Message: I drove my car to Good neighbors day yesterday and enjoyed talking with a few old friends and met some new ones. I walked around the campus and noticed a few changes, the new cafeteria, no senior square, no high dive pool and the girls locker room is being renovated. Other than that everything seems to be the same. While I was sitting next to my car at the car cruise, three current students noticed my moth eaten lettermans jacket that was in the car. They were excited to see it, one of the guys said to the others, "Dude look at that lettermans jacket, it's prehistoric" It kind of brings things into perspective, just when you're thinking of the memories that seem to have occurred a short time ago, someone is around to remind you that we're dinosaurs. Then again think about how valuable fossils are!
Hey Steve, thanks for the story and for coming out to the Good Neighbors Day event.

Message: Good morning Cougars, Sure was fun at the concert last night! I saw Karen and her Honey, Bob, John Baker, met a girl named Maria (she had a lei on her leg-got the surf spirit) from Torrance who fell for a Haw. Cougar Carl Johnson, saw Chevy John and wife sittin in the grass whom I waved Hi to a few times, he seemed puzzled but I remembered him from Fosters and loved their car and truely this is the city of "Good Neighbors! Lotsa fun people like Judy, She's got Personality and I really love reading what she says on Cougartown. This girl by me who couldn't sit still asked me to please dance with her and it was like, oh yea, break my arm. She knew all the old dances, COOL and so we thought we were rockettes, not only hearing the great music but feeling it too! Good exercise, right?. Saw Bob Dylan the night before at OC ampi-theatre which was very nice, he's still Rockin good at 70 yrs. old and so are us Cougars! It was soo nice moving once again on Cougar grounds, Halcap field and I do remember those many laps we did at PE!!! This is a warm up for seeing many more Cougars at Aug. reunion. I'm so excited!! Love and the Best to all our Cougars. Life is sweet so make your day Beautiful!!!!! Cathie
Hey Cathie, great seeing you there last night along with many other Cougars. A rockin' good time on good ol' Halcap, for sure. Thanks very much to David and Carrie Marks, and the Legends of Surf music along with Al Jardine's son, Matt for putting on the best 20 buck surf show I've seen since the 70s.

Message: It's after 2 and we just got back from the Good Neighbors Day Fair. We had such a nice time. So nice to see so many friends. We meet and spoke to HHS Robotec Students, and Da Vincie High Students. Nice group of young Kids. We met this young Football player, by the name of Michael Davis, Defense Captain for HHS. He was going around and introducted himself and Thanking People for all the support in helping out with their athletic department. Such a pleasant young man. We all need to keep an eye on him, think this young man is going places. We hope so. He was impressed with Cougartown and wanted to meet John Baker. The cars were fun to look back in time, some really brought back memories. Larry was having a great time talking, he saw Jan and Judy and it had been awhile since we had seen them, it was good talking to them. Eric was at the Da Vinci booth and one of the adults who works for the school, turned out to be a friend he had not seen in years. He was having a nice conversation with the students, very knowledgable, he found them very interesting talking with them. It was a fun day for all of us and on the way out all those pictures of old Hawthorne gave a good up on the old Hawthorne. Always a Coug!! Those who are going to the concert tonight have a great time.....
Thanks Loretta and yes I talked with Mike Davis and was very impressed. He wanted to thank all the Alumni for their help in donating to the team. He's also getting a great workout on the blocking sled that was funded by our Cougars. Another one I talked with was a robotics student named Jonathan. He was talking about the bad rap Hawthorne High gets and wants everyone to know the Robotics team at Hawthorne is one of the top teams in the country. You cannot believe these robots they build. Maybe we'll just have to have a Cougartown Robotics show and see. These kids are teaching the DaVinci students robotics. Anyway, I've come home, fed the dog, and now it's time to go back for the concert. If anyone wants to see David Marks along with the Legends of Surf Music, tickets will be sold at the gate and the concert starts at 7pm. There will be grass seating too, right in front of the stage so bring your lawn chairs, walk through campus to Halcap and you are there.

Message: So, tomorrow we shlep to HHS again. Janny is leaving very early in the morning.. said something about wanting to be the first in line at the cafeteria's side window to get a tamale and chili. Why is it that we've never had chili like that again after high school. Then top it off with a coconut cream pie. I gave him 2 bucks as that's all it cost in the early 60's. I never ate once in the cafeteria when I was a Freshman because I knew the scags were waiting for me somewhere to initiate me.. (don't forget I was a stupid Catholic school girl) I just knew they would smear lipstick all over my face and maybe cut my hair in the restroom.. I wouldn't mind all that attention at all now.. I think beauty spas charge for it. See you there Sidney.
Judy, Now how could we forget that. It is now 4:30am, I'm ready and I'll meet Janny in the snack bar line.

I remember riding our bikes on the 405 when it was under construction! Have a great time ya all, will be far away from everything! But if anyone is coming down from the north be forwarned!! the 405 will be closed between the 101 and the 10 from friday night until Sunday. Enjoy!

The Valley people will have a problem but the OC gang can get here, I'm sure. It will be shut down from the 101 to the 10, basically the Sepulveda pass. It really keeps the "in the area" people at home so there's no excuse to not join us for Good Neighbors Day.

Message: Just a reminder for Good Neighbors Day on Saturday we'll be there with the Haw VFW booth and on Sunday is the VFW breakfast from 9 - 11:30. Haven't seen Jan in days. He claims he's been busy tearing down the firework stand and putting up the Good Neighbors booth and making sausage gravy for the breakfast. I say it's time to take his credit card to the house of exfoliation/mud bath and beauty spa. I'm officially a Haw widow. If I want to see my husband I have to show up at what ever he works.
I saw Janny at Nathans with a big nasty redhead named Rhonda World (could have been her working name). He said something about fireworks all right but I wasn't really listening.

Message: Since it's all Sharon all the time I guess I better get started writing. I stopped in at HHS today to drop off some treaures for the Boosters club-they are planning a silent auction fundraiser during Good Neighbors Day on Saturday. I am very grateful to Maryann Dowell and Wade Greasby who helped pull together silent auction items: player cards autographed by Mike Scott and Mike Colbern (73) who both played professional baseball. Also included is a selection of inaugural season baseballs from the Arizona Diamondbacks, generously donated by Mike Colbern, and some other items that will help raise money for the team. I was so pleased to see Principal Mark Newell, and to meet Coach Kanach (a handsome young man!) who told me they won their first competition this weekend at a passing conference. So the team is off to a good start! I hope there is a great turnout for the event, and be sure to bring your checkbooks so you can take home a little piece of HHS and MLB history, thanks to the two Mikes. Okay you other Sharons, you can take it from here.
Hey Slats, Thanks very much for the help. I wish I had known you were going to be there. I was there too, but probably later than you. 6pm
