Message: I just read about the first commercial space flight being sent to the International Space Station, by SpaceX. "The company's Mission Control (is) in Hawthorne, Calif." That's awesome for little, ol' Hawthorne.
Yep, SpaceX is in one of the old Northrop buildings at Hawthorne Airport. Great company from what I've heard.

Message: Hey Lois, I don't remember a pay trampoline but I remember P.E. in '58 or '59. I had a hard time mounting it. I remember we had to do a somersault, jump and roll on our back. Coach Plum said, "Fraser, it's just mind over matter, but in your case, too much matter."
Funny Bob.

Message: More pranks...Driving Donna V.'s old car down the main road inside H.H.S., (was it called "Hawthorne Highway"?) on the weekend...what can I say, we were bored..taking our squirt guns cruising and squirting the people in the car next to us, some would try and chase us, but my lil black 63 Falcon Futura never let us down..we never got caught..again, bored...
Karmann Ghias had windshield squirters pressurized by the spare tire. If you pumped that spare up to about 65psi and took some pliers and turned the squirters toward the curb you could hose down every pedestrian for miles and they had no clue where the water was coming from. Great fun driving through LAX

Message: Jerry-speaking of trampoline lawsuits, My trampoline story was a former classmate Kathy DeLisle (69) was jumping at the pay trampoline place, (I think it was the one by the liquor store) and as she was bouncing, her leg slipped in between the trampoline and the springs (in the hole). She broke her leg-it was a pretty bad break, seemed like she wore that leg cast forever..so Kathy, if you read this, feel free to "jump in" with your own version of this story! And Jerry, you brought back a memory of the leftover holes left unfilled..It is weird they didn't fill them.....

Message: As for high mileage cars...My first car was a 1962 VW bug but the speedometer was one of the many things that did not work. In 1991 I bought a 1979 Volvo 240 wagon that ran well for over 225K miles. In 1996 I bought and still currently have a 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon clocking in at 291K Miles. The Volvo people have a High Mileage Club...not to be confused with the Mile High Club, of which I am sure many Cougars are also members. (If you live in Denver, you can belong to both!) Volvo sends a medalion out to me for each 100,000 miles. I am due for the 300,000 Mile Medalion! Awesome cars....And I like to say, "if it doesn't fit in the Volvo, I probably don't need it." I think I'll just keep it as a farm truck if someday I have to buy a new car. Like Tom Nadal, I don't need to carry kids and all their stuff to all their events anymore, but I do like to carry all my outdoor toys with me to play in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Any thoughts on a modern day, high mileage potential car?
Lot of mileage there Kim, thanks.

Message: I remember taking trampoline in P.E. class with unpleasant memories. I was supposed to attempt a back flip and it didn't go well. My neck still hurts to this day. I got off that thing and never got on it again. Another memory, at the same time, when coach Sevier had Bob Elger get on the trampoline. Bob was about 6' 10" and 310 pounds. When he started to bounce he almost touched the concrete under the trampoline. The coach excused him from the rest of the six week course. Thanks John for all you do.
Hi Ernie, I remember if someone didn't try to catch you flying off the trampoline, Coach Ron would make him run laps around the gym. If it wasn't for running laps Coach Sevier would have been a REAL unhappy guy

I was looking for pictures of my dad, as he passed away on 5/4. So, it was a real treat to find pictures from 1944 & 1945. Again, thanks. Chris
Thanks Denny for the information. I will add Chaurlle to our tributes page.

Message: First, so excited about the success of the performing arts at HHS - so sorry I missed that - I try to attend all these functions here in AZ, and my youngest graduated 2 years ago! Second, very nice to see so many from my class finally posting on Ctown. And third, uh, trampolines - yeah, I jumped when I should have waited freshman year - and failed P.E. But, when in 6th grade, Bruce Busher (sp) on Inglewood Ave. had one in his backyard - big pit in ground with trampoline over top. So fun!! (And I had such a crush on him. . .)
So.... it really wasn't about the trampoline?

Message: Was at a wedding tonite of the daughter of Lori's (my daughter) long time softball coach growing up and shared some fun time with '73 Mike Clemens and '74 Marla Allen Clemens! Mike spent many years working with the father of the bride in Lennox at the LACo Fire Station 18 and Marla was my classmate. What a wonderful surprise!! The fun part is, we haven't aged a bit. And Anthony Hughes, the check is in the mail to HHS - your attention. Can somebody please post the school address? Happy weekend everybody!

Message: What a pleasant surprise I had this evening attending the Hawthorne High School's Visual and Performing Arts program. What a turn-a-round from the last time I attended a function in the school cafeteria. We (Jody Halberg, Clark Millman and I) were thoroughly entertained. It was refreshing to see bright smiling faces as the students performed. Beginning Choir, Jazz Band, Dance, Advanced Choir, Improvisation Ensemble, Drumline (always a crowd pleaser), and the Colorguard brought smiles to our faces for an hour and a half. To top it off, they performed "Oh Scarlet and Gold" for the first time in ten years and plan to bring back the tradition and perform our Alma Mater at every event. The Choir performed a montage of songs from the Beach Boys. The Jazz Band and the Improvisation Ensemble performed real music that you could dance to. Judy, where were you, I needed a dance partner. The group looked smart with all new equipment, drums, instruments etc. I understand that Hatha Parish of the CVHSD had a lot to do with getting these educational tools for the students to use. Hats off to Ms. Parish! And hats off to Anthony Hughes, the music director for taking charge and bringing back the traditions that we alumni remembered and enjoyed. I wouldn't miss this Sunday's breakfast at the VFW if I were you as I think you may have a surprise waiting for you.
Hi Bob, Sorry, I just couldn't get away tonight but knew it would be an HHS blockbuster. So proud of our present band members, and the rest who performed. Just want to say that Anthony Hughes, the current music director, will be at the VFW this Sunday with a group of students. Please, if at all possible, make it a point to be there this Sunday.

Message: I remember having trampoline as part of PE classes at HHS during my Junior or Senior year. At first I was scared to death just thinking about bouncing on that trampoline, but after watching everyone I gave it a try and actually enjoyed it. It was set up in one of the gyms, I believe.
We did ours outside the Boy's Gym.

Message: Hi Gaylen! it's me, Suzi..sorry to hear the loss of your friend-had to look him up as name sounded familiar, I do remember him. It is really good to see your face on Cougartown, though..I smile when I think of you, 'cause you were soooo funny..we were partners in a lot of funny jokes in classes we shared..two class clowns sitting together probably wasn't good for class..but we sure shared a LOT of laughs, somehow things seem funnier especially when you're supposed to be "learning", and not laughing...Anyway, it's good to hear from you even though it is under sad circumstances. It's also nice to see some fellow "69ers" here! So, take a moment to think of some of those happy, funny times as well, from your old "comedy sidekick"!
