Message: A gathering of the 61ers.....After he retired, Royal Lord (61) & his wife Pat moved to Live Oak (NoCal). Each year they have a family Christmas dinner. For the last 4 years Ginny & I have been honored to be invited to their home. Last Saturday was the 2011 dinner. This year there was another HHS addition. Larry Smith (61) & his wife Dee (Morningside) was there also. I haven't seen Larry since the day we graduated. Had a great time talking about many of the things that have happened to us over the last 50... did I say fifty? ... years... We were actually in the same area in Viet Nam about the same time... Jimmy Peppers (61) lived across the street from me and was a cheer leader with Larry. Jimmy... Were your ears burning? We said only good things about you.. honest.

Message: Hi John, this is a message for Bob Fraser. I'm curious about your 409. What did you do to the engine? Someone told me that they took the engine down and "super" balanced it, put it back together and added a dual quad set up. This is all they needed to do. So, what did you do to yours?

Message: As best I can remember - LOL - Hawthorne never had any streets that 100% decorated for Christmas. There was a street in Lawndale (south of Rosecrans and east of the Boulevard) that decorated for several years and most of the homes had "snow" on the lawns. I also remember the Santa at Sears and later took my sons to see him. Did anyone else drive to the Broadway in the Crenshaw area on Thanksgiving night when the Christmas decorated windows were uncovered? This was before freeways and was quite a drive. I went to a lot of Rose Bowl Parades and Games and that was a terrifc way to wind up the holidays! Our small town here always has a great Christmas parade with bands, floats and lots of candy throwing to the children. That's when the Chamber of Commerce draws the five winning tickets for Christmas Bucks - $100 each. And, the town tree's lit by the Mayor. Nothing like that home town feeling! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all y'all Cougars and Cougarettes!!!

Message: I don't know if any NorCal Cougars, especially those who attended my BD party, had a chance to see the CA Hall of Fame Inductee Ceremony tonight on Comcast 104, but the Beach Boys, Mike Love, Al Jardine and David Marks were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Also, my stepson who hosted my BD party & serving in the National Guard, was on the stage (in uniform) with all the inductees. The ceremony was held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium where the Beach Boys recorded their first #1 LIVE record back in 1963. Have a great Cougar day!

Message: Not sure if this has been put up before, but it's a pretty cool quiz on '50s car knowledge. I got a dismal 76%, but most of the cars were made before I was born. I'm sure that most "early" Cougars could ace it with no problem. No spam, virus or any usual internet BS, just good clean
car fun.

Message: On behalf of the Skaff family, we would like to thank Bob and Karen Fraser for letting everyone know of the passing of our beloved Patty Cirincione (Skaff) (Class of 60) on December 1st and for posting the information about her funeral services. Patty will be dearly missed by her husband Sal, her two daughters, Emilia and Michelle, her five grandchildren and one great grandchild and by her brothers Tom (Class of 64) and Jerry (Class of 67). The Skaff family has been a part of Hawthorne since 1932 when the family moved from North Dakota. Patty and Sal were married in 1963 and have lived in the same home for 48 years. Patty was a member of the Woman's Club and regularly did volunteer work at the Hawthorne Memorial Center. Her passing came after a long battle with Diabetes which caused heart and kidney problems. She loved life and she loved everyone around her, as she was loved by all. She will be greatly missed. The family will be having visitation at McKay's South Bay Mortuary in Lawndale on Tuesday from 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 9:00 am on Wednesday, followed by a procession to Calvary Cemetery in Whittier and returning to VFW Hall on 131st Street in Hawthorne for a luncheon in her honor. Patty loved her family and she loved her life, she loved Hawthorne and she loved being a Hawthorne Cougar.

Message: Merry Christmas to All Cougars. It's been a long quiet spell since I checked in at Cougartown. In this season of Giving Thanks & celebrating Christmas, I see lots of posts about long ago past memories of days gone by. I'd like to include a focus on the Christmas "present". A family friend & local childhood neighbor from Lennox High, Paul Aziz is presenting his own version of Christmas on his front yard in Lebanon Oregon, this season. Paul has electrified his Home with over 35,000 computer controlled Christmas Lights, all synchronized to the music he broadcasts on a low power Fm transmitter for those who drive by his house. Take a close look at
his web site Please enjoy the assortment of videos he has there. And while you all are remembering stuff, don't forget to remember the Birth of Christ Jesus.

Message: It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of the passing of Treva Weyer Colwell. My name is Norm Weyer and I am Trevas’ brother. The hospital contacted me around 1:30 AM on 12/02/11 to advise me of the situation. Apparently she contacted the paramedics shortly after 11:00 PM on the 1st and when they arrived she told them that she had been having trouble breathing all day. While the paramedics were there, she went into cardiac arrest. They were able to revive her, and then took her to the hospital where she again went into cardiac arrest from which she did not recover. She is survived by her son, 2 grandchildren and myself. Services, if any, are pending. Should additional information become available, I will advise by email.
