank was an only child. Someone else may know the answer.

Message: Cougar Sighting. Redondo at Arico's - bumped into Dorothy Johnson Slawson. She's taking it so well that I've had a terrible crush on her husband (Dick) since high school. She always says she'll kiss him for me. Then, last night at VFW Bingo, Mary Plater Vaughn and Jack Nelson Vaughn drove all the way in from Arizona to join us. Mary waltzed away with over $130.00 in winnings. See you all on Aug 19 for the VFW breakfast, and yes Sid, this was a double plug, the 2 "B's" BINGO AND BREAKFAST.
Good one Judy, thanks, and see you on the 19th.

Message: Condolences to Frank's family - our family goes way back to with his via Ramona School and HSD. Blessings to the Sloey clan - y'all can never have enough precious babies. Henry Cooper's obit was a very touching. Weather's cooled off a little here - it's been so hot the senior and junior high football coaches eliminated two-a-day practices and only practice in the early AM. The players stay in shape over the summer with required off-season in the weight room and area team camps and state-wide 7-on-7 tournaments. Two week dead time around the Fourth. Not much time for family vacations. School opens here August 20th. Yes, it's a whole different world here! And, I've got to figure out a way to "FIGHT ON!" this season while I'm calling the Hogs!

As to Clark I too received your plea and have agreed to send to Jose Juan Fernando Allegre Menendez Fernandez 10 per cent of the 20 million I just inherited from Uncle Alfred who managed to find himself in Nigeria just before his demise. Just pay the $35,000 transfer tax. Uncle Alfred? Love you to john, you da maaaaan!
I paid the $35,000 tax too. Still waiting for the $145,000,000,000 to show up. Guess it's the post office holding things up like they always do.

Message: We were blessed with another grandson Wednesday at 6:50 PM albeit a premature birth of 3 months, Little Elijah is 15 3/4 inches and weighs in at 3 pounds and is a total stud. Everything is going well and we welcome all your prayers! Thank you and in the words of my favorite comedian of all time, Red Skelton, MAY GOD BLESS!
If it wasn't for your family reproducing we'd never hear from you. How many grandkids is that now, 17 or 18? I lost count. Can you remember all their names or do you have a cheat sheet app on your Ipad? Are there any more fertilized Sloey eggs we should know about? Call the Vatican, I'm sure you could get a certificate of appreciation. I heard this morning that the Democrats have already set up a committee to convene in January of 2032 - How To Thwart The Sloey Vote.

Frank passed away today at Desert Springs Hospital. My heart is so heavy with grief and I am glad that Frank got to know all of you through this life.
Very sorry to hear your news, Maria. For all who didn't know Frank Romano's story, he received a heart from a mid 20s man about 15 to 20 years ago. Frank was given a couple of decades and always felt very blessed by his extended life. You were a good friend, Frank, may you rest in peace.

Message: FAREWELL HENRY COOPER: If you have not taken the time to check the OB piece referenced below by Leo Ainsworth, it is worth doing so. It provides insight into Henry the person, graphically illustrating the interesting and fulfilling life he lived. This "Carpenter of the Redwoods" and "Honorary Mayor of Cambria" was a true Twainesque character who floated below the radar living in rural NorCal. Henry, I never knew you, but do look forward to the day I visit your new bar, undoubtedly crafted out of tall redwood, and enjoy your pouring a tall, cold one and holding court with your buddies. I suspect you will have more than a few great stories to tell.

Message: Its been a while since i made any comments but seeing the plans for Hawthorne High is bitter sweet. The comments made by some person is sad its not because we live in the past its because we remember the positive things of days gone by. Everything changes i will miss the old school but this change is for the best. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.
Hey James, thanks for your thoughts and welcome back.

Message: Hey John, Endless Summer is here and of course I LLLOOOOVVVEEE YOOOOUUU MAAAANN!!!! As far as HHS demolition &c. goes, I am wondering, couldn't we retail old bricks of it as a fundraising gesture--and re-stack it in various places around the world? Kind of like what they did to the Berlin Wall! Those bricks after all are hallowed, and represent a lot of personal achievement, growth, and even extraordinary crisis to us...I know I would bid up the price of a cinder block from Building 6 (Latin) or Building 19 (Cougar Staff) to at least a price that would make it worthwhile for someone else to purchase. Man, what a discussion to have--what to do about the demolition of your own school. Here's my other idea: as the signature spot of the old school was Senior Square, which is not really preservable as it has had many incarnations anyway, why not focus all attention on the re-design of this single component? That honors the spirit of the old but allows for the welcome shock of the new to reverberate all around it. Let whatever happens to the school happen--except for the old square, now somewhat unrecognizable anyway, but put together a group of alumni "stakeholders" who are fluid with architectural issues to work as a kind of committee for Preserving the Square. Peace and Boat Drinks to You All Summer Long, Maaaannn!
Hey joseph, good thoughts...now we need someone to head it all up and since you brought it up, I'm looking square at you know who whattayathink? Actually Rich Sloan gathered up some administration building blocks last week. We could start there.

Message: Just returned from SoCal, where my wife and I attended Bill Arnold's (Class of 1959) funeral services (Aug.2nd). Bill passed away on July 30th from a very severe case of Parkinsons Disease. It took the doctors a while to diagnose just what it was that Bill had but it took Bill very fast. Bill is survived by his wife Kay (Tromley), wife of 51 years, also class of 1959, his son John and daughter Tracie. Bill wanted his body to be given to science, so that this type of the disease could be studied. I know anyone who knew Bill will miss him.
Thanks Barney. Rest in Peace, Bill.
